San Domenico Maggiore

The Palazzo di Sangro di Casacalenda is an 18th-century aristocratic palace located across a pizza from the church of San Domenico Maggiore in central Naples, region of Campania, Italy. The East flank of the facade faces the facade of the church of Sant'Angelo a Nilo.

The Veiled Christ (Italian: Cristo velato) is a 1753 marble sculpture by Giuseppe Sanmartino exhibited in the Cappella Sansevero, Naples, Italy. Veiled Christ is considered one of the world's most remarkable sculptures, and legendarily thought to have been created by alchemy. Sculptor Antonio Canova, who tried to acquire the work, declared that he would willingly give up ten years of his life to produce a similar masterpiece.

The Cappella Sansevero (also known as the Cappella Sansevero de' Sangri or Pietatella) is a chapel located on Via Francesco de Sanctis 19, just northwest of the church of San Domenico Maggiore, in the historic center of Naples, Italy. The chapel is more properly named the Chapel of Santa Maria della Pietà. It contains works of Rococo art by some of the leading Italian artists of the 18th century.

Palazzo di Sangro, also known as either Palazzo de Sangro di Sansevero or Palazzo Sansevero, is a late-Renaissance-style aristocratic palace facing the church of San Domenico Maggiore, separated by the via named after the church, in the city center of Naples, Italy. Part of the palace facade faces the piazza in front of the church, which is also bordered to the south by the Palazzo di Sangro di Casacalenda.

The Palazzo Carafa della Spina is a historic palace located on Via Benedetto Croce number 45, (part of Via Spaccanapoli) in the quartiere San Giuseppe of Naples, Italy. It is located between the Piazza of the Gesu Nuovo and the Piazza of San Domenico Maggiore. The Palace once belonged to a branch of the Carafa family. The building was also known as the Palace of Fabrizio Carafa, Prince of Butera and Roccella, which later was inherited by Carlo Maria Carafa, famous being part of the cavalcade that brought the Chinea or tribute of Naples to Pope Innocent XI, and patron of the Carafa Chapel in San Domenico Maggiore.In the 16th century, a member of the Carafa della Spina family acquired the palace at this site, and it was rebuilt in the first half of the 17th century, likely using the architect Domenico Fontana. The palace was reconstructed in the 18th century by the architect Martino Buonocore. The elaborate Baroque portal made of piperno rock, create a grand entrance to the courtyard. Atop the portal, two satyrs serve as telamons to support the balcony and hold the heraldic shield of the Carafa family. Further below are two flanking masks and pylons with lion heads. The portal and internal stairwell have been attributed to Ferdinando Sanfelice.

The Palazzo Venezia is a historical building Via Benedetto Croce 19 in Naples, Italy, a section of a street, Spaccanapoli. It is next to three other important buildings of Naples: Filomarino Palace, Carafa della Spina Palace and Petrucci Palace. It is evidence of intense political relationship during the centuries between the Republic of Venice and the Kingdom of Naples and an ignored building that is hidden in the city centre.

The Chapel of the Congregation of Monte dei Poveri (Cappella della Congregazione di Monte dei Poveri) is a Baroque-style chapel located on Via Tribunali in central Naples, Italy. The chapel is closed for services. The chapel is located inside the courtyard of the Palazzo Ricca, formerly the offices of the Monte dei Poveri, and now the offices of the historic archives of the Fondazione of the Istituto Banco di Napoli. The chapel was designed in 1663 by Don Giuseppe Caracciolo. The atrium has sculptures by Girolamo D'Auria, depicting Saints Thomas Acquinus, Januarius, and Anthony of Padua, and a canvas depicting the Holy Family by Giannantonio D’Amato. The main altar was designed in 1768 by Filippo Fasulo and completed in polychrome marble with sculptural decorations by Paolo Persico. The main altar has three paintings, a Circumcision (1673) by Luca Giordano and an Annunciation and Nativity by Francesco Solimena. The ceiling has an Immaculate Conception frescoed also by Giordano. The organ was completed in 1685 and restored in 1726. The facade was rebuilt in the 1700s using designs by Gaetano Barba and in 1751, the majolica clock and bell tower was added.

The Tomb of Cardinal Rainaldo Brancacci (or Brancaccio) is a sculptural work in the church of Sant'Angelo a Nilo in Naples, southern Italy, executed by Donatello and Michelozzo around 1426-1428. Built in marble, partly gilt and polychrome, it has a height of 11.60 meters and a width of 4.60.

Sant'Angelo a Nilo is a Roman Catholic church located on the Decumano Inferiore (Spaccanapoli street) in Naples, Italy. It stands diagonally across from San Domenico Maggiore in Naples. It is known for containing the monumental Renaissance-style tomb of Cardinal Rainaldo Brancacci (Italian: Sepolcro del Cardinale Brancacci) by Donatello and Michelozzo, one of the major sculptural works in the city.

The church of the Croce di Lucca is a religious edifice in central Naples, Italy, on the Via dei Tribunali. In 1534, the husband and wife, Andrea Sbarra and Cremona Spinelli founded at this site a monastery of the Carmelites. It was devoted to the image of the crucifix, similar to one venerated in Lucca. Two years later, the widowed Spinelli became a nun. Later endowments came from the Prince of Altamura, who had five daughters join the order: Aurelia, Maria, Elena, Eleonora, and Elisabetta del Giudice. The church we see now was decorated in the 17th century, and remains despite the demolition of the once adjacent monastery.The monastery is now replaced with medical clinics of the University of Naples. The interior was decorated on designs by Francesco Antonio Picchiatti. The nave ceiling has 16th century paintings depicting the Madonna del Carmine and Saints attributed to Giovanni Battista Caracciolo. Other works made for the church include puttini a chiaroscuro over the arches of the chapels by Giovanni Battista Rossi, pupil of Solimena. The first chapel on the left, has an Annunciation attributed to either Francesco Curia or Manchelli, a pupil of Marco da Siena. The second chapel has paintings of Saints Domenico & Monica by Nicola Malinconico. The third chapel has a Santa Maria Maddalena de’ Pazzi by the studio of Vaccaro. The altar and tabernacle are attributed to a Sanfelice in 1684. It has paintings by Giovanni Battista Rossi. The first chapel on the left had a Virgin of the Rosary by Balducci. The second, a Santa Teresa by a follower of Vaccaro. The third chapel has paintings and frescoes by Nicola Malinconico. A wooden Virgin sculpture was attributed to Domenico di Nardo. The sacristy frescoes are attributed to Lionardo Olivieri, also a pupil of Solimena.

The Pontano Chapel or Cappella dei Pontano is a Renaissance-style chapel in central Naples, Italy, on Via Tribunali, just in front of and obscuring the left lower façade of the church of Santa Maria Maggiore alla Pietrasanta. The chapel was built in 1492 by humanist Giovanni Pontano as funerary chapel for his beloved wife Adriana Sassone. The architects, the brothers Giocondo and Francesco di Giorgio, made the building have Vitruvian proportions for length and width. The serene façade, seemingly out of place with the bright dynamic façade of Santa Maria Maggiore, is constructed of grey piperno rock with pilasters. The interior has maiolica flooring. Behind the altar is a fresco of the Madonna with Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist (c. 1492) attributed to Francesco Cicino da Caiazzo.

The Palazzo D'Afflitto is a palace located in the San Giuseppe neighbourhood of Naples, Italy, adjacent to the Palazzo Capomazza di Campolattaro. It used to belong to the princely family d'Afflitto. In the third floor is the recently restored Church of the Real Monte Manso di Scala, built atop the famed Cappella Sansevero. The palace was built in the 15th century but underwent numerous reconstructions.
