The old Church of Santa Lucia in Massagno, canton of Ticino, Switzerland, was built in the 16th century and demolished in 1931 because of the extension of the Via San Gottardo. The new parish church of Santa Lucia was built to replace it in 1931 a few hundred metres from the square of the old church."The year of construction is not clearly indicated... An element for [its] determination...can be taken from the picture of the Adoration of the Magi...created by Bernardino Luini (or under his direction by his pupils) around the middle of the 16th century as a fresco above the altar." The frescoes and paintings from the old church, some from the 16th century, are now in the new church, including the 16th-century fresco of the Adoration of the Magi, which was transferred to canvas, and the paintings of the Annunciation (1636) and of Santa Lucia (17th century).

Molino Nuovo is a quarter of the city of Lugano, in the Swiss canton of Ticino. It lies to the north of the city center, and is the most populous quarter of the city. In 2012, it had a population of 9,258.

The Università della Svizzera italiana (USI, literally University of Italian Switzerland), sometimes referred to as the University of Lugano in English-speaking contexts, is a public Swiss university established in 1995, with campuses in Lugano, Mendrisio and Bellinzona (Canton Ticino, Switzerland). USI is the only university in Switzerland where the official language is Italian, but many of its programs are in English. Five of the university's faculties (communication, culture and society; economics; informatics; theology and biomedical sciences) are located at the Lugano campus, while the Academy of Architecture is at the Mendrisio campus. Two affiliated institutions, the Institute for Research in Biomedicine and the Institute of Oncology Research, are located in Bellinzona. In 2020, USI was ranked 273 in the 2020–2021 QS World University Rankings. In 2021, it climbed to rank 240. In other university rankings, USI ranked 54th in the 2020–2021 "Young University Rankings" of Times Higher Education World University Rankings, where universities with less than 50 years of activity are ranked.

The Advanced Learning and Research Institute (ALaRI), a faculty of informatics, was established in 1999 at the University of Lugano (Università della Svizzera italiana, USI) to promote research and education in embedded systems. The Faculty of Informatics within very few years has become one of the Switzerland major destinations for teaching and research, ranking third after the two Federal Institutes of Technology, Zurich and Lausanne. ALaRI offers the opportunity to obtain a master's degree in Cyber-Physical and Embedded Systems in cooperation with Politecnico di Milano and Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ).

Lugano railway station (Italian: Stazione di Lugano) is the main railway station of the city of Lugano, in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The station is on the Gotthard railway and is also the terminus of the Lugano Città–Stazione funicular. The metre gauge Lugano–Ponte Tresa Railway (FLP) has a separate station at Lugano FLP railway station across the station forecourt from the main line station.The station is situated on a hillside to the west of the city centre, overlooking the city and Lake Lugano, and the funicular provides a direct link from the station to the city centre below. The residential quarter of Besso lies above and to the west of the station. The station is nicknamed Terrazza del Ticino ("Terrace of Ticino") since the opening of the Gotthard Base Tunnel in 2016.

Sant'Antonio Abate is a Roman Catholic church facing Piazza Dante in the city center of Lugano, Switzerland, and dedicated to Anthony the Great. Construction for the building started in 1633 and continued throughout the centuries.The rich stucco decoration of the interior was executed in 1652 by Luca Corbellini and G. B. Bellotto, and was continued in 1683 by G. Rossi.Italian poet Alessandro Manzoni studied there between 1796 and 1798.

The Lugano Città–Stazione funicular, Funicolare Lugano Città–Stazione, or Sassellina, is a funicular railway in the city of Lugano in the Swiss canton of Ticino. The line's upper station is located within the main railway station of Lugano, and the lower station is on Piazza Cioccaro in the historic city centre below. It is one of the busiest funicular lines in Switzerland, carrying 2.4 million passengers in 2007.The Lugano Città–Stazione funicular is one of three funiculars within the Lugano area. The other two are the Monte Brè funicular, which ascends Monte Brè, and the Monte San Salvatore funicular, which ascends Monte San Salvatore.

Lugano (, UK also , Italian: [luˈɡaːno]; Ticinese: Lugan [lyˈɡãː]) is a city and municipality in Switzerland, part of the Lugano District in the canton of Ticino. The 1996 UCI Road World Championships took place in Lugano, Switzerland, between October 9 and October 13, 1996. The event consisted of a road race and a time trial for men, women and men under 23. The men's road race had 151 starters, 49 classified finishers, 15 laps of 17 km, totaling 252 km. Winner's average speed: 39.39 km/hr
