Hawick ( HOYK; Scots: Haaick; Scottish Gaelic: Hamhaig) is a town in the Scottish Borders council area and historic county of Roxburghshire in the east Southern Uplands of Scotland. It is 10 miles (16.1 km) south-west of Jedburgh and 8.9 miles (14.3 km) south-south-east of Selkirk. It is one of the furthest towns from the sea in Scotland, in the heart of Teviotdale, and is the biggest town in Roxburghshire. The town is at the confluence of the Slitrig Water with the River Teviot. The town was formally established in the 16th century, but was previously the site of historic settlement going back hundreds of years. By the late 17th century, the town began to grow significantly, especially during the Industrial Revolution and Victorian era as a centre for the production of textiles, with a focus on knitting and weaving, involving materials such as tweed and cashmere. By the late 20th century, textile production had declined but the town remains an important regional centre for shopping, tourism and services. Hawick's architecture is distinctive in that it has many sandstone buildings with slate roofs. The town has several museums, parks and heritage sites. The town hosts the annual Alchemy Film and Moving Image Festival.

The Borders distillery, is a malt whisky, gin and vodka production facility in the Scottish Borders town of Hawick. The distillery produces malt whisky, William Kerrs Gin. and vodka and has a visitor centre on Commercial Road.

Hawick Library is housed in the building built in 1904 in Hawick and it was one of the many libraries funded by Andrew Carnegie. The library is a Category B listed building. The library, designed by J N Scott and Alexander Lorne Campbell, is a 2-storey, rectangular-plan Free Style library with a prominent corner entrance tower and round-arched gables. The library is described as "a good example of early-20th-century civic architecture."

Slitrig Water (archaic Scots: Slitterick Waiter; current Southern Scots: Slitrig Witter), also known as the River Slitrig, is a river in the Scottish Borders. It is a tributary of the River Teviot.

Hawick railway station served the town of Hawick, Scottish Borders, Scotland from 1849 to 1969 on the Waverley Route. It has been proposed that it could re-open as an extension to the Borders Railway, and a feasibility study is currently underway.

Hawick High School is a non-denominational secondary school in Hawick, in the Scottish Borders. As well as serving the town, it also takes in pupils from as far away as Newcastleton. It is the second school in Scotland (after Kilmarnock Academy) to have educated two Nobel laureates: Angus Deaton and Richard Henderson. Hawick High School is part of the Hawick cluster of schools including Burnfoot Community School, Denholm Primary School (in the Village of Denholm), Drumlanrig St Cuthberts Primary School, Newcastleton Primary School (in the village of Newcastleton), Stirches Primary School, Trinity Primary School and Wilton Primary School.

Stirches is an area of Hawick in the Scottish Borders, mostly consisting of ex-council housing built in 1973. It is often considered to be one of the more desirable housing schemes in the town.

Wilton Dean is a village in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland, on the Cala Burn, and close to the River Teviot. Along with Stirches and Burnfoot, Scottish Borders, Wilton Dean is now often considered to be a suburb of Hawick which is situated very close to the village.

Burnfoot (Scottish Gaelic: Bun na h-Aibhne, Scots: Burnfit) is a housing estate just east of the A7, in the northern part of Hawick, by the Boonraw Burn, in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland. Wilton Dean and Stirches were also villages surrounding Hawick. Burnfoot was built as a council estate between the 1950s and 1970s and is now mostly owned by the Scottish Borders Housing Association and Waverley Housing, two social landlords in the Borders. It is the poorest part of Hawick, with relatively high rates of social deprivation in several areas, especially around Wilson drive and the Meadows, according to the 2001 census. Like many such areas in Scotland, it also has more than its fair share of antisocial behaviour, with many incidents around the Kenilworth Avenue shops. However, its primary school has won praise for its teaching and attitude to various issues in the past. Other places nearby include Appletreehall, Burnhead, Burnhead Tower, Kirkton, and Galalaw.

Mansfield Park is a rugby union ground in Hawick, Scotland, with a capacity of approximately 5,000. It is the home of Hawick Rugby Football Club, who currently play in the Scottish Premiership and Border League. It became the home ground of Hawick Football Club in 1888, with the club relocating to Mansfield Park two years after being admitted into the Scottish Football Union in 1886. The grandstand at Mansfield Park holds 1,400 spectators and is the biggest rugby club stand in the Borders. In the early days of Hawick Rugby Club, crowds of four or six thousand were common, and ten thousand would come to watch overseas touring teams. In recent years two thousand or more might attend on three or four games each season, including the sevens in April. Facing the grandstand is a steep natural banking, south facing, which attracts many spectators on a sunny sports day. The club rooms have modern bar facilities and a function hall. The Pringle Lounge holds many of the club trophies.
