Austerfield

Newington is a hamlet in the Bassetlaw district of northern Nottinghamshire, England. It is 138 miles (222 km) north west of London, 34 miles (55 km) north of the county town and city of Nottingham, and 1 mile (1.6 km) north east of the nearest town Bawtry. It is in the civil parish of Misson.

Bawtry railway station was situated to the east of the town of Bawtry, South Yorkshire, England on the Great Northern Railway main line between Retford and Doncaster.

Bawtry Wharf was a small Medieval port in the town of Bawtry, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The port operated from a wharf on the River Idle, a small body of water that flowed eastwards inland from Bawtry to the River Trent, and was navigable to sailing ships. Bawtry Wharf flourished as a port from the 12th century until the middle of the 19th century. Whilst the port was in a decline by the early 19th century, the building of a railway viaduct near the town necessitated diverting the River Idle which isolated the port from the main river stem, and the site silted up after losing its water. Daniel Defoe described Bawtry port as "the centre of exportation for all of the country."

Bawtry is a market town and civil parish in the City of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. It lies 8 miles (13 km) south-east of Doncaster, 10 miles (16 km) west of Gainsborough and 8 miles (13 km) north-west of Retford, on the border with Nottinghamshire and close to Lincolnshire. The town is historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. Its population of 3,204 in the 2001 UK census increased to 3,573 in 2011, and was put at 3,519 in 2019. Nearby settlements include Austerfield, Everton, Scrooby, Blyth, Bircotes and Tickhill.

In 2001, an area of residential land in Bawtry, South Yorkshire, England was found to contain hazardous by-products from the manufacture of coal gas. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, decontamination was held to be the responsibility of National Grid Gas (NGG), even though the negligence may have dated back before the 1948 nationalisation. This decision could have left NGG liable for thousands of similar cases, and would have discouraged beneficial development of brownfield sites. On appeal, the House of Lords ruled that NGG did not knowingly permit the pollution, and therefore could not be held accountable.

The River Ryton is a tributary of the River Idle. It rises close to the Chesterfield Canal near Kiveton Park, and is joined by a series of tributaries near Lindrick Common in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire, England. Most of its course is in Nottinghamshire, flowing through the town of Worksop. It meanders northwards to join the River Idle near the town of Bawtry on the South Yorkshire-Nottinghamshire border. While much of its route is rural, its course through Worksop is man made, a result of development and milling. It used to flow through Scrooby, where there was a mill, but was diverted northwards in the 1960s. It supplies water to the Chesterfield Canal through two feeders, and a number of the bridges which cross it are of interest architecturally, which has resulted in them becoming Listed structures. The water quality of the river is moderate, as a considerable proportion of the total flow is supplied by the processed water from sewage treatment works. Despite this, there are significant populations of fish in the river, and it is used for organised angling.

Rossington & Bawtry—consisting of Austerfield, Bawtry and Rossington—is one of 21 electoral wards in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. It forms part of the Don Valley parliamentary constituency. It elects 3 councillors. In 2011 it had a population of 17,646. The ward was formed in 2015.

The Hospital of St Mary Magdalene, Bawtry was a charity established in Bawtry in the thirteenth century. The surviving chapel building is now a masonic lodge and Grade II listed.

Royal Air Force Bawtry or more simply RAF Bawtry is a former Royal Air Force station located at Bawtry Hall in Bawtry, South Yorkshire, England and was No. 1 Group RAF Bomber Command headquarters and administration unit during and following the Second World War. The site is currently being used as a Luxury Wedding Venue, working with the Crown Hotel in Bawtry

Scrooby was a railway station on the Great Northern Railway running between Retford and Doncaster. The station served the small village of Scrooby until closed in 1931, though an excursion stopped in 1938. Sunday trains ended in 1924. In 1897 it had a booking office, waiting room, stationmaster's house, signal box and 5 passenger trains a day each way, but no goods facilities. About 1978 the signal box was replaced by Doncaster power box. The area was also famous for the water troughs on the line from about 1903 to about 1969.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport (IATA: DSA, ICAO: EGCN), formerly named and commonly referred to as Robin Hood Airport, was an international airport in Finningley near Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England, in operation between 2005 and 2022. The site lies 6 mi (10 km) south-east of the centre of Doncaster and 19 mi (31 km) east of Sheffield. It opened to passengers in 2005, operated by Peel Airports, a division of the Peel Group. The airport had a CAA Public Use Aerodrome Licence that allowed flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction. It had 1.22 million passengers in 2018. The airport's owners said in 2022 that it was no longer commercially viable, and all operations ceased after the last inbound flight on 4 November 2022.
