Brynmill railway station

Brynmill is a suburb of the City and County of Swansea, Wales, UK. It lies about two miles (3 km) to the west of Swansea city centre. It is a residential area forming the southern part of the Uplands electoral ward. As it is close to Swansea University, many students choose to rent rooms here during term time. Aside from the student population, this is a fairly middle-class area. Brynmill is approximately bounded by Swansea Bay to the south; Brynmill Lane to the west; Glanbrydan Avenue to the north; Bryn-y-Mor Road to the north-east; and Guildhall Road to the south-east. Brynmill can be further subdivided between the upland area of Brynmill proper and the lowland area of St. Helen's close the sea. Brynmill is situated on hilly terrain. Many of the properties are built on slopes. Property subsidence is a problem here. Property prices here are around the national average. Council tax rates here are quite high. The area offers convenient access to the city centre shopping area via the Oystermouth Road to the South, and Sketty Road to the North. However, these roads are rather congested during peak hours.

Singleton Abbey (Welsh: Abaty Singleton) is a large, mainly 19th-century mansion in Swansea, Wales. Today, the buildings are used to house administration offices for Swansea University. They can be found at the eastern end of the Swansea University Singleton Park campus.

Archif Menywod Cymru / Women's Archive Wales (AMC/WAW) is a charity which works to identify and preserve resources for the study of women in the history of Wales. Its aims are defined as: "To identify and rescue materials relating to the lives of women in Wales past, present and future, and encourage their deposit in appropriate public repositories" and "To promote understanding of women’s roles in Welsh history, and the inclusion of women in history taught in schools and higher education."AMC/WAW's collections are held in county archives, the National Library of Wales, Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales, and university and other libraries.AMC/WAW supports research and study into women's history in Wales, including both Welsh women and other women who have lived or worked in Wales or contributed to Welsh history.It was co-founded by Ursula Masson, who in 1995 had obtained research funding to document the history of the women's liberation movement in Wales. In December 1997 she and her research assistant Avril Rolph organised a meeting of librarians, archivists, historians and other interested parties, which resulted in the formation of AMC/WAW. Its first AGM was held in 1998 and Deirdre Beddoe was elected as chair.

It is linked to additional teaching centres located throughout South and West Wales, including Cefn Coed Hospital, Singleton Hospital and Morriston Hospital in Swansea, Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, Withybush General Hospital in Haverfordwest and Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth. The Medical School also has a network of primary care (General Practice) teaching centers. Swansea University Medical School is ranked as the 3rd best medical school in the UK by the Complete University Guide. Swansea University is the top university in Wales in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 league table – and has also won the inaugural Welsh University of the Year title. The Medical School leads a four-year graduate entry medicine degree (MB BCh) alongside BSc degrees in Applied Medical Sciences, Genetics, and Biochemistry. The school also teaches higher degree programmes, including PhD, MD, MCh and master's degrees. In 2017, the Graduate Entry Medicine degree was featured in the QS World University Rankings for the first time.Swansea University Medical School employs four core activities; Learning and Teaching, Research, Enterprise and Innovation and collaboration with the NHS.In January 2017, the British Heart Foundation relocated to Swansea University Medical School and housed itself in the Institute of Life Science. In March, the Medical School announced a new partnership with Pfizer which involves the pharmaceutical company locating itself at the university's Bay Campus.

St Helen's Rugby and Cricket Ground, commonly known simply as St Helens Ground, is a sports venue in Swansea, Wales, owned and operated by the City and County of Swansea Council. Used mainly for rugby union and cricket, it has been the home ground of Swansea RFC and Swansea Cricket Club since it opened in 1873. In rugby union, St Helen's was the venue for the first ever home match of the Wales national team in 1882. It continued to be used regularly by Wales, often for the Five Nations Championship, until 1954, but has staged only one full international since, in 1997. More recently, the ground has been used by the Wales women's team. Glamorgan County Cricket Club have regularly used St Helen's as an outground since 1921. The ground has staged two One Day Internationals: England against New Zealand in 1973, and a 1983 World Cup match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. St. Helen's was the location of Sir Garfield Sobers's six sixes in a single over in first-class cricket, the maximum possible runs in a single over, and the first time it had been done. St Helen's has also staged international matches in two other sports. In rugby league, Wales played thirteen matches at the ground between 1945 and 1978, two of which were part of the 1975 World Cup tournament. A football international between Wales and Ireland took place at St Helen's in 1894.

In 1996, it changed its name to the University of Wales Swansea following structural changes within the University of Wales. The title of Swansea University was formally adopted on 1 September 2007 when the University of Wales became a non-membership confederal institution and the former members became universities in their own right.Swansea University has three faculties across its two campuses which are located on the coastline of Swansea Bay.
