Castle Lime Works Quarry is a 1.6 hectare (3.9 acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest near South Mimms in Hertfordshire. The site was notified in 1986 under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. The site is a disused chalk quarry and according to Natural England: This reveals extensive piping in the top of the chalk resulting from solution at the Chalk - Tertiary sediment interface. Believed to have formed during the Tertiary and Pleistocene, it is the finest exposure of clay-filled pipes in the Chalk Karst of England.The site is on private land and there is no public access.

The Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA) is a teaching hospital located near Potters Bar, Hertfordshire. More than 100 veterinary nurses work alongside students, residents, interns, and specialty surgeons.In 2008 the Royal Veterinary College completed the third phase of development of the QMHA. This development supports the continued expansion of both secondary and tertiary medical and surgical services for small animals, built around support services such as Emergency and Critical Care, Anaesthesia and Diagnostic Imaging. It first opened in 1986.There is also a strategic focus on the development of first opinion small animal services at the Beaumont Animals’ Hospital, serving the Kings Cross, London area.

Furzefield Wood and Lower Halfpenny is a 7.4 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Potters Bar in Hertfordshire. It is owned and managed by Hertsmere Borough Council.The site is part of a parcel of land purchased in 1935 by Potters Bar Urban District Council. The southern area became the King George V Playing Fields, which are used for recreation, while the wood and meadow are managed for wildlife. Furze is an ancient name for gorse, and the wood has been managed for coppicing for over 300 years. It now provides a habitat for birds, and fallen branches are important for invertebrates. Lower Halfpenny Bottom is a meadow which was once the route of an old drovers' track.There is access from Cranbourne Avenue.

Mimmshall Brook is a 9.8 kilometres (6.1 mi) long stream (brook) in Greater London and Hertfordshire, England. Rising from two sources—one in Hertsmere, Hertfordshire, and the other in Arkley, London Borough of Barnet—the brook drains into a catchment area of 52 km² (20 sq mi) at Water End Swallow Holes, Welham Green, North Mymms. It is a tributary of the River Colne.

Water End Swallow Holes is a biological site of Special Scientific Interest in Hertfordshire, south-east England. Located in Welham Green and under the planning authority of Welwyn Hatfield District Council, it has an area of 11.3 hectares (27.9 acres).The site covers more than fifteen swallet holes, the only ones in chalk which are a permanent feature of the landscape. Next to the holes is a swamp area of willow carr which is biologically important, and in deep water there is reed sweet-grass. The site also has areas of woodland and grassland. From the sinkholes the waters become the River Colne. There is access to the site from Station Road.

The Black Horse is a Grade II listed public house at 65 Blackhorse Lane in South Mimms, Hertfordshire, England. It can be dated to the early 17th century -as early as 1642- and is of red brick with a tiled roof. It has been kept in its original style, with traditional decor and original bay windows. The building was registered in 1650 alongside the blacksmith building nearby, which can still be seen in disarray among the trees on the north-eastern side. Blackhorse Lane, which may be named after the pub, is the lane along which South Mimms developed. Due to its location the Black Horse has been a popular destination to Premier league football players over the years as the training grounds of two London teams are within a short distance. The current owner takes pride in keeping the building in its old style and wishes to preserve it to future generations. The Black Horse is also a popular destination to local population and customers from some distance - for drinks and good quality mostly locally sourced food. Aside from the homes along blackhorse lane and nearby village Brookside, the building is surrounded by acres of woodland, neighboring Hatfield House. The surrounding area was and remains rural. It is said that the Black Horse pub is connected to a series of tunnels as far as St Albans. The location is often sought after for productions such as advertisements and shows in need of a traditional english pub.

It is part of the Dame Alice Owen's Foundation; its trustees are the Worshipful Company of Brewers. It was founded in Islington as a boys' school for 30 students in 1613, which makes it one of the oldest schools in the United Kingdom, and is named after its founder, the 17th-century philanthropist Alice Owen. Over time, the boys' school expanded. A girls' school was built in 1886, and the two schools were merged in 1973; the mixed school moved to its current location at Dugdale Hill Lane in Potters Bar in stages between 1973 and 1976. The school is one of the highest performing state schools in England and Wales in terms of the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) and GCE Advanced Level (A-Level) results, and is widely considered one of the best schools in the UK. South Mimms services is a motorway service area accessible from Junction 23 of the M25 motorway which is also Junction 1 of the A1(M), in England near South Mimms, Hertfordshire. Constructed in 1986 as the first service area on the M25, it is operated by Welcome Break. It is built on the site of Bignell's Corner, named after a garden centre, Bignell and Cutbush, which was close to the junction of the old A6, and A1. At the junction there was also a pub, the Middlesex Arms, and an Esso Motor hotel, near which developed a notorious truck stop and the Beacon Cafe.
