Battle of Brovary

Brovary (Ukrainian: Бровари, IPA: [broʋɐˈrɪ] ; Yiddish: בראָוואַר, romanized: Brovar) is a city in Kyiv Oblast, northern Ukraine, situated to the east of the capital Kyiv and part of the Kyiv metropolitan area. It serves as the administrative centre of Brovary Raion. Brovary hosts the administration of Brovary urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. It has a population of 109,806 (2022 estimate).

On 18 January 2023, a Ukrainian Eurocopter EC225 Super Puma carrying ten people, including Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrsky, his deputy Yevhen Yenin, and State Secretary Yurii Lubkovych, crashed into a kindergarten in Brovary, a suburb of Kyiv, Ukraine. The crash killed fourteen people, including Monastyrsky, Yenin, and Lubkovych. Four of the victims were killed on the ground, including one child. Twenty-five other people were injured on the ground, including eleven children.

Kniazhychi (Ukrainian: Княжичі; Russian: Княжичи; Polish: Kniażyci) is a village in the Kyiv Oblast (province) of northern Ukraine. The village has a population of 5202. The total area of land within the administrative boundaries of Kniazhychi village council is 3669.3 hectares.

Kalynivka (Ukrainian: Калинівка) is an urban-type settlement in Brovary Raion (district) of Kyiv Oblast (province) in northern Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Kalynivka settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Its population is 6,178 as of the 2001 Ukrainian Census. Kalynivka was founded in 1928 as a village, and it retained its village status until it was upgraded to that of an urban-type settlement on January 23, 2003. Population: 3,723 (2022 estimate).

Kyiv Theological Seminary of the Three Holy Hierarchs is seminary of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church near Kyiv, Ukraine, which is jointly administered by the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Kyiv and the missionary exarchates of Lutsk, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Donetsk.When the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church was banned in the Russian Empire in the 19th century, the Church existed only in Western Ukraine and the diaspora. After Ukraine declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, the UGCC began to return to Central and Eastern Ukraine. The See of Lviv and Halych was returned to Kyiv in 2004 after a nearly 200-year exile. Soon thereafter, the seminary was created by Patriarch Lubomyr Husar to serve the new territories. There had existed a Ukrainian Catholic seminary in Radomyshl serving the See of Kyiv at the end of the 18th century, and that is also sometimes cited as among the origins of the modern-day seminary.The current seminary is affiliated with the Ukrainian Catholic University and accredited by the Holy See.

Bykivnia Forest (Ukrainian: Биківнянський ліс) is an urban forest consisting mostly of pine trees (90%), and stretching on the eastern side of Kyiv from the National Park Zalissia in southern direction towards Bortnychi, creating a green belt. It is primarily associated with the Memorial Park Bykivnia Graves, which is located within it. On 19th century maps, the western outskirts of Bykivnia Forest show that it once reached the Dnieper. It has since then lost almost half of its original area, as such as Lisovyi Masyv residential neighbourhoods were built in Kyiv during 1970s. The forest has an area of 2,582 ha (6,380 acres). The forest containsa number of lakes and ponds, such as Lake Almazne, Lake Berizka, and ponds that once formed part of the fishery of a Soviet farm, a flooded sand quarry. Through the forest flow rivers Darnytsia and Prirva. Portion of the woodland also contains some peat fields. Within the forest, there is a bird farm. On the edge of the forest are located one of the Kyiv's combined heat and power station and Darnytsia Industrial Park that includes an abandoned chemical factory, railcar repair factory, and an armoured tank factory.

Desnianskyi District (Ukrainian: Деснянський район, translit. Desnians’kyi raion) is an administrative raion (district or borough) of the city of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. It is located in the north-eastern part of the city on the Left Bank of the Dnieper River and is the most populous district of Kyiv. It is also the second largest district, with the total area of ca. 14.2 ha. Desnianskyi District mainly consists of two microdistricts – Troieshchyna and Lisovyi – making it predominantly residential in nature. There is only one clear-cut, (yet small) industrial zone called Kulykove on the border with Dniprovskyi Raion. This fact explains why the district has the lowest number of registered business entities among Kyiv raions. Much like commuter town, therefore, Desnianskyi District has very little commercial or industrial activity beyond a small amount of retail, oriented toward serving the locals. However, it differs from commuter towns in that it forms part of the city proper and is not regarded as suburb in a classical sense. Still, its currently weak transportation links with the major part of the city on the Right Bank make it appear as a "city inside a city", which is especially true for Troieshchyna microdistrict.

The Bykivnia graves (Ukrainian: Биківнянські могили) are a National Historic Memorial next to the former village of Bykivnia (Ukrainian: Биківня, Polish: Bykownia) within Kyiv woodland, Bykivnia Forest. During the Stalinist period in the Soviet Union, it was one of the unmarked mass grave sites where the NKVD, the Soviet secret police, disposed of thousands of executed "enemies of the Soviet state". Bykivnia as a residential place still exists as an locality with the same Bykivnia Forest. The National Memorial is located across Brovarskyi prospect from Bykivnia, next to the former Rybne Soviet fishery in the thick of the woods. The number of dead bodies buried there is estimated between "dozens of thousand," to 30,000, to 100,000. Some estimates place the number as high as 200,000.

Prolisky (Ukrainian: Проліски) is a settlement on the eastern edge of the city of Kyiv, in Boryspil Raion, Kyiv Oblast of Ukraine. It belongs to Prystolychna rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine.The name of the village is derived from the Ukrainian word "Пролісок", which can be translated as "snowdrop" or "Galanthus".

Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University (Ukrainian: Київський столичний університет імені Бориса Грінченка) is a higher education institution. The university was established by Kyiv municipal council through reorganization of Kyiv regional Teachers Training Institute named after Borys Hrinchenko. The university is communal property. According to the decision of Kyiv municipal council of 8 October 2009 Kyiv Municipal Pedagogical University named after Borys Grinchenko was renamed Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University and its status changed. The university was transformed from a pedagogical profile to a multi-profile classic educational institution. This enabled it to expand its activities and have more majors, ensuring full satisfaction of educational requirements of Kyiv dwellers, meeting the needs of Kyiv and its region. In implementing these tasks the university's activity is aimed at achieving high standards and becoming a European-level institution. The university consists of six institutes, four faculties and one university college with more than 9,000 students. There are 35 operating departments. The scientific-pedagogical staff includes 49 PhDs, 184 EdSs, and 434 teachers. The university offers 10 masters, 12 specialist and 12 bachelor level programmes. Each year around 6000 teachers and school principals enhance their skills and gain qualifications at the university. The university gives PhD training.

Shchaslyve (Ukrainian: Щасливе) is a village in Boryspil Raion, Kyiv Oblast that borders Kyiv city. It hosts the administration of Prystolychna rural hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Along with a settlement Prolisky, it composes the Shchaslyve rural council which is the biggest council in the district. The village and the council are located along the Kyiv-Kharkiv highway M03 on the way to the Boryspil International Airport. The village contains sports facility Knyazha Arena and used to house the FC Knyazha Shchaslyve. Since 2014 in Shchaslyve plays the FC Arsenal-Kyiv. The village was created in 1969 as part of Bortnychi state farm. Today Bortnychi is a neighborhood of Kyiv city.
