Leslie Vale is a rural residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Kingborough in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) west of the town of Kingston. The 2016 census recorded a population of 351 for the state suburb of Leslie Vale.

The locality is about 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) south-west of the town of Hobart. The 2016 census recorded a population of 726 for the state suburb of Fern Tree.It is an outlying suburb of Hobart. The name Fern Tree is adapted from the common name of the plant Dicksonia antarctica (Tasmanian tree fern), which grows abundantly in the area. Set beneath Mount Wellington, whose summit is at 1270 metres above sea level, Fern Tree is 9 km by road from Hobart's central business district.

Longley is a rural residential locality in the local government area of Kingborough in the Hobart region of Tasmania. It is located about 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) west of the town of Kingston. The 2016 census has a population of 234 for the state suburb of Longley.

Cathedral Rock is a towering dolerite rock formation located in Wellington Park in south-eastern Tasmania.Reaching a height of approximately 880 metres and accessed through a challenging walk, the craggy summit offers expansive views of southern Tasmania, particularly the Huon Valley and the Channel region.Cathedral Rock is a popular destination for recreational hikers and nature lovers. The closest township is Neika and the usual starting point for the walk to the peak is Betts Road on the North West Bay River. During winter months, Cathedral Rock is frequently snow-covered. Cathedral Rock is part of Wellington Park and is reserved under the Wellington Park Act 1993. It is managed by the Wellington Park Management Trust, together with the City Councils of Glenorchy and Hobart, the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and Southern Water. Wellington Park takes its name from Mount Wellington, named after Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, who defeated Napoleon in the Battle of Waterloo. Wellington Park is reserved for the purposes of: "the provision of tourism and recreation; the protection of flora and fauna; the preservation of features of natural beauty or scenic interest; the protection of features of historical, Aboriginal, archaeological, scientific or geomorphological interest; and the protection of water catchment values".

Ridgeway is a rural / residential locality in the local government area (LGA) of Hobart in the Hobart LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) south-west of the town of Hobart. The 2016 census recorded a population of 175 for the state suburb of Ridgeway. It is a suburb of Hobart, located south of Dynnyrne. In Ridgeway there are two plant nurseries (Plants of Tasmania Nursery and Island Bonsai), and a small number of homes. Prior to the 1967 bushfires, Ridgeway was a market garden area with its own school and church. There also used to be another nursery next to Plants of Tasmania.

Wellington Park is a rural locality in the local government areas of Derwent Valley, Hobart, Glenorchy, Huon Valley, and Kingborough in the South-east and Hobart regions of Tasmania. It is located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) west of the Hobart CBD. The 2016 census determined a population of nil for the state suburb of Wellington Park.

Mount Wellington (officially kunanyi / Mount Wellington ()) is a mountain in the southeast of Tasmania, Australia. It is the summit of the Wellington Range and is within Wellington Park reserve. Hobart, Tasmania's capital city, is located at the foot of the mountain. The mountain rises to 1,271 metres (4,170 ft) above sea level and is frequently covered by snow, sometimes even in summer, and the lower slopes are thickly forested, but crisscrossed by many walking tracks and a few fire trails. There is also a sealed narrow road to the summit, about 22 kilometres (14 mi) from Hobart central business district. An enclosed lookout near the summit has views of the city below and to the east, the Derwent estuary, and also glimpses of the World Heritage Area nearly 100 kilometres (62 mi) west. From Hobart, the most distinctive feature of Mount Wellington is the cliff of dolerite columns known as the Organ Pipes.

The Kingborough Sports Centre (KSC), is a multi-purpose sports venue located in the southern Hobart (Tasmania) suburb of Kingston. The centre was opened on 19 May 1979 and since opening has become a vital part of the Kingborough Community. After the centre was opened it became the area's main venue for indoor sports such as volleyball, basketball and netball. In 1983 Australia's National Basketball League expanded in its 5th season to include the newly formed Hobart Devils who chose the Kingborough Sports Centre as their home stadium. The Devils regularly played in front of packed houses at Kingborough despite the team's lack of success and a feature of their games was the court, which like any community based sports centre not only had the outline of the basketball court but players and officials had to contend with the markings from sports such as netball, volleyball and badminton as well. The Devils remained at the 1,800 capacity Kingborough until the end of the 1988 NBL season, during which time it became increasingly obvious that a larger venue would be needed to cater for the increased crowds the NBL was seeing at the time. The problem for the Devils was solved when the 5,400 seat Derwent Entertainment Centre opened in 1989. The Hobart Devils, after a six-year run at the KSC moved 16 km north into the heart of Hobart and the centre reverted to being a community based sports centre.

Kingston High School is a government co-educational comprehensive junior secondary school located in Kingston, a suburb of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Established in 1972, the school caters for approximately 700 students from Years 7 to 10. The school is administered by the Tasmanian Department of Education. In 2019 student enrolments were 643. The school principal is Dr Libby Robinson.The school is a six-stream school, with at least six class groups for each year level at the school.

The electoral division of Nelson is a constituency of the Tasmanian Legislative Council. The division includes many of the suburbs to the south of Hobart, including South Hobart, Sandy Bay, Taroona and Kingston. The division was created in 1999 when the electoral division of Queenborough was renamed in a review of electoral boundaries. The member from 1999 until his retirement in 2019 was independent Jim Wilkinson. The most recent election was in May 2019, when independent candidate Meg Webb was elected.

The Division of Denison was an Australian electoral division in Tasmania, before being replaced by the Division of Clark as part of a 2016–17 redistribution.
