Hernando is a census-designated place in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,054 at the 2010 census. At one time it was a city but it was disincorporated in the 1970s.

Arlington is a former community in Inverness Citrus County, Florida, United States.

Inverness Highlands North is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,401 at the 2010 census, up from 1,470 in 2000.

Citrus Hills is a census-designated place (CDP) in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,470 at the 2010 census, up from 4,029 in 2000. The CDP takes its name from The Villages of Citrus Hills, a master-planned community first developed by Gerald Nash and Sam Tamposi in the 1970s. (Although sharing a similar name with The Villages, the well-known giant Central Florida retirement community, the two developments are not related.)

WINV (1560 AM, "Classic Hits the Fox") was a radio station broadcasting a classic hits music format, simulcasting WXOF 96.3 FM Yankeetown, Florida. Formerly licensed to Beverly Hills, Florida, United States, and originally licensed to Inverness, the station was owned by WGUL-FM, Inc. and featured programming from Citadel Media and Dial Global.WINV went silent on October 9, 2011. On September 4, 2012, the station's owners submitted the license to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for cancellation, saying they had no plans to return the station to the air. The FCC cancelled the station's license and deleted the WINV call sign from the FCC database.

Potts Preserve is an 8,500-acre (34 km2) property protected by the Southwest Florida Water Management District in Inverness, Florida (Citrus County). Wetlands in the preserve "play a role in both the Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes and the Withlacoochee River systems." Biking, birdwatching, camping, horseback riding, boating, fishing, hiking and hunting, are offered in the park.

Inverness is a city and the county seat of Citrus County, Florida, United States. It is near the 10,950-acre (4,430 ha) Flying Eagle Preserve. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,543.

The Citrus County School District is the public school district of Citrus County, Florida. The district serves the cities of Crystal River and Inverness, and communities such as Beverly Hills, Citrus Springs, Floral City, Hernando, Holder, Homosassa, and Lecanto. The district is composed of eleven elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools, a charter school, and two alternative schools.

Citrus High School (CHS) is a public high school in the town of Inverness, Florida, United States. A part of the Citrus County School District, Citrus High currently offers a four-year curriculum in grades 9-12 and currently has an enrollment of 1,420 students. The school was founded in 1911. Citrus High, nicknamed the Hurricanes, was the first of the three high schools in the Citrus County School District, which also includes Crystal River High, in the coastal town of Crystal River and Lecanto High, located in the center of the county. In the 2016–17 school year, Citrus High School started the Academy of Computer Sciences, an academy designed to give students a strong foundation in computer science. Citrus High serves the following communities: Inverness, Floral City, Inverness Highlands North, Inverness Highlands South, and sections of Citrus Hills, Citrus Springs, and Hernando.

Tsala Apopka Lake is a chain of lakes located within a bend in the Withlacoochee River in Citrus County in north central Florida. This area is known historically as the Cove of the Withlacoochee. Tsala Apopka Lake is composed of a number of lakes, swamps and marshes interspersed with islands, with a total open water surface area of about 19,111 acres (77.34 km2). It is spread through an area of about 63,000 acres (250 km2), bounded by State Road 200 to the north, State Road 48 to the south, the Withlacoochee River to the east, and US 41 to the west. About one-quarter of the area is in mesic hammocks or live oak scrub.

The Masonic Temple of Citrus Lodge No. 118, F. and A.M. refers to a historic 3-story building designed by prominent Florida architect Wilbur B. Talley and built in 1910 at the corner of West Main Street (now Old Main Street) and South Pine Avenue in Inverness, Citrus County, Florida. It is also known as Inverness Masonic Temple. As was common with American Masonic buildings of the time, the first floor was used for retail stores, while the second floor was used for professional offices and the third floor was used for the lodge hall and other Masonic uses. Over the years, the second floor also housed the city hall and a movie theater. After repairing the fire damage from a lightning strike in 1963, Citrus Lodge decided to build a new building at 301 Hendrix Avenue and vacated the premises in 1965. The building was then sold to a series of private owners. In 1990 the Board of County Commissioners rented the third floor for a few years. Recent uses include the building management office on the ground floor, bookkeepers, attorneys, insurance agents, therapists, tutor services and an AA Intergroup office on the other floors. In 1989, the Masonic Temple was listed in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press. On October 20, 2000, the City of Inverness placed a commemorative plaque on the building. The building was purchased by the Drywell Group, LLC in 2006 and they proceeded to renovate and restore the interior and exterior. Wood floors and windows were refinished, period furniture, lighting, art, and paint colors were added throughout the building. The exterior brick was re-pointed or painted, windows were repaired and painted, and the metal cornice and Masonic sign were restored. A “history walk” of the building graces the first floor hall and a small exhibit about the building renovation/rehabilitation is on the second floor. During the rehabilitation, an application was submitted to the State of Florida for recognition of the Masonic Temple's historic status and on June 23, 2010, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the building is known as the "Masonic Business Center," and the first floor continues to be used for retail shops, among them a Subway submarine sandwich shop.

The Old Citrus County Courthouse (constructed in 1912) is a historic site in Inverness, Florida located at 1 Courthouse Square. On April 17, 1992, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The building was designed by J. R. MacEachron and Willis R. Biggers. The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum opened in the building in 2000, and is operated by the Citrus County Historical Society. Exhibits focus on local county history. In 1961, scenes from the movie Follow That Dream, starring Elvis Presley, were filmed in the courtroom. In 1970 the courthouse was replaced by the Citrus County Courthouse. In the 1990's the courthouse was beginning to fall into disrepair and plans for its demolition were created. These were stopped by its addition to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. After this, an 8-year restoration project began to restore the old courthouse to its former glory. The courthouse's second floor was restored to its original appearance in 2000. This second-floor restoration relied on the courtroom scenes filmed there in 1961 for Follow That Dream.
