Gateway Marketplace is an open-air shopping mall located within the city of Detroit, Michigan. The complex is located at the southeast corner of 8 Mile Road (M-102) and Woodward Avenue (M-1), near the Michigan State Fair complex. The complex contains around forty inline tenants on its 35 acres (140,000 m2).

The Palmer Woods Historic District is a neighborhood located in Detroit, Michigan, bounded by Seven Mile Road, Woodward Avenue, and Strathcona Drive. There are approximately 295 homes in the 188-acre (0.76 km2) district, which is between the City of Highland Park in Wayne County and the City of Ferndale in Oakland County. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The Detroit Golf Club is nearby. As of 2015, many of the wealthiest professionals in the city of Detroit live in Palmer Woods.

The Michigan State Fair Riding Coliseum, Dairy Cattle Building, and Agricultural Building are three buildings located on the grounds of the Michigan State Fair in Detroit, Michigan. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum (also Hockeytown State Fair Coliseum) was a 5,600-seat multi-purpose arena in Detroit, Michigan. The coliseum, built in 1922, was part of the former Michigan State Fairgrounds until its demolition in early 2022. The Michigan State Fair, the oldest state fair in the United States, was held here until 2009. The coliseum has also been the long-time venue of Detroit performances by the Shrine Circus. Between 1999 and 2008, the Coliseum was home to the Wayne State University Warriors ice hockey team. Wayne State played its first collegiate hockey season in 1999 at the arena following the coliseum's renovation. Wayne State played its next three seasons at the Great Lakes Sports City Superior Arena in Fraser and then two seasons at the Compuware Sports Arena in Plymouth before returning to the Coliseum in 2005. The arena was also host to the 2006 men's and women's College Hockey America conference tournament. Between early 1999 and mid-2000, the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum was the site of three Extreme Championship Wrestling house shows. In 2006 the Royal Oak-Shrine Catholic High School Knights ice hockey team began playing at the State Fairgrounds Coliseum. The team left in 2007; they returned in the 2008–2009 season for their first varsity season. The Motor City Mechanics of the United Hockey League, which had suspended operations in 2006, planned to resume in 2008 and play at the Coliseum. But this never took place, and the UHL (rebranded as the International Hockey League) closed in 2010. The exterior of the coliseum was used as the Flint Fairgrounds Coliseum in the 2008 movie Semi-Pro. In 2020, the state fairgrounds were sold to Amazon; the company plans to convert the site into a $400 million distribution center. As of this date, it is planned that the buildings on the site, including the Coliseum, will be demolished. Demolition began on the building in January 2022, and was completed by the next May. The facade of the building, however, will remain preserved.

The Jason Hargrove Transit Center (JHTC) is a major public transit station in Detroit, Michigan, United States. It is the third iteration of the State Fair Transit Center, located at the old Michigan State Fairgrounds, near the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. It serves as the secondary hub for the Detroit Department of Transportation bus network, as well as a major transfer point for the suburban SMART network, served by 13 bus routes in total. The JHTC is an adaptive reuse project, housed in the former Dairy Cattle Building, the last remaining structure from the Michigan State Fair at the site. The remainder of the State Fair site has been redeveloped for retail and industrial uses.

The Dorothy H. Turkel House is a private residence located at 2760 West 7 Mile Road in north-central Detroit, Michigan, within the Palmer Woods neighborhood. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1956.The Dorothy H. Turkel House is the only Wright-designed building within the city limits of Detroit. The spacious, two-story residence also represents a rare example of Usonian design, since the "Usonian Homes" were typically small, single-story dwellings. The house was purchased in 2006 by Norman Silk and Dale Morgan, who began restoration work on the house with former Wright apprentice, Lawrence R. Brink. The restoration was complete in 2010, at a reported cost of one million dollars.

Sherwood Forest is a neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan. The neighborhood is bounded by Seven Mile Road, Livernois, Pembroke, and Parkside. The community, with about 435 houses, consists of two subdivisions: Sherwood Forest and Sherwood Forest Manor.The neighborhood was named after Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire, England which was the setting for the Robin Hood tales.

The Michigan State Fairgrounds Speedway was a dirt oval racing track located in Detroit, Michigan. The track was built in 1899 for horse racing, and it was part of the ground purchased to provide a permanent venue for the Michigan State Fair. Joseph Lowthian Hudson donated the land, at Woodward Avenue and what is now 8 Mile Road, to the Michigan State Agricultural Society.By 1908, the racetrack, at the east end of the fairground, had a 5,000-seat capacity grandstand. The track originally hosted Thoroughbred flat racing as well as Standardbred harness racing. Later, it was used for auto racing, after the growth of that industry. In 1971 the grandstand was declared unsafe; it was demolished in 2001.

The Detroit Golf Club (abbreviated to DGC) is a private golf club located in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan in the middle of a neighborhood area on north side of the city near the University of Detroit Mercy and Palmer Woods Historic District. Bert Way designed the original 6-hole course. It was expanded to 9 holes, and finally Donald Ross built the current 36-hole course. The club grounds crew maintains two courses, the North and the South Course. The head pro is Josh Upson. Starting in 2019, Detroit Golf Club began hosting the Rocket Mortgage Classic, a new annual PGA Tour event.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is a professional golf tournament in Michigan on the PGA Tour at Detroit Golf Club It debuted in 2019, replacing the Quicken Loans National on the PGA Tour schedule, and is the first PGA Tour event to be held completely within the Detroit city limits.For the 2019 season, the event was part of the Open Qualifying Series, giving two non-exempt players entry into The Open Championship at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

Baker's Keyboard Lounge is a jazz club located at 20510 Livernois Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. It was founded in May 1933 and is the oldest continuously operated jazz club in Detroit.

Chaldean Town was a historically Chaldo-Assyrian neighborhood in Detroit located along West Seven Mile Road in a segment in between Woodward Avenue to the west and John R St. to the east. Circa 2007 the population of the district was mainly low income elderly people and recent immigrants, who were mostly made up of Chaldean Catholic Assyrians. The neighborhood was usually just a stop point for newly arrived immigrants, who then typically preferred to move to the suburbs of Detroit when they could afford to.
