Shapla Square

The Shapla Square protests also known as Operation Shapla or Operation Flash Out by security forces refers to the protests, and subsequent shootings, of 5 and 6 May 2013 at Shapla Square located in the Motijheel district, the main financial area of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The protests were organized by the Islamist pressure group, Hefazat-e Islam, who were demanding the enactment of a blasphemy law. The government responded to the protests by cracking down on the protesters using a combined force drawn from the police, Rapid Action Battalion and paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh to drive the protesters out of Shapla Square.Following the events at Motijheel, protests in other parts of the country also broke out, during which 27 people died, although different sources report casualty numbers ranging from 20 to 61. The opposition party BNP initially claimed thousands of Hefazat activists were killed during the operation, but this was disputed by the government. Human Rights Watch and other human rights organizations put the total death toll at above 50. Initial attempts to dispute the chain of events were thwarted due to the government closure of two television channels, Diganta Television and Islamic TV, which were live telecasting the operation.

Bangladesh Bank Building is a high-rise building located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is located in Motijheel, the central business district. It rises to a height of 115 metres (377 ft) and has 31 floors. It houses the headquarters of Bangladesh Bank. The building is one of the earliest high-rise in the city. It was the tallest building in Bangladesh for 27 years. Built in 1985, it was the tallest building in Bangladesh until 2012, when City Centre Dhaka Topped-out at 171 metres (561 ft). Currently, it is the fourth tallest building in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Bank (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংক) is the central bank of Bangladesh and is a member of the Asian Clearing Union. It is fully owned by the Government of Bangladesh. The bank is active in developing green banking. and financial inclusion policy and is an important member of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion. Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), a department of Bangladesh Bank, is a member FIU of the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units. Bangladesh Bank is the first central bank in the world to introduce a dedicated hotline (16236) for people to complain about any banking-related problem. Moreover, the organization is the first central bank in the world to issue a "Green Banking Policy". To acknowledge this contribution, then-governor Dr. Atiur Rahman was given the title 'Green Governor' at the 2012 United Nations Climate Change Conference, which was held at the Qatar National Convention Centre in Doha.

Dilkusha is the commercial cannabis production centre of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It is a part of the larger Motijheel area in the city. Historically, the Nawabs of Dhaka used to consume hashish here in the 19th and early 20th century. Dilkusha was the name of that palace.

Motijheel (Bengali: মতিঝিল, romanised: Motijhil) is an elevated metro station of the Dhaka Metro Rail's MRT Line 6. This station is located in the area of Dilkusha towards Motijheel. It commenced operations on 5 November 2023.

The Dilkusha Bhulbhulaiya Garden Tower (Bengali: দিলকুশা ভুলভুলাইয়া গার্ডেন টাওয়ার) is a historic garden tower located within the former Dilkusha Garden in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The site, originally developed in the 19th century by the Nawab family of Dhaka, featured a distinctive labyrinth or bhulbhulaiya of trees planted around the central tower. It served as a leisure and recreation spot where the Nawab family and guests played hide-and-seek.

Notre Dame University Bangladesh or NDUB (Bengali: নটর ডেম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় বাংলাদেশ) is a private Catholic university in Bangladesh. Located in Motijheel, Dhaka, the university was founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross in 2013. After receiving approval from the Ministry of Education, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and University Grants Commission (UGC), Notre Dame University Bangladesh commenced its academic activities in the fall of 2014.

Modhumita is a movie theater located in Motijheel, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Modhumita Movies, one of the oldest movie theaters in the country, was closed on 17 March 2020 for COVID-19 epidemic, but reopened on 15 October 2021.

Red Crescent Rupayan Tower (known as Red Crescent Tower) is a 45-storey 160 metres (520 ft) skyscraper currently under construction in the city of Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Notre Dame College, Dhaka (Bengali: নটর ডেম কলেজ, ঢাকা), also known as NDC, is a Catholic higher secondary school (in the Indian subcontinent, as in the United Kingdom, higher secondary schools comprising the 11th and 12th years of education are often referred to as colleges) as well as a degree college affiliated to the National University. It is one of the oldest educational institutions in Dhaka, Bangladesh, established in 1949. This institution is administered by the Congregation of Holy Cross, Society of Priests. The college also offers three years of degree program, Bachelor of Arts (BA Pass Course) and Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSS Pass Course). In 2019, the institution celebrated its 70th anniversary.

The Bangabhaban (Bengali: বঙ্গভবন Bôngobhôbôn, lit. House of Bengal) is the official residence and principal workplace of the president of Bangladesh, located on Bangabhaban Road, and short road connecting Dilkusha Avenue, Dhaka. It is surrounded by the Bangabhaban Gardens (formerly Nawab's Dilkusha Gardens). The site hosted the Dilkusha Government House during British rule which was used by the viceroy of India and the governor of Bengal. The house was the official governor's residence of East Pakistan after the creation of Pakistan. President Abu Sayeed Chowdhury became the first Bangladeshi president to reside there after taking oath on 12 January 1971. The President Guard Regiment unit is responsible for the palace's security.
