Ma Tso Lung

Liu Pok (Chinese: 料壆) is a village in Sheung Shui, North District, Hong Kong.

The Frontier Closed Area (Chinese: 邊境禁區), established by the Frontier Closed Area Order, 1951, and 1984 is a regulated border zone in Hong Kong that extended inwards from the border with Mainland China. Established to prevent illegal migrants and other illegal activities from Mainland China and elsewhere by land and sea, the closed area is fenced along its perimeter to serve as a buffer between the closed border and the rest of the territory patrolled and controlled by Hong Kong Police Force and its Marine Region and the Immigration Department at land and sea. Developments are tightly controlled within the area, leading to less construction and causing most of the area to become a natural habitat for animals and plants. For anyone to enter the area, a Closed Area Permit is required from the Hong Kong Police Force, unless crossing the land boundary through the Frontier Closed Area with a valid travel document by land and/or sea.

Tak Yuet Lau (Chinese: 得月樓) is a village in the Lo Wu area of North District, Hong Kong.

Ho Sheung Heung (Chinese: 河上鄉) is an area in Sheung Shui, North District, Hong Kong.

Kwu Tung (Chinese: 古洞站) is a planned underground infill station on the Lok Ma Chau spur line of the East Rail line of the MTR rapid transit network in Hong Kong. The station will be situated near Kwu Tung in North District, New Territories. It is part of the first phase of the Northern Link and act as its eastern terminus when phase 2 is completed, with an expected construction cost of HK$3.5 billion in December 2015.

The Ng Tung River (Chinese: 梧桐河; Hong Kong Hakka: Ng2tung2 Ho2), also known as the River Indus, is a river in the northeast New Territories, Hong Kong. Tributaries of the river include the Tan Shan River (River Jhelum) and Kwan Tei River. It collects other major rivers like the Shek Sheung River (River Sutlej) and Sheung Yue River (River Beas) in Sheung Shui, and finally empties into the Sham Chun River (Shenzhen River).

Lo Wu is the northern terminus of the East Rail line (Kowloon-Canton Railway) of Hong Kong, located in Lo Wu within the Closed Area on Hong Kong's northern frontier. The station serves as a primary checkpoint for rail passengers between Hong Kong and mainland China and vice versa, rather than serving a specific area. It is also the northernmost railway station in Hong Kong.

The Sheung Yue River (Chinese: 雙魚河; Hong Kong Hakka: Sung1ng2 Ho2; also known as the River Beas) is a river in the northern New Territories, Hong Kong. Its sources are near Kai Kung Leng and Ki Lun Shan, where numerous streams flow into the river. It flows through Kwu Tung and Sheung Shui. It joins up with the Shek Sheung River and eventually empties into the Ng Tung River. Beas River Country Club is located near the river. The country club was a venue for the 2008 Olympic Equestrian events.

The Lo Wu Bridge (simplified Chinese: 罗湖桥; traditional Chinese: 羅湖橋) is a footbridge and steel railway truss bridge across Sham Chun River linking Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Due to the course of widening the river section at Lo Wu, it is necessary to reconstruct the Lo Wu railway bridge as its span is not long enough for the widened river section. The old Lo Wu railway bridge has been relocated downstream in September 2003 to facilitate the construction of a new bridge for the widened Shenzhen River Lo Wu section. Owing to its historical value, the old rail bridge will be preserved as a monument on the bank of the Sham Chun River adjacent to the Lo Wu station. The whole bridge was relocated without any change of the existing features, and the shifting of the bridge across the existing railway line was the most difficult part of the operation. The government said damage to the existing bridge structure will be minimal. A smaller truss bridge now carries rail traffic between Lo Wu Control Point/Lo Wu station with Luohu station. The current Lo Wu pedestrian bridge is an enclosed 2-storey walkway and replaced a partially covered pedestrian walkway built in 1985 and another truss bridge so pedestrians need not cross the border over the tracks.

Kwu Tung (Chinese: 古洞) is an area in the northern New Territories, west of Sheung Shui and Fanling, and east of Lok Ma Chau and San Tin, in Hong Kong.

Lo Wu (Chinese: 羅湖) is an area in North District, New Territories, Hong Kong. It lies on the border between Hong Kong and mainland China, specifically the Luohu District of Shenzhen in mainland China. The area is most notable as the location of the most heavily used immigration control point for passengers travelling to and from mainland China. It is where the Lo Wu station is located.

Long Valley (Chinese: 塱原) is a wetland in Sheung Shui of the New Territories in Hong Kong. The wetland was originally formed by the rice paddies between Shek Sheung River and Sheung Yue River. It is the last agricultural wetland in Hong Kong. Long Valley became notable in Hong Kong when the Kowloon–Canton Railway proposed building the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line across it. This proposal aroused great concern from the Conservancy Association, and other Hong Kong environmental groups that the construction would greatly affect the habitats of the wetland, including waterfowl and water levels. The Conservancy Association launched the "Save Long Valley" campaign and wrote many letters to various Hong Kong government officials urging them to scrap the proposed spur line. Several methods thereafter proposed included a flyover or a tunnel under the wetland. The KCR initially adopted a hostile, non-conciliatory attitude towards environmentalist demands and eventually changed course after failing to get a permit from the Environmental Protection Department. It was finally decided to tunnel under the wetland at great cost.During the process of public discussion, private land owners strongly criticized environmental groups, whom they feared could threaten their personal interests. Local farmers and tenants, however, feared for the loss of their own means of income and lifestyle, despite their age.Subsequent to the revised proposal several key projects were initiated to improve the quality of Long Valley. Among these The Conservancy Association (https://www.cahk.org.hk/) began a sustainable development project that would unify social, economic and environmental concerns. These included helping farmers shift from traditional farming practices to organic farming, organizing ecotours to educate the public about Long Valley and restoring abandoned lands to various types of wetlands.
