Clarksville is the county seat of Montgomery County, Tennessee, United States. It is the fifth-largest city in the state, after Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, and Chattanooga. The city had a population of 166,722 as of the 2020 United States census.It is the principal central city of the Clarksville metropolitan area, which consists of Montgomery and Stewart counties in Tennessee and Christian and Trigg counties in Kentucky. The city was founded in 1785 and incorporated in 1807, and named for General George Rogers Clark, frontier fighter and Revolutionary War hero, and brother of William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.Clarksville is the home of Austin Peay State University; The Leaf-Chronicle, the oldest newspaper in Tennessee; and neighbor to the Fort Campbell, United States Army post. The site of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell is located about 10 miles (16 km) from downtown Clarksville and straddles the Tennessee-Kentucky state line.

North Tennessee Bible Institute and Seminary is an unaccredited private Christian college originally based in Clarksville, Tennessee. It was founded in 1970-71 by Dr. William Corley, Dr. Roy Neeley and Mary McCraw. Corley was president until he died in 2008. Under Corley's leadership the interdenominational Institute offered 2- and 4-year programs leading to a "ministry license," and preparing students for Christian ministry and missionary work.The Institute was active in sponsoring tent meeting revivals and interdenominational crusades for Christ.In 2012 the Institute's property on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Clarksville was rezoned in order to enable it to be sold.

First Presbyterian Church is a historic church at 213 Main Street in Clarksville, Tennessee. The congregation is currently affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Emerald Hill, also known as Eagle's Nest, is a historic mansion in Clarksville, Tennessee, U.S., built in 1830. The owner, Thomas W. Frazer, donated it to his niece, Marion McClure, the wife of Confederate Senator Gustavus Adolphus Henry Sr., in the 1840s. It was purchased by the Austin Peay State University Alumni Association in 1975.The house was designed in the Greek Revival architectural style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since July 14, 1971.

First Presbyterian Church Manse (Farris Apartments) is a historic church manse at 305 Main Street in Clarksville, Tennessee. It was built in 1890 and added to the National Register in 2001.

The Roxy Theatre is a theatre located in the historic downtown section of Clarksville, Tennessee in the United States. Standing on a corner of the Public Square it offers live theater shows to the public offering a wide variety of selection in the spirit of literary theater. The Roxy was built in 1947 after the 1913 Lilian Theater burned down in 1945. The Roxy has been used as a backdrop for numerous photo shoots, films, documentaries, music videos and television commercials; most notably for Sheryl Crow's Grammy-award-winning song All I Wanna Do. Since the early 20th century, the corner of Franklin and First has been the anchor for Clarksville's entertainment community. The Lillian, built in 1912, was the first theatre on this corner. Following a fire in 1913, the Lillian was rebuilt in 1914 and saw thousands of patrons enjoying first-run movies. Following a second fire in 1945, and with the advent of Fort Campbell, the Lillian was completely rebuilt and at last became The Roxy. A sleek exterior, featuring a new lighting called neon, beaconed movie-goers from miles around. Opening in 1947, The Roxy entertained Clarksvillians with first-run movies until 1980. In 1995, a professional company was created in order to supply the great demand for Shakespeare, Greek classics, school curriculum and holiday shows, and to enlarge the Roxy's outreach services to the community. The Roxy Regional School of the Arts was also born in 1995, offering teens extensive training in modern theatre as well as being able to work alongside professionals. The summer offers a joint project between the Roxy and the Clarksville-Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department, offering teens a six-week drama camp for a nominal fee.

Trinity Episcopal Church is a historic church at 317 Franklin Street in Clarksville, Tennessee. The church and its rectory are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Trinity Church and Rectory. The Trinity Episcopal parish is one of the five oldest Episcopal parishes in Tennessee, established in 1832. Its first church building was completed in 1838. It was the second permanent church building in Clarksville, preceded only by a Methodist church built a few years earlier.The church remained open through the Civil War, including the Union Army occupation of Clarksville. Its rector, the Rev'd Samuel Ringgold, convinced Union leaders to allow it to remain open, telling them that the value of "decent and orderly" worship should transcend both politics and war.The original building was demolished in 1873 and replaced by the current Romanesque-style building, which was completed in 1877 and is faced with rough-cut gray stone. The rectory was built in 1883 and a parish house was added in 1916. Renovations in the 1920s and 1980s maintained the historic integrity of the original design.Trinity Church and Rectory were added to the National Register in 1982. A tornado on January 22, 1999, destroyed the parish house, knocked over part of the steeple and severely damaged the church roof. Subsequently, the church building was restored and a new parish house was built.

Clarksville Methodist Church is a historic church building at 334 Main Street in Clarksville, Tennessee. Currently, the building isn't used as a church. The church was built in 1831, the first permanent church building in Clarksville and one of the city's first brick buildings. In the 1880s, it ceased being used as a church and was converted into residential apartments. It is the only church building in Clarksville that was built before 1850 and is still standing.The former church building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. At that time, it still housed residential apartments. A National Register nomination document stated that the building retained "much of its original architectural character" in spite of renovations.

The Customs House Museum and Cultural Center is Tennessee's second largest general interest museum. It features fine art, history, and children's exhibits. It is located in Clarksville, TN's Downtown District on 200 South 2nd Street. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 as Clarksville Federal Building. It was established in 1984 as the Clarksville Montgomery County Museum.

Austin Peay State University (APSU) () is a public university in Clarksville, Tennessee. Standing on a site occupied by a succession of educational institutions since 1845, the precursor of the university was established in 1927 and named for then-sitting Governor Austin Peay, who is further honored with "Governors", the name of the university's athletic teams. Affiliated with the Tennessee Board of Regents, it is now governed by the Austin Peay State University Board of Trustees as of May 2017. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and, in 2012, was the fastest-growing university in Tennessee. In 2019, Austin Peay officially hit 11,000 students enrolled.
