Woolhampton Reed Bed

Woolhampton is a village and civil parish in West Berkshire, England. The village straddles the Bath Road between the towns of Reading, 8 mi (13 km) to the east, and Newbury, 6 mi (10 km) to the west.

Midgham railway station, formerly known as Woolhampton railway station, is a railway station in the English county of Berkshire. It is located in the village of Woolhampton, but takes its current name from the village of Midgham that lies some 2 miles (3.2 km) away. The station is on the Reading to Taunton railway line and is 46 miles 59 chains (46.74 miles, 75.22 km) from London Paddington.

Upper Woolhampton is a village in the English county of Berkshire. It is situated on higher ground, 0.5 miles (800 m) to the north of the parent village of Woolhampton. Both the Grade II listed parish church of St Peter and the village school are located in Upper Woolhampton. Also in the village is the Grade II* listed Woolhampton House, now occupied by Elstree School, a preparatory school that relocated to Woolhampton from Elstree during the Second World War. The Benedictine Douai Abbey community, and its now-closed Douai School is located a further 0.5 miles (800 m) to the north. Upper Woolhampton is part of the civil parish of Woolhampton, and lies in the West Berkshire unitary authority district and the Newbury parliamentary constituency.

Elstree School is an English preparatory school for children aged 3–13 at Woolhampton House in Woolhampton, near Newbury in the English county of Berkshire. The school is co-educational.

Woolhampton Lock is a lock on the Kennet and Avon Canal, in the village of Woolhampton in the English county of Berkshire. The lock has a rise/fall of 8 feet 11 inches (2.72 m) and is administered by the Canal and River Trust. Woolhampton Lock lies on the stretch of the canal that was originally built between 1718 and 1723, under the supervision of the engineer John Hore of Newbury, as the Kennet Navigation. This navigation is an improved river navigation rather than a true canal, and consists of sections of the natural riverbed of the River Kennet alternating with artificially created lock cuts and locks.Woolhampton Lock is at the downstream end of an artificial lock cut, and the river and lock cut rejoin at the foot of the lock. Just to the east and downstream of this, the navigable river is crossed by a swing bridge carrying the road from the centre of Woolhampton village to the nearby village of Brimpton. Craft are warned to enter or leave the lock and pass under the open bridge in a single movement, since the current from the incoming river tends to push boats off course and there is nowhere to moor between the lock and bridge. Adjacent to this bridge is the Row Barge public house.

Brimpton (Wasing Lower Farm) Airfield is an unlicensed single-runway civilian airfield in the south-east of West Berkshire, United Kingdom.

Douai Abbey is a Benedictine Abbey at Upper Woolhampton, near Thatcham, in the English county of Berkshire, situated within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth. Monks from the monastery of St. Edmund's, in Douai, France, came to Woolhampton in 1903 when the community left France as a result of anti-clerical legislation. The abbey church is listed Grade II* on the National Heritage List for England.

The River Enborne is a river that rises near the villages of Inkpen and West Woodhay, to the West of Newbury, Berkshire and flows into the River Kennet. Its source is in the county of Berkshire, and part of its course forms the border between Berkshire and Hampshire. Despite the name, the river does not run through the village of Enborne, although it does run through Enborne Row.

Midgham Green is a hamlet in the civil parish of Midgham in the English county of Berkshire. The settlement lies near to the A4 road and is located approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Thatcham.

Heale's Lock is a lock on the Kennet and Avon Canal, between Thatcham and Woolhampton, Berkshire, England. Heale's Lock was built between 1718 and 1723 under the supervision of the engineer John Hore of Newbury. The canal is administered by the Canal & River Trust. The lock has a rise/fall of 8 ft 11 in (2.72 m)., and was originally a turf lock, being rebuilt as a conventional lock in the late 1980s.

Old Copse, Beenham is an 8-hectare (20-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Beenham in Berkshire. The site is private land with no public access.

Brimpton Pit is a 1.6-hectare (4.0-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Aldermaston in Berkshire. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.This former gravel pit contains fossil molluscs and pollen which were laid down during a warm phase 80,000 years ago which was first recognised at this site, and is called the Brimpton Interstadial (Marine Isotope Stage 5a). The pit is also important for helping to understand the development of the River Thames and its tributaries.A footpath runs along the side of this site, but no geology is visible. The western half is part of a field and the eastern half is a dip in an area of wood and scrub.
