Taroona Beach, Tasmania

Taroona is a major residential suburb approximately 15 minutes drive from the centre of Hobart, Tasmania on the scenic route between Hobart and Kingston. Although on the edges of the City of Hobart, Taroona is actually part of the municipality of Kingborough. Taroona is bounded on the east by the Derwent River, and has several beaches along the shore, the main beaches with public access are Taroona Beach, Hinsby Beach and Dixons Beach. Past Hinsby Beach, the Alum Cliffs form a section of cliffed coast to the neighbouring suburb of Bonnet Hill.

Hinsby Beach is a beach along the River Derwent in the Hobart suburb of Taroona, Australia. The south facing beach looks directly out to Storm Bay and the Tasman Sea, with views of the Derwent estuary, the Alum Cliffs, Taroona Shot Tower, the City of Clarence on the eastern shore and Opossum Bay, South Arm. Hinsby Beach is situated between the Alum Cliffs and Taroona Beach. A naturally secluded section of the beach, beyond the rocky south-western outcrop is a zoned naturist beach.

Taroona High School is a government co-educational comprehensive junior secondary school located in Taroona, a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1958, the school caters for approximately 1,100 students from Years 7 to 10. The school is administered by the Tasmanian Department of Education. In 2019 student enrollments were 1,110. The acting school principal is Susan Flinn. The school is planning to expand into years 11 and 12 with limited courses starting in the 2022 school year at the University of Tasmania campus.The school's most notable former student is Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark.

The Alum Cliffs are a section of cliffed coast facing the Derwent Estuary and Storm Bay along the suburbs of Taroona, Bonnet Hill, and Kingston Beach, Tasmania, Australia. Composed of Permian mudstone, the cliff formation stretches for 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) between Hinsby Beach and Tyndall Beach at Kingston Beach. The cliff face reaches heights of up to 30 metres (98 ft) above sea level and has vistas of the Derwent Estuary, Storm Bay, South Arm and Bruny Island.

The Shot Tower at Taroona is a heritage listed historic building between Hobart and Kingston, Tasmania. It was the tallest building in Australia for four years (1870-1875), and the tallest structure in Tasmania until it was superseded by the Mount Wellington broadcast tower in 1960. The Taroona Shot Tower is believed to be the tallest circular sandstone tower in the world.

Bonnet Hill is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Kingborough in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) east of the town of Kingston. The 2016 census recorded a population of 505 for the state suburb of Bonnet Hill.It is also a massive hill of the greater Hobart area. The suburb, on the hill of the same name, overlooks Kingston. Bonnet Hill is a popular cycling route. Located on it is the famous Shot Tower. The sides of the hill are riddled with small paths mostly leading to the nearby Kingston Beach. The Alum Cliffs along Bonnet Hill's cliffed coast reach heights of up to 30 metres (98 ft) above sea level and have vistas facing the Derwent Estuary, Storm Bay, South Arm and Bruny Island.

Fahan School is an independent school for girls located in Sandy Bay, a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It is a non-denominational school with a Christian ethos. The School was established in 1935 by Isobel Travers and Audrey Morphett. The School was named after the village of Fahan (pronounced 'Fawn') in Inishowen in County Donegal in Ulster, Ireland. The School has a non-selective enrolment policy and currently caters for approximately 430 students from Pre–Kindergarten (PK) to Year 12,Fahan School is a member of the Junior School Heads Association of Australia (JSHAA), the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA), and the Association of Independent Schools' of Tasmania (AIST).

Mount Saint Canice was a Roman Catholic former convent that was located in Sandy Bay, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia and run by the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, commonly called the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, from 1893 to 1974. In 1893, the sisters began to take in young women who were perceived to have fallen short of the morals and values of the times. The Mount Saint Canice convent was to become known as The Magdalene Laundry and was one of ten such laundries in operation throughout Australia. They were based on existing Magdalene laundries in Ireland. "The Magdalene Laundries were workhouses in which many Irish women and girls were effectively imprisoned because they were perceived to be a threat to the moral fiber of society."The convent closed after eight novices were killed in an explosion in 1974; and the building is used as an aged care retirement home.

Long Beach is a popular beach destination along the River Derwent in Sandy Bay, Hobart, Tasmania. The east facing beach has views of the City of Clarence on the eastern shore and Blinking Billy Point. Long Beach neighbours Nutgrove Beach and is within close proximity to the Long Beach Reserve Playground, Sandy Bay Sailing Club, Sandy Bay Regatta Association, Hobart Pétanque Club and Lower Sandy Bay shops. Long Beach has a sea pontoon for swimmers and bathroom facilities.

Kingston Beach is a residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Kingborough in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) south-east of the town of Kingston. The 2016 census recorded a population of 1990 for the state suburb of Kingston Beach.It is a suburb of the greater Hobart area. It is located on the Derwent River at the mouth of Browns Rivulet. It was originally known as Browns River Beach in the 1850s. Kingston Beach was a regularly photographed location in the twentieth century.The beach is patrolled by Kingston Beach Surf Life Saving Club between the months of December and April. Other facilities include a dog beach, bike park, barbecue area, sailing club, playgrounds and various shops. The local Progress Association served between 1925 and 1992, known as either the Kingston Beach Progress Association, Kingston Beach Regatta Association, or the Kingston Beach Progress and Regatta Association.

Mount Nelson is a suburb of the city of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia above the Hobart suburb of Sandy Bay and to the south of Hobart's CBD. Because of its views over the River Derwent (Tasmania), it is one of the more prestigious suburbs in Hobart. The main road in Mount Nelson is Nelson Road, which extends up the mountain from the Wrest Point Hotel Casino into the Sandy Bay suburb. It is known for its "bends", which consist of seven very sharp corners created as the road winds its way up the mountain. Nelson Road was constructed in 1908 to provide better access to the Mount Nelson signal station.
