Astley Brook

Eagley Brook (also known during the formative part of its course as Belmont Brook) is a small river of Lancashire and Greater Manchester in England. Rising at the confluence of several smaller streams at Old Man's Hill in the West Pennine Moors, the brook almost immediately feeds Belmont Reservoir, after which it moves south and south east, passing the village of Belmont and collecting several tributaries and traversing the Longworth Clough, emerging close to Egerton. From there, the river goes south, through Eagley near Bromley Cross, towards Astley Bridge, after which it joins Astley Brook at Meeting of the Waters to form the River Tonge. Eagley Brook was historically important to the industrial and economic life of the north Bolton area. Its fast-flowing streams provided power to the water-wheels of the early industrial period, steam power at a later date, and soft water for bleaching and paper making.

The two Bolton power stations supplied electric power to the town of Bolton and the wider area between 1894 and 1979. The first power station was located in Bolton town centre but by 1910 was too small to meet the growing demand for electricity. A large coal-fired power station was commissioned in 1914 situated at Back o’ th’ Bank about 1 mile north of the town centre. The electricity generating station was redeveloped several times until it was closed in 1979 and was subsequently demolished and the site redeveloped.

Hall i' th' Wood is an early 16th-century manor house in Bolton in the historic county of Lancashire and the ceremonial county of Greater Manchester, England. It is a Grade I listed building and is currently used as a museum by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council. It was the manor house for the moiety of the Tonge with Haulgh township held by the Brownlows in the 16th century. The original building is timber framed and has a stone flagged roof; there were later additions to the house, built from stone, in 1591 and 1648. The name represents "Hall in the Wood' spoken in the local regional English dialect and is pronounced . The house was not used as a gentry house but rather given over to multiple occupation by families engaged in industry. Four (previously five) separate dwellings can be identified, each with its own entrance and staircase. One part was let to Samuel Crompton during the 18th century, where he designed and built the first spinning mule. About 1779, Crompton succeeded in producing a mule-jenny, a machine which spun yarn suitable for use in the manufacture of muslin. It was known as the muslin wheel or the Hall i' th' Wood wheel from the name of the house.Hall i' th' Wood was bought by William Lever (later Lord Leverhulme) in 1899 and was restored by Jonathan Simpson and Edward Ould. Lever gave the house to the Corporation of Bolton in 1900.An episode of the television programme Most Haunted was filmed in the hall in 2008.In Fisher's Drawing Room Scrap Book, 1833, is a poetical illustration by Letitia Elizabeth Landon to an engraving of a painting of the hall by William Linton. This dwells on the changes the hall has seen over the centuries.

Sharples, a suburb of Bolton, was a township of the civil and ecclesiastical parish of Bolton le Moors in the Salford hundred of Lancashire, England. It lay 2½ miles north of Bolton. It contained the smaller settlements of Banktop, Sweet-Loves, High-Houses, Gale, Folds, Belmont, Piccadilly, Water-Meetings, Old Houses and part of Astley Bridge.

The Church of All Souls is a redundant Anglican church in Astley Street, Astley Bridge, Bolton, Lancashire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. As of 2010, the church is being converted into a community centre.

Astley Bridge Mill or Holden Mill is a former cotton mill in the district of Astley Bridge in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England which has since been converted into an apartment building. Constructed in 1926 for Sir John Holden & Sons Ltd, it was the last cotton mill to be built in Bolton and is a Grade II listed building.

Sharples School is a co-educational secondary school located in the Sharples area of Bolton in the English county of Greater Manchester.Established in 1974, the School celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2014.Previously a community school administered by Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council, in June 2016 Sharples School converted to academy status. The school continues to coordinate with Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council for admissions. Sharples School offers GCSEs, BTECs and the CiDA as programmes of study for pupils. The school also has a specialism in STEM (Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths).

Hall i' th' Wood railway station is the last stop before Bolton on the Northern Trains franchise's Ribble Valley Line into Blackburn and Clitheroe in England. The station opened by British Rail on 29 September 1986. It is located in the middle of a housing estate and forms an unofficial footpath between the two sides. In March 2008 work began on a new car park for the station.It takes its name from the nearby Hall i' th' Wood, now a museum which is within walking distance of the station.

Little Bolton Town Hall is a municipal building in All Saints Street, Little Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. The structure, which was the meeting place of the trustees of Little Bolton, is a Grade II listed building.
