Hobart College is a government comprehensive senior secondary school located in Mount Nelson, a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1913 as Hobart High School, it was later renamed as Hobart Matriculation College in 1965, and subsequently renamed as Hobart College. The college caters for approximately 1,000 students in Years 11 and 12 and is administered by the Tasmanian Department of Education.In 2019 student enrolments were 1,086. The college principal is Tracy Siedler. As of 2018, the college had educated twenty students who progressed to being awarded a Rhodes Scholarship.

St. John Fisher College, known simply as John Fisher College and familiarly referred to as 'Fisher', is a residential college of the University of Tasmania. It was established in 1963 by then-Archbishop of Hobart Sir Guilford Young and built by the Catholic Church and its community. The building was designed by notable Tasmanian architect Rod Cooper. The college was named after 16th century scholar St John Fisher and provides accommodation for around 110 students. It is located in Upper Sandy Bay, Tasmania, Australia, on campus at the University of Tasmania.It is the smallest of the three residential colleges at the University of Tasmania in Hobart. The college was originally all-male, but became co-residential in 1980 when it amalgamated with Ena Waite College. Ena Waite was an all-female residential college staffed by the Dominican and Loreto sisters, and operated from 1968 to 1980. It was located at Currievale House at 63 Goulburn Street, West Hobart. The building was subsequently sold, and residents moved to John Fisher College. In 1999, ownership of John Fisher College was transferred from the Catholic Church to the University of Tasmania.

Tolmans Hill is a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. It is likely to be the last large scale greenfield suburban development to take place within Hobart city. At the 2011 Australian Census the suburb recorded a population of 568.The suburb is named after John Gibbs Tolman, a Hobart businessman, who purchased the whole area for just £650 in 1889.Tolmans Hill was used for grazing up to the 1980s. In 1991, Hobart City Council approved a subdivision to 415 lots, which acknowledged the need to preserve its bushland character. There was much controversy when the Tolmans Hill development was first announced as planning permits were not widely made available to the public. The development involved the removal of most of the non-native vegetation, such as Gorse and Cotoneaster whilst trying to retain as much as possible of the endemic vegetation that covered Tolmans Hill. This was a difficult task given during the early years of Hobart Town the hill was deforested on a regular basis. Then in later years large deliberately lit fires occurred every two to three years. The developers created the Tolmans Hill Local Area Plan as part of its original application to the Hobart City Council. Many restrictions have been placed on land owners regarding re-vegetation, site disturbance, and visual impact. One condition contained in the stringent Tolmans Hill plan is that in certain parts of the suburb, trees cannot be removed without an amendment to the development permit. This requires an application to the council and a payment for an arborist's report. As the Hill features prominently upon the skyline of Hobart, a major impact has been seen by many residents of Greater Hobart, however due to the re-vegetation requirements placed on home builders this impact is being reduced over the years. After the development was allowed to proceed, a movement to protect the Hobart skyline was initiated, as demonstrated in DPIWE (Urban Skylines and Hillfaces Committee), 2000, Planning Guidelines: Urban Skylines and Hillfaces ). Much of the land that is now bounded by bushland upon the hills of Hobart has very heavy building restrictions in place, as a result of the Tolmans Hill project and the influence of the plan on urban planners. It is claimed that this development has set a new progressive and environmentally sensitive benchmark in Tasmania for other developers.

Christ College is the oldest tertiary institution in Australia and is a residential college of the University of Tasmania.The college is located on the University's grounds in Sandy Bay. The college, familiarly referred to as "Christ", is the largest of the three Sandy Bay residential colleges, with a residential community consisting of approximately 285 undergraduate and postgraduate residents, a significant number of whom are international students from Asia, Europe and the Americas.

The College of Health and Medicine is a college of the University of Tasmania that incorporates the School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, Wicking Centre and Menzies Institute for Medical Research. The College incorporates medicine, pharmacy, psychology, paramedicine, nursing, laboratory medicine, allied health sciences and rural health into its curricula and research.

The college incorporates science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and research at the University.

The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is a public research university, primarily located in Tasmania, Australia. Founded in 1890, it is Australia's fourth oldest university. Christ College, one of the university's residential colleges, first proposed in 1840 in Lieutenant-Governor Sir John Franklin's Legislative Council, was modeled on the Oxford and Cambridge colleges, and was founded in 1846, making it the oldest tertiary institution in the country. The university is a sandstone university, a member of the international Association of Commonwealth Universities, and the Association of Southeast Asian Institutions of Higher Learning.The university offers various undergraduate and graduate programs in a range of disciplines, and has links with 20 specialist research institutes and co-operative research centres. The Hutchins School is an Anglican, day and boarding school for boys from pre-kindergarten to Year 12 in Hobart, Tasmania. Established in 1846, Hutchins is one of the oldest continually operating schools in Australia. The school's students consistently rank among the highest academic achievers in Tasmania and nationally; it has had 24 Rhodes Scholars. The school is located just under four kilometres from the CBD of Hobart, The Hutchins School offers facilities including classrooms, science and computer laboratories, libraries, a performing arts centre, a recording studio and multiple sporting grounds. International students reside in the school's boarding facility, ‘Burbury House’, which in 2012 underwent a full refit and refurbishment. Hutchins is a founding-member of the International Boys' Schools Coalition (IBSC), and a member of Independent Schools Tasmania (IST). The Hutchins School is one out of two boy's schools in Tasmania.

Edge Radio (call sign: 7EDG) is a community radio station situated in the Australian city of Hobart. It is a youth oriented station, with most of its presenters under the age of thirty. Edge Radio focuses on local music, running a Tasmanian music show weekly. The studio is located in the University of Tasmania's Hobart campus.

The Tasmanian University Student Association (TUSA) was formerly known as Tasmania University Union (TUU), is the peak body of student representation for tertiary students attending the University of Tasmania and was established in 1899.The Student Association is a student-led collective that is dedicated to two core principles: student leadership, and the student community.

Queenborough Oval is the home headquarters of the Hutchins Old Boys Football Club and the South Hobart/Sandy Bay Cricket Club. The ground is a former Tasmanian Football League venue, being the former home of the Sandy Bay Football Club (now defunct) from 1945 to 1997. After the demise of Sandy Bay in 1997, Hutchins moved to the ground during the 1998 season after vacating their former home ground of 43 years (Hutchins War Memorial Oval) just up the street from Queenborough. It is located on the corner of Nelson Road and Peel Street Sandy Bay, 5 km (3.1 mi) south of the Hobart CBD.
