Speke-Garston (ward)

Speke and Garston Coastal Reserve is a park in south Liverpool, Merseyside, England. It was developed on part of the former site of Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

The Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon Airport Hotel, formerly the Marriott Liverpool South Hotel, is an airport hotel near to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, serving the English city of Liverpool. Today a member of the Crowne Plaza chain owned by the InterContinental Hotels Group, the Grade II* listed Art Deco hotel building has an unusual history. The building was constructed in the 1930s, as the terminal building for the airport, then known as Speke Aerodrome. It is still sometimes seen on early television news footage, with its terraces packed with fans waiting to greet the Beatles on their return from tour. The airport terminal was moved to a more modern building at Liverpool John Lennon Airport in 1986, and the original building was left derelict for over a decade. During this time, the building was featured on the cover art of the single "Don't Go Away", by Oasis. However it has since been renovated and adapted to become a hotel, opening for business in 2001. The adaption involved adding two new bedroom wings on the frontage of the hotel, but the airside aspect has been preserved intact.The former apron of the terminal is also listed and retained in its original condition, although it is no longer connected to the airport or subject to airside access control. It is the home of several aircraft, including BAe Jetstream 41 prototype G-JMAC, Hawker Siddeley HS 748 G-BEJD, Bristol Britannia 308F G-ANCF and Percival Prince G-AMLZ, preserved by the Speke Aerodrome Heritage Group. Additionally, the group looks after a replica de Havilland Dragon Rapide that is displayed in front of the hotel entrance.The two art deco style hangars that flank the terminal and apron have also been converted for new uses. One is now a leisure centre, whilst the other has been adapted as the headquarters of the Shop Direct Group, and is now known as Skyways House.

New Mersey Shopping Park is an out of town retail park located in Speke, Liverpool, England. It opened in 1985.The park is situated alongside the A561 road near to Liverpool John Lennon Airport 5 mi (8.0 km) south-east of Liverpool city centre. Much of the construction occurred in 1999 to 2000 when the complex was home to thirty one units and had a combined total gross internal floor area of 472,605 sq ft (43,906.4 m2), New Mersey Park has since seen the construction of several new units to the south of the A561 adjacent to the former Speke Airport terminal building (which is now the Crowne Plaza LJLA Hotel). There are parking spaces for approximately 1,850 vehicles. A leisure area opened in 2018 and features a Cineworld 11-screen cinema, Nando's, Wagamama, TGI Fridays, Pizza Express, Yo Sushi, Hollywood Bowl, Zizzi and Ninja Warrior UK.

The Mersey Match Factory, later known as The Matchworks, is a former match factory on Speke Road, Garston, Liverpool, England. The factory closed in 1994, and has since been converted into offices and workshops. It had opened in 1921, having been built for Maguire, Paterson and Palmer, and later used by Bryant and May. The factory was the first building in the United Kingdom to be constructed using the flat-slab concrete technique. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

ROC Post Speke is a nuclear monitoring post in Speke, Liverpool built during the Cold War. It was operational between 1959 and 1968. It has the distinction of being the only post of its type in Merseyside. As of 2012, plans to renovate the post were put under consideration as part of the RAF Speke museum project, with funds donated to Help for Heroes.

Prescot South is a Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council Ward. The ward was created for the 2016 municipal election when the number of councillors on Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council was reduced from 63 to 45.The ward is in the St Helens South and Whiston constituency.

Allerton and Hunts Cross is a Liverpool City Council Ward in the Garston and Halewood Parliamentary constituency. The ward was created for the 2004 municipal election from parts of the former Allerton ward and a small part of Woolton ward.

Allerton TMD is a railway depot situated in Allerton, Liverpool. Situated opposite Liverpool South Parkway bus and rail interchange, it is visible from trains which are travelling between the former and Hunts Cross and the overhead passageway above platforms 1 to 4 at Liverpool South Parkway. The depot is located less than 2 km (1.2 mi) from the Freightliner intermodal terminal at Garston Docks and is also 7 km (4.3 mi) from the Stobart Rail intermodal depot in Widnes. During the days of steam locomotive operation, the shed code was 8H between 1960 and 1963 and 8J between 1963 and 1973. Since 1973, when TOPS was introduced, Allerton's depot code has been AN.

Speke Hall is a wood-framed wattle-and-daub Tudor manor house in Speke, Liverpool, England. It is one of the finest surviving examples of its kind. It is owned by the National Trust and is a Grade I listed building.

Allerton Cemetery is a cemetery in Allerton, Liverpool, England. The cemetery, of 150 acres (61 ha), is one of the main burial sites for the Metropolitan Borough of Liverpool and is Grade II listed. Springwood Crematorium is situated opposite the cemetery on Springwood Avenue. Purchase of the land for the cemetery was completed in October 1906, the Church of England section was consecrated by the Bishop of Liverpool on 24 September 1909, and the first burial in the cemetery took place on 29 December 1909. It is still in operation.

Hunts Cross chord is a section of railway track in Liverpool that was built by the Cheshire Lines Committee (CLC) to connect the LNWR's Edge Hill to Ditton Junction line with the CLC's Liverpool to Manchester Line. Mainline services between Manchester and Liverpool were diverted to Lime Street from their previous terminus at Central High Level over this connection from 5 September 1966.Train operating companies using the chord are East Midlands Railway and Northern for services between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly along the CLC route. TransPennine Express used this route until May 2018, when trains were rerouted via Newton-le-Willows.

Garston and Halewood is a constituency created in 2010 represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Maria Eagle of the Labour Party.
