Porretta Terme railway station

Alto Reno Terme is a comune in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. It was formed on January 1, 2016, after the merger of Porretta Terme and Granaglione.

Porretta Terme (Bolognese: Puratta) is a town of the Reno Valley Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, a frazione of the comune of Alto Reno Terme, Emilia-Romagna. Porretta Terme is located about 60 kilometres (37 mi) south-west of Bologna. Known since Roman times for its thermal springs, it is also a center for winter sports thanks to the nearby resorts of Corno alle Scale, Abetone, Monte Cimone. It was a separate comune until January 2016, when it merged with Granaglione to form the new comune of Alto Reno Terme. During campaign of Italy in World War II, Porretta housed the Headquarters of the 1st Brazilian Army division between November 1944 and the final breakthrough of the Gothic Line.Since December 1987, Porretta Terme is the site of a soul music festival designed by Graziano Uliani, a passionate soul music fan, who, after attending the events in Macon, Georgia commemorating the 20th anniversary of the death of American musician Otis Redding, decided to dedicate a festival in his honour. The festival is associated with the Stax Museum of American Soul Music in Memphis and the Center for Southern Folklore in Memphis, USA. Porretta Terme is served by Porretta Terme railway station.

The Limentra di Sambuca (also: Limentra occidentale) is a mountain river in Italy, a right tributary of the Reno. It rises from Monte la Croce in the Apennine Mountains, elevation about 1,319 metres (4,327 ft), and passes through Sambuca Pistoiese. It has a length of 19.4 kilometres (12.1 mi) and flows into the Reno near Ponte della Venturina, near the border between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. Near Pàvana is a dam with a capacity of 900,000 cubic metres (32,000,000 cu ft). The waters are also used for the aqueduct serving Pistoia.

Sambuca Pistoiese is a town and comune of the Province of Pistoia in the Italian region of Tuscany. The comune is in fact constituted by several different villages (frazioni), the most important of which are Pàvana at 491 metres (1,611 ft) and Treppio at 610 to 750 metres (2,000 to 2,460 ft), along the valley of the Limentra di Sambuca and the Limentra orientale, respectively. The nearest railway station is that of Ponte della Venturina, 1.5 kilometres (0.9 mi) from Pàvana.

The Battle of Monte Castello (Italian: Battaglia del Monte Castello; German: Schlacht von Monte Castello; Portuguese: Batalha de Monte Castello; part of Operation Encore) was an engagement that took place from 25 November 1944 to 21 February 1945 during the Italian campaign of World War II. It was fought between the Allied forces advancing into northern Italy and the dug-in German defenders. The battle marked the Brazilian Expeditionary Force's entry into the land war in Europe. Starting in November 1944, fierce combat dragged on for three months, ending on 21 February 1945. Six Allied attacks were mounted against the German forces, four of which were tactical failures.

The Limentra orientale (also: Limentra di Treppio) is a mountain river in Italy, a right tributary of the Reno. It rises from Monte la Croce in the Apennine Mountains. It enters the Metropolitan City of Bologna near Lentula and Treppio. Near Suviana a dam has been built on its course creating one of the largest reservoirs of the Apennines, with a capacity of about 43,850,000 cubic metres (1.549×109 cu ft). It flows into the Reno after 41 kilometres (25 mi), near Riola di Vergato.

Castel d'Aiano (Medial Mountain Bolognese: Castèl d'Ajàn) is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Bologna in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, located in the Apennine mountains about 35 kilometres (22 mi) southwest of Bologna.
