Campo Blenio

The Sosto (2,220.6 m) is a mountain of the Swiss Lepontine Alps, overlooking Olivone in the canton of Ticino. It lies south of the lake of Luzzone and west of the Torrone di Nav.

Olivone was a municipality in the district of Blenio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On 25 January 2005, the cantonal authorities announced that Olivone would merge with Aquila, Campo Blenio, Ghirone and Torre to form a new municipality to be called Blenio. This union was carried through on 22 October 2006.

Blenio is a municipality of the district of Blenio, in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. Blenio was created on 22 October 2006 when it incorporated the formerly autonomous municipalities of Aquila, Campo Blenio, Ghirone, Olivone and Torre of the upper Blenio valley. A legal challenge to the merger was raised by Aquila, but was rejected by the Federal Court on 18 April 2006.

Ghirone was a municipality in the district of Blenio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Pizzo Pianca is a mountain of the Swiss Lepontine Alps, located north of Olivone in the canton of Ticino. On its southern side it overlooks the lake of Luzzone.

Lago di Luzzone is a reservoir in Ticino, Switzerland. The reservoir has a volume of 108 million m³ and a surface area of 1.27 km2 (0.49 sq mi). It is located in the upper Blenio valley, in the municipalities of Ghirone and Aquila. The reservoir is surrounded by peaks of the Adula Alps, some of which rise more than 3,000 meters, and is located at a height of 1,606 meters above sea level. The highest is Piz Terri (3,149 m), on the north-east side of the lake, followed by the Plattenberg (3,041 m), on the east side. The Torrone di Nav (2,832 m) overlooks the lake from the south, while Pizzo Pianca (2,377 m) overlooks the lake from the north. The arch dam Luzzone was completed in 1963. In the years 1997–1998, its height was increased by 17 m. The dam is frequently used by the popular YouTube channel How Ridiculous to perform drop tests, and a Top Gear episode showed an occupied car doing a bungee jump. One wall of the dam currently features the world's highest artificial climbing wall. A German manufacturer of climbing holds installed a line of over 650 artificial holds and bolts. The course covers a vertical distance of 165 meters, going from the base of the dam to the top. The climb must be done as a multi-pitch bolted sport climbing route. Furthermore, the lowest holds were placed several meters above the ground to deter casual visitors from climbing on them.

Lago Retico is a lake in the canton Ticino, Switzerland. Its surface area is 8.5 ha (21 acres).

Aquila is a former municipality in the district of Blenio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Largario is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1207 as Largario. The municipality had 56 inhabitants in 1602, which peaked at 74 and 75 in 1808 and 1850 respectively before dropping again to 53 in 1900. It decreased further to 36 in 1950, 17 in 1980 when it was the least populous municipality in the entire Switzerland, before it increased to 27 in 1990 which only made it the least populous in Ticino. In 2004 the municipality was merged with the other, neighboring municipalities Castro, Corzoneso, Dongio, Leontica, Lottigna, Marolta, Ponto Valentino and Prugiasco to form a new and larger municipality Acquarossa.

Cima di Pinadee is a mountain of the Swiss Lepontine Alps, located east of Olivone in the canton of Ticino. It lies between the Valle di Blenio and the Val di Carassino, north of the Passo di Piotta.

The Torrone di Nav is a mountain of the Swiss Lepontine Alps, located east of Olivone in the canton of Ticino. On its northern side it overlooks the lake of Luzzone.

Castro is a village and former municipality in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It was first recorded in year 1200 as Castri. It had 68 inhabitants in 1567, which increased to 114 in 1808 and 129 in 1850. It then decreased to 97 in 1900, 81 in 1950 and 62 in 1970. In 2000 the population count was back on 81. In 2004 the municipality was merged with the other, neighboring municipalities Corzoneso, Dongio, Largario, Leontica, Lottigna, Marolta, Ponto Valentino and Prugiasco to form a new and larger municipality Acquarossa.
