New Lynn to Avondale shared path

St George's Street railway station was a train station in Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand. It was on the Western Line and was adjacent to the St George's Road level crossing. Note the difference in the name of the station versus the road on which it was located. The station was opened in November 1907. It was between New Lynn station and Avondale station. It closed at the same time as the Croydon Road and Westbrook stations, also on the Western Line, on a six-month trial basis on 18 August 1980, with the closure being made permanent on 16 August 1981. No trace of this station or its side platform remains today.

Paradice Avondale is an ice sports and public skate centre, opened in May 1981 as an indoor ice rink and entertainment centre. It is located in the New Zealand city of Auckland, in the western-suburbs, at Avondale. It is the current home venue of the West Auckland Admirals in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League (NZIHL) and Auckland Steel in the New Zealand Women's Ice Hockey League (NZWIHL). It is also used as one of two home venues of the Auckland Mako in the NZIHL. The arena is the oldest and largest operational ice sports centre in Auckland.

The Hollywood Cinema, also known as the Hollywood or the Hollywood Avondale, is a cinema and performing arts theatre in the suburb of Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand. Under different names and management, the business and the building evolved from the council-administrated Avondale Public Hall built in 1867. Following a name change and installation of a new frontage in 1915, the Hall was leased to Harry Empson, who showed movies in the venue from 1916 to August 1927 when he sold the business to Frederick William. In 1923 the original building was moved to the adjacent lot and a new venue constructed behind the frontage. Notwithstanding the challenges of providing talkie movies and competing cinemas in neighbouring suburbs, a succession of managers, including the family of Rudall Hayward, ran the picture theatre until 1966 when the business was acquired by Jan Grefstad, who named it the Hollywood Cinema. During Grefstad's time, the Hollywood was known for the weekly midnight showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and the installation of a Wurlitzer Organ. After Grefstad died in 2001, the business was managed by a family trust before being sold on the open market in 2015. As of 2023 it continues to host classic, cult, revival and marathon screenings as well as selected concerts and events.

Avondale ( AV-ən-dayl) (Māori: Te Whau) is a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. Located on the central western Auckland isthmus. It is located in the Whau local board area, one of the 21 administrative divisions for the Auckland Council.

Glenavon School is located in Auckland, New Zealand. Glenavon school offers education from pre-school (kindergarten) through to Year 8. A special school is also on the campus.

Avondale railway station is on the Western Line of the Auckland railway network. Relocated in 2008, the station can be accessed from St Jude St, Layard St, and Crayford St. The proposed Avondale–Southdown Line would connect to the Western Line just east of the station.

Avondale Racecourse is a horse racing venue in Avondale, Auckland, New Zealand. First established in 1888, the racecourse has been used as a military training facility and as a temporary hospital. Currently the racecourse is used as a venue for the Avondale Jockey Club, sports fields for rugby union, rugby league, soccer and cricket, as a location of the Avondale Sunday Markets.

The Daktory was a warehouse catering for the sale and consumption of cannabis in New Lynn, West Auckland, New Zealand. The Daktory operated in open defiance of New Zealand drug legislation prohibiting the cultivation, possession, sale and consumption of cannabis; its founder Dakta Green was jailed for 23 months for the operation of the warehouse. Members were called 'Daktas' and are registered under a pseudonym of their choice. They paid a monthly fee to join which allowed them access to The Daktory or they paid a $5 general entry charge. Patrons had to be 18 years of age or older. Once inside, members would openly smoke cannabis using any of the many paraphernalia provided. At various times cannabis was also openly grown in and sold from the Daktory. Nationwide branches of the Daktory were planned for all major New Zealand cities and other areas of strong demand for cannabis.

LynnMall is a shopping centre in New Lynn, a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. New Zealand's first shopping centre, LynnMall, opened in 1963. Since then, the centre has continued to evolve and in 2015 underwent redevelopment to incorporate an eight-screen cinema complex and an outdoor dining lane. Together with the existing Farmers department store and Countdown supermarket, the centre provides a shopping destination in the developing town centre of New Lynn. In January 2015, Lynnmall commenced a $36 million expansion, named Brickworks, which included a new cinema, dining precinct and additional stores. In November that year, Brickworks officially opened to the public.Seven people were injured in a stabbing attack on 3 September 2021 at the mall, one of whom narrowly missed the knife but was still affected. The attacker Ahamed Samsudeen was shot and killed by police.

On 3 September 2021 at 14:40 NZST, eight people were injured in a mass stabbing at the LynnMall Countdown supermarket in New Lynn, Auckland, New Zealand. The attacker, Ahamed Samsudeen, was being followed by police officers, who intervened during the attack and shot and killed him after he charged the officers. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was being treated as terrorism and was "ISIS-inspired" according to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. This was the second stabbing in less than four months to occur at a Countdown supermarket, the first being in Dunedin, and the first terrorist attack in New Zealand since the Christchurch mosque shootings in 2019.

New Lynn railway station is on the Western Line of the Auckland railway network, New Zealand, and is part of an integrated transport centre where transfers can be made to and from bus services. A redeveloped station in a new rail trench was opened on 25 September 2010. LynnMall, a major shopping mall, is close by.

New Lynn War Memorial Library (Māori: Te Pātaka Kōrero o Te Rewarewa) is a public library located in New Lynn, West Auckland, New Zealand. Opening in 1956 as part of a planned community centre precinct and World War I memorial, the original library was demolished and redeveloped in 2005. Memorial Square at the entrance to the museum was redeveloped in 1998 to a design by landscape architect Megan Wraight. The square incorporates brick columns and a sunken waka sculpture, added in 2000 and designed by Te Kawerau ā Maki carvers Sunnah Thompson and Rewi Spraggon.
