Skelsmergh and Scalthwaiterigg

Skelsmergh is a small village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Skelsmergh and Scalthwaiterigg, in South Lakeland in rural Cumbria, England, about 4 miles (6.4 km) north of Kendal, on the A6 road. St. John the Baptist Church at Skelsmergh dates from about 1871 and was built by Joseph Bintley, a Westmorland architect. Skelsmergh Hall incorporates a pele tower, probably built in 1425, with late 16th century and early 17th century additions. The tower is now an outbuilding. The River Sprint runs alongside the village and is "one of the quietest of the Lake District's valleys".Skelsmergh had a population of 303 according to the 2011 census. When comparing this to the total population of the village 50 years earlier, in 1961, it is clear that the population has seen an increase from 250 in 1961.An entry by John Bartholomew states that "Skelsmergh, township, in par. and 2 miles NE. of Kendal, Westmorland, 2093 ac., pop. 367."From 1866 Skelsmergh was a civil parish in its own right until it was abolished on 1 April 2015 and merged with Scalthwaiterigg to form "Skelsmergh and Scalthwaiterigg".Skelsmergh had a population of 303 according to the 2011 census. It previously had a joint parish council with the adjacent parish of Scalthwaiterigg.

Scalthwaiterigg is a former civil parish, now in the parish of Skelsmergh and Scalthwaiterigg, in the Westmorland and Furness district, in the ceremonial county of Cumbria, England, immediately north east of Kendal. It previously had a joint parish council with the adjacent parish of Skelsmergh. In 2001 it had a population of 104.There were three listed buildings or structures in the parish: the 16th-century farmhouse Benson Hall and two bridges.

The River Mint is a river in Cumbria, England. The Mint starts life at Whelpside at the confluence of Bannisdale Beck, running south-east from Bannisdale Head, and a smaller stream draining a group of small valleys from headwaters in The Forest, Combs Hollow and Mabbin Crag. The river runs south to Patton Bridge, picking up a series of smaller tributaries, before turning south west, continuing through the hamlet of Meal Bank. The Mint drains into the River Kent between Mintsfeet and Kentrigg just north of Kendal.

South Westmorland was a rural district in Westmorland, England from 1894 to 1974. It saw various boundary changes during its existence, particularly in 1935, when it absorbed Kirkby Lonsdale urban district, whilst parts merged with Ambleside and Grasmere Urban Districts to form Lakes Urban District at the same time. The district was abolished in 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, with the area becoming part of the South Lakeland district of Cumbria.

Kentrigg is a northern suburb of Kendal, Cumbria, England. By road, Kentrigg is located 1.2 miles (1.9 km) north of the centre of Kendal and 1.4 miles (2.3 km) southeast of Burneside. It contains the Carus Green Golf Club, which separates it from Burneside just to the northwest. Across the River Kent to the east is the Shap Road Industrial Estate, north of the district of Mintsfeet and the Mintsfeet Industrial Estate which marks the southeastern side of Kentrigg. The area contains a number of cottages which are let out to tourists. Helsfell Hall was the seat of the Briggs family which dominated the area in the 16th and 17th centuries up to the English Civil War. The old hall today is a Grade II listed building. 109 Burneside Road, also known as Aikrigg End, is a Grade II listed building, dated to the 18th and early 19th century. Kendal Fell lies to west of Kentrigg.

The Castle Dairy is a medieval building located in Kendal, Cumbria. The name implies a connection to Kendal Castle and it is possibly the town's oldest continuously inhabited structure.A Grade I listed building, it is now a restaurant. The building is located on the north side of Wildman Street, near to Stramongate Bridge, to which it may also have some connection.

St George's Church is in Castle Street, Kendal, Cumbria, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Kendal, the archdeaconry of Westmorland and Furness, and the diocese of Carlisle. Its benefice is united with those of St Oswald, Burneside, St John, Grayrigg, St Mary, Longsleddale, St Thomas, Selside, and St John the Baptist, Skelsmergh, to form the Beacon Team Mission Community. It was a Commissioners' church, having received a grant towards its construction from the Church Building Commission.

Kendal Museum is a local museum in Kendal, Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District in northwest England. It was founded in 1796 and includes collections of local archaeology, history, and geology, and a natural history collection from around the globe. The museum also features a changing programme of temporary exhibitions and displays, events, walks, and talks. The museum has a large natural history taxidermy collection, and features a stuffed polar bear and a model of a dodo. The museum is open three days a week from Thursday to Saturday, with a charge of £5 (adults) and £2 (5-18's) for admission, with Under 5's going free. The opening hours are 9.30am to 4.45pm with last entry at 4pm. In April 2011, Kendal Museum achieved the Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme assessment, awarded by Visit England.Kendal Museum is managed by Kendal College on behalf of South Lakeland District Council. and is part of the Arts and Media campus at the North End of Kendal.

Kendal Castle is a medieval fortification to the east of the town of Kendal, Cumbria, in northern England. The castle, which is atop a glacial drumlin, was built in the 13th century as the Caput baroniae for the Barony of Kendal. By the 15th century, the Parr family owned the castle.

Whitwell and Selside is a former civil parish, now part of the parish of Selside and Fawcett Forest, in the Westmorland and Furness district, in the ceremonial county of Cumbria, England. It did not have a parish council but a parish meeting. The neighbouring parishes were Whinfell to the east, Skelsmergh and Strickland Roger to the south west, Kentmere and Longsleddale to the west and Shap Rural to the north. The main settlement was the village of Selside. In 2001 the parish had a population of 198. At the 2011 census Whitwell and Selside was grouped with both Fawcett Forest and Longsleddale giving a total population of 296.There were 14 listed buildings or structures in the parish, including the grade II*, 14th-century, Selside Hall.Whitwell and Selside was a township until 1866 when it became a separate civil parish. On 1 April 2020 the parish was abolished and merged with Fawcett Forest to form "Selside and Fawcett Forest".
