Bottomcraig is a village in Fife, Scotland located near Balmerino and The Gauldry. The village is home to Balmerino Parish Church, built in 1811, and the former manse built in 1816. A school was built in the village in 1776 though in 1830 the parish school relocated to Gauldry where it has remained since.

Balmerino Abbey, or St Edward's Abbey, in Balmerino, Fife, Scotland, was a Cistercian monastic community which has been ruinous since the 16th century.

Balmerino is a small village and former monastic centre in Fife, Scotland. It is the home of Balmerino Abbey and the former abbots of Balmerino who were great regional landlords. It became a secular lordship in 1605 when the abbey's lands were transferred into a Barony and the title of Lord Balmerino was created. The already fire-damaged abbey was allowed to fall into ruin as it no longer had a function. The Abbey ruins and grounds are managed by the National Trust for Scotland and are famed for the ancient sweet chestnut tree and the display of aconites which flower in February. The village contains a number of 18th and 19th century houses in a local vernacular and is now an official Conservation Area. The name Balmerino derives from Scottish Gaelic. The first element, bal-, is from baile, meaning a farmstead, or in modern Gaelic, a town. The second element is more obscure. It may refer to Saint Merinach or it may derive from muranach meaning 'of sea-grass', yielding: "[the] farm where sea-bent or sea-grass grows."Balmerino Parish Church lies 1 km outside the village and dates from 1811. The manse was added in 1816. Originally a simple Georgian box chapel the church was remodelled in the Gothic style in 1883. The church hall was added in 1887.Balmerino is "celebrated" in the poem "Beautiful Balmerino" by William McGonagall – widely recognised to be the English language's worst poet.

Kilmany railway station served the village of Kilmany, Fife, Scotland from 1909 to 1951 on the Newburgh and North Fife Railway.

Kilmany (Scottish Gaelic: Cille Mheinidh) is a village and parish in Fife, Scotland. It is located on the A92 between Auchtermuchty and the Tay Road Bridge. In 2001 it had a population of 75.The current name of the village derives from an older Scottish Gaelic name, but the meaning of that name is somewhat obscure. The first element, 'Kil', is from the Gaelic cill meaning a chapel or a monk's cell. The last element was -in, an old Gaelic suffix meaning 'the place of'. The middle element was an early saint's name, but which saint is not clear. St Maine, St Manna, and St Mannán have all been suggested. Taken together, the old Gaelic name would have meant 'The Site of the Church of Maine, Manna, or Mannán'.It is notable for being the birthplace of Jim Clark, former world champion Formula One racing-car driver. There is a statue of Clark in the village, unveiled in 1997 by Sir Jackie Stewart.It was also the home of William Anstruther-Gray, Baron Kilmany who served as Chairman of Ways and Means in the House of Commons from 1962 to 1964 and later sat in the House of Lords after being made a life peer in 1966.Between 1909 and 1960, Kilmany had its own railway station on the Newburgh and North Fife Railway.The civil parish had a population of 218 in 2011.

The Firth of Tay (; Scottish Gaelic: Linne Tatha) is a firth on the east coast of Scotland, into which empties the River Tay (Scotland's largest river in terms of flow). The firth is surrounded by four council areas: Fife, Perth and Kinross, Dundee City, and Angus. Its maximum width (at Invergowrie) is 3 mi (4.8 km). Two bridges span the firth: the Tay Road Bridge and the Tay Rail Bridge. The marshy Mugdrum Island is the only major island in the firth.The Firth of Tay in Antarctica was discovered in 1892–93 by Captain Thomas Robertson of the Dundee whaling expedition and named by him after the one in Scotland. He also named nearby Dundee Island in honour of the main city on the firth.

Kilmany Parish Church is an ancient church building in Kilmany, Fife, Scotland. Dating to 1768, it is Category A listed.The church's pulpit was re-seated in 1859 by Jack of Rathillet and repaired with advice from David Rhind over the next two years.

Dundee Airport (Scottish Gaelic: Port-adhair Dhùn Dè) (IATA: DND, ICAO: EGPN) is located 3 km (1.9 mi) from the centre of Dundee, Scotland or, for navigation purposes, 0.5 NM (0.93 km; 0.58 mi) south of the city. It lies on the shore of the Firth of Tay and overlooks the Tay Rail Bridge. It is a popular transport hub for golf players, as it is the closest airport to the championship courses at St Andrews, Gleneagles and Carnoustie. During international competitions, the airport is often at its busiest with charter and private aircraft. There are also flights operated by Loganair.

Ninewells railway station served the area of Ninewells, Dundee, Scotland from 1864 to 1865 on the Dundee and Perth Railway.

The Tay Bridge (Scottish Gaelic: Drochaid-rèile na Tatha) carries the railway across the Firth of Tay in Scotland between Dundee and the suburb of Wormit in Fife. Its span is 2.75 miles (4.43 kilometres). It is the second bridge to occupy the site. Plans for a bridge over the Tay to replace the train ferry service emerged in 1854, but the first Tay Bridge did not open until 1878. It was a lightweight lattice design of relatively low cost with a single track. On 28 December 1879, the bridge suddenly collapsed in high winds while a train was crossing, killing everybody on board. The incident is one of the worst bridge-related engineering disasters in history. An enquiry determined that the bridge was insufficiently engineered to cope with high winds. It was replaced by a second bridge constructed of iron and steel, with a double track, parallel to the remains of the first bridge. Work commenced on 6 July 1883 and the bridge opened in 1887. The new bridge was subject to extensive testing by the Board of Trade, which resulted in a favourable report. In 2003, the bridge was strengthened and refurbished, winning a British Construction Industry Engineering Award to mark the scale and difficulty of the project.

The Tay Bridge disaster occurred during a violent storm on Sunday 28 December 1879, when the first Tay Rail Bridge collapsed as a North British Railway (NBR) passenger train on the Edinburgh to Aberdeen Line from Burntisland bound for its final destination of Dundee passed over it, killing everybody on board. The bridge—designed by Sir Thomas Bouch—used lattice girders supported by iron piers, with cast iron columns and wrought iron cross-bracing. The piers were narrower and their cross-bracing was less extensive and robust than on previous similar designs by Bouch. Bouch had sought expert advice on wind loading when designing a proposed rail bridge over the Firth of Forth; as a result of that advice he had made no explicit allowance for wind loading in the design of the Tay Bridge. There were other flaws in detailed design, in maintenance, and in quality control of castings, all of which were, at least in part, Bouch's responsibility. Bouch died less than a year after the disaster, his reputation ruined. Future British bridge designs had to allow for wind loadings of up to 56 pounds per square foot (2.7 kilopascals). Bouch's design for the Forth Bridge was not used. To date, it is the fifth worst railway accident in the history of the United Kingdom.
