Río Piedras is a rapid transit station in the San Juan Metropolitan Area, Puerto Rico. It is located between Cupey and Universidad stations on the only line of the Tren Urbano system, in the downtown area of Río Piedras (Río Piedras Pueblo), in the city of San Juan. The station is named after Río Piedras where it is located, itself named after the Piedras River which crosses the area. The trial service ran in 2004, however, the regular service only started on 6 June 2005.

The Gay Pride Community Building (Spanish: Edificio Comunidad de Orgullo Gay de Puerto Rico), also known as Casa Orgullo ("Pride House"), is a historic site and former LGBT community center located in Río Piedras Pueblo (downtown Río Piedras) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.The building, a two-story reinforced concrete, Mediterranean Revival apartment house, first served as a meeting hall for the first gay/lesbian organization established in Puerto Rico, founded in 1974 as Comunidad de Orgullo Gay (Gay Pride Community). Inspired by the 1969 Stonewall Revolt, this was the first organized attempt to confront social, political and legal discrimination against the local LGBTQ community by pioneering resistance to discrimination through political action, educational programs, public awareness and social support to the community.Although Comunidad de Orgullo Gay disbanded in 1976, Casa Orgullo remains a symbol of gay rights in Puerto Rico, and it is considered a social historic site due to its importance in spearheading the gay liberation movement in the island. Forty years later, the building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 2016.The building is not open to the public, but it hosts a mural titled Flor de Parcha which depicts passion fruit flowers and can be appreciated from the street.

Santa Rita is one of the 4 subbarrios of Hato Rey Sur, itself one of 18 barrios of the municipality of San Juan, Puerto Rico.The office of Amnesty International in Puerto Rico is located in Santa Rita.

Río Piedras is a populous district of San Juan, and former town and municipality of Puerto Rico, which was merged with the municipality of San Juan in 1951. The district today is composed of various barrios (these are the primary legal divisions of municipalities in Puerto Rico) such as Pueblo and Universidad. The historic town was founded in 1714 as El Roble, it was given municipality rights in 1823, and since 1903 it has been the home of the University of Puerto Rico's main campus, earning the popular name of Ciudad Universitaria (similar to college town) today. The downtown and historic center of Río Piedras is officially known as the Pueblo barrio of the municipality of San Juan.

Río Piedras Antiguo is one of the 6 subbarrios of Pueblo, a barrio in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was, at one time, a subdivision of Río Piedras, a former municipality of Puerto Rico.

The University High School, (Spanish: Escuela Secundaria de la Universidad de Puerto Rico) commonly referred to by its initials "UHS", in San Juan, Puerto Rico is a college preparatory laboratory high school operated by the Faculty of Education of the University of Puerto Rico. Located on the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, it provides education to approximately 514 students from 7th to 12th grade.

The Humberto Vidal explosion (sometimes also referred to as the Río Piedras explosion) was a gas explosion that occurred on November 21, 1996 at the Humberto Vidal shoe store in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. The explosion killed 33 and wounded 69 others when the building collapsed. It is one of the deadliest disasters to have occurred on the island.

Ubarri is a subbarrio, a legal subdivision of Pueblo, a barrio in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was, at one time, a subdivision of Río Piedras, a former municipality of Puerto Rico.

The Quadrangle (Spanish: El Cuadrángulo) is the heart and main quadrangle of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras. Together with the Roosevelt Tower (La Torre), it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the University of Puerto Rico Tower and The Quadrangle, for its unique history which represents the union between Puerto Rican architecture with the Jeffersonian Neoclassical style often seen in American universities. It is famous for its lines of Puerto Rican royal palm (Roystonea borinquena) or palma real and the architecture of its surrounding buildings.The Quadrangle was designed by Puerto Rican architect Rafael Carmoega. The University of Puerto Rico Theater was first built on its eastern edge in 1939. The Quadrangle is the largest courtyard space in the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras campus. It is surrounding by buildings currently used by the University of Puerto Rico Administration and the College of Humanities. Its two most notable landmarks are the University Tower located on the western edge of the quad, and the University of Puerto Rico Theater, also known as the Roosevelt Theater, on its eastern edge. These buildings have an architectural style combining Spanish Revival styles such as Andalusian/Spanish Gothic and Baroque Revival. There is also a Banco Popular branch office and additional auditoriums.

Roosevelt Tower (officially: Franklin Delano Roosevelt Tower, Spanish: Torre Franklin Delano Roosevelt), more popularly known as La Torre, is a 173.54 feet (52.89 m) clock tower located above the main entrance to the Baldorioty de Castro Building in the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. The tower is also referred to as El Faro (The Lighthouse) and it is considered a symbol of the University of Puerto Rico and of higher education in Puerto Rico. The tower, along with the main historic quadrangle in campus, have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984.

The University of Puerto Rico (Spanish: Universidad de Puerto Rico, UPR) is the main public university system in the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. It is a government-owned corporation with 11 campuses and approximately 44,200 students and approximately 4,450 faculty members. UPR has the largest and most diverse academic offerings in the commonwealth, with 472 academic programs of which 32 lead to a doctorate.

The University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus (Spanish: Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras; UPR-RP, or informally La IUPI) is a public land-grant research university in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is the largest campus in the University of Puerto Rico system in terms of student population and it was Puerto Rico's first public university campus.The university serves more than 18,000 students, 20% of whom are graduate students, and grants an average of over 3,000 degrees a year. Its academic offerings range from the bachelor to the doctoral level with 70 undergraduate programs and 19 graduate degrees including 71 specializations in the basic disciplines and professional fields. UPR‐RP has consistently granted the largest number of doctorate degrees to Hispanic students under the United States jurisdiction.
