Rovio, Ticino

Maroggia-Melano railway station (Italian: Stazione di Maroggia-Melano) is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The station is located on the border between the municipalities of Maroggia and Melano, and serves both. The station is on the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard railway, between Lugano and Chiasso.

The Mara is an 8-kilometre (5 mi) Italian stream (or torrente) of Insubria, which runs through the Italian Province of Como and the Swiss Canton Ticino. It rises on the slopes of Monte Sighignola and enters Lake Lugano at Maroggia. Despite the small size of its drainage basin the river is able to provide a source of hydro-electricity through a power station belonging to the Aziende industriali di Lugano. The Mara's water level is liable to rapid and unpredictable augmentation following sudden storms.

Melano is a former municipality in the district of Lugano in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 10 April 2022, the former municipalities of Maroggia, Melano and Rovio merged to form the new municipality of Val Mara.

The San Nicolao Tunnel is a motorway tunnel in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The tunnel is situated on the eastern bank of Lake Lugano, between Bissone and Maroggia, and forms part of the A2 motorway that links Lugano and the north of Switzerland with Chiasso and Italy. It was completed in 1968, and is around 680 metres (2,230 ft) in length.The San Nicolao Tunnel is paralleled by the 569 metres (1,867 ft) long Maroggia Tunnel, carrying the Swiss Federal Railways Gotthard line through the same lakeside promontory.

Bissone is a municipality in the district of Lugano, in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.

Capolago Lago is an infrequently served railway station on the Monte Generoso railway, a rack railway that connects Capolago with the summit of Monte Generoso in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The station is the lower terminus of the line, and provides interchange with ships of the Società Navigazione del Lago di Lugano at an immediately adjacent jetty on Lake Lugano.The station is only served to coincide with the arrival of a ship from Lugano; most trains start some 300 m (980 ft) further up the line at Capolago-Riva San Vitale station. Bellavista is a railway station on the Monte Generoso railway, a rack railway that connects Capolago with the summit of Monte Generoso in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Bellavista is the principal intermediate station on the line, and at one time the junction point for the Tramway Bellavista.

Capolago-Riva San Vitale railway station (Italian: Stazione di Capolago-Riva San Vitale) is a railway station in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The station is in the village of Capolago, part of the municipality of Mendrisio, but, as its name suggests, also serves the adjoining municipality of Riva San Vitale. The station is on the Swiss Federal Railways' Gotthard railway, between Lugano and Chiasso, and on the Monte Generoso railway, a rack railway to the summit of Monte Generoso.The station features three platforms on the Gotthardbahn, whilst the Monte Generoso trains stop at a streetside location in front of the station. The single track to Monte Generoso leaves the station to the south, immediately climbing to a flyover over the main line, and also continues to the north serving the railway's car shed, workshops, and lakeside terminal stop. Until 1948, the street outside the station contained not only the 800 mm (2 ft 7+1⁄2 in) gauge tracks of the Monte Generoso railway, but also the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) gauge tracks of the Mendrisio electric tramway, which linked Chiasso with Riva San Vitale via Mendrisio and Capolago.
