Vega Alta (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈbeɣa ˈalta]) is a town and municipality of Puerto Rico. Vega Alta is on the northern coast of the island, north of Morovis and Corozal; east of Vega Baja; and west of Dorado with an area of 28 square miles (73 km2). Vega Alta is subdivided into seven barrios and Vega Alta barrio-pueblo (the downtown area and the administrative center of the city). It is part of the San Juan-Caguas-Guaynabo Metropolitan Statistical Area. Vega Alta is west of San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico. Vega Alta is known for the beach at Cerro Gordo. Other points of interest include the town's Catholic church, known as Inmaculada Concepción, which was founded in 1813, and the Vega Alta Forest.During the first week of December, Vega Alta celebrates its patron saint, the Immaculate Conception. ”Vega Alta” translates to “high meadow” or "upper meadow" in English.

The Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción de Vega Alta (English: Church of the Immaculate Conception of Vega Alta) is a church built by 1831 on the town plaza of Vega Alta, Puerto Rico.It was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1984 as the "Church Inmaculada Conception of Vega Alta".

Vega Alta barrio-pueblo is a barrio and the administrative center (seat) of Vega Alta, a municipality of Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 1,169.As was customary in Spain, in Puerto Rico, the municipality has a barrio called pueblo which contains a central plaza, the municipal buildings (city hall), and a Catholic church. Fiestas patronales (patron saint festivals) are held in the central plaza every year.

Centro Gran Caribe, formerly known as the Plaza Caribe Mall, and later also known as The Gallery at Gran Caribe, is an enclosed shopping mall in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. Anchor stores for the mall are Selectos Supermarkets, ChinaTown, both of which reside in the former Kmart space at the mall, TJ Maxx, Capri, and Grand Way. The mall also contains a Caribbean Cinemas.

The Indio River (Spanish: Río Indio) is a river of Vega Baja and Morovis in Puerto Rico. Indio River has mogotes on either side. Indio River meets Cibuco River. The river is quick to rise and causes flooding when there is heavy rain.

The Escuela Industrial para Mujeres (Industrial School for Women) is a women's prison in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico. The facility has an official capacity of 471 inmates, and opened in 1954. There were 420 women incarcerated in 2015; 97 were imprisoned for controlled substances violations and another 97 for property crimes. At least 257 inmates had no criminal record prior to the conviction for which they were incarcerated.In 2012 federal judge Daniel R. Domínguez for the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico allowed an inmates' suit to go forward. The inmates sought damages from an incident where more masculine prisoners were segregated, herded into a visitation area, and taunted and threatened for days.In a 2009 paper, researchers interviewed inmates and found that the hospital facilities lacked hot water and air conditioning, and provided one bathroom for between 20 and 25 inmates. Inmates with diverse conditions, including mental illness, hepatitis, and HIV could not access treatment. The prison was failing to offer court-ordered programs, leaving some inmates in technical violation of the requirements of their sentences.
