Colyton railway station

Umbourne Brook is a watercourse in Devon, England. In rises south-east of Upottery and runs past the villages of Widworthy and Wilmington then joins the River Coly at Colyton. The Coly joins the River Axe which discharges into the English Channel between Seaton and Axmouth.Tristram Risdon, writing in c. 1620 called the stream the little river Womborne, and Richard Polwhele, 1797, referred to it as The Omber or Wombern. The name has the same derivation as Wimborne in Dorset, from Old English wimm meaning a meadow. The stream gives its name to Womberford, a ford at a now-lost location in the parish of Cotleigh.

Great House on South Street in the town of Colyton, Devon, is the remnant of an historic Elizabethan mansion house built by the Yonge family, originally prominent wool merchants in the town, later Yonge baronets. It is a grade II* listed building.

Colcombe Castle was a castle or fortified house situated about a 0.5 mi (0.80 km) north of the town of Colyton in East Devon. It was a seat of the Courtenay family, Earls of Devon, whose principal seat was Tiverton Castle, about 22 miles (35 km) to the north west. It was used as his seat by Thomas de Courtenay, 5th Earl of Devon (d. 1458) while his widowed mother occupied Tiverton Castle as her dower house. Its position near to Shute, the seat of William Bonville, 1st Baron Bonville (1392–1461), the arch-enemy of the 5th Earl, led to some serious territorial battles between the two families, culminating in the Battle of Clyst Heath of 1455.

Colyton is a town in Devon, England. It is located within the East Devon local authority area, the river River Coly runs through it. It is 3 miles (5 km) from Seaton and 6 miles (10 km) from Axminster. Its population in 1991 was 2,783, reducing to 2,105 at the 2011 Census. Colyton is a major part of the Coly Valley electoral ward. The ward population at the above census was 4,493.

Colyford railway station, and its successor the Colyford tram stop, serve the village of Colyford in Devon, England. It was open as a railway station, on the Seaton branch line, between 1868 and 1966, and has been open as a tram stop, on the Seaton Tramway, since 1971. It is located on the eastern side of the village of Colyford, adjacent to the White Hart Inn, where the line crosses the A3052 road on a level crossing.

Colyford is a village in East Devon, England situated midway between Lyme Regis and Sidmouth on the A3052 road. To the north the village borders the town of Colyton and lies within the latter's civil parish boundaries. To the south is the seaside resort town of Seaton, separated from Colyford by the Seaton Wetlands, a series of nature reserves flanking the estuary of the River Axe. Colyford lies on the River Coly, which flows into the River Axe immediately to the east of the village.Colyford was formerly an Ancient Borough of long-standing and still elects a Mayor.

St Michael's Church is a Church of England church in Colyford, Devon, England. Built in 1888–89, St Michael's has been Grade II listed since 1984. Today it forms one of five churches of the Colyton Parish and Holyford Mission Community.

Colyton Grammar School (commonly abbreviated to 'CGS') is a co-educational grammar school (and Academy) located in the village of Colyford in East Devon, England that caters for pupils aged 11 to 18. The school has been classified by Ofsted as 'Outstanding' in three successive reports. As of 2023 it was ranked by The Sunday Times as the ninth best state school in the country, and the second best in the South West. Founded by local merchants in 1546, the school is situated on an 18-acre site near the Devon coast.

Whitford is a village near Axminster in East Devon. It is situated on the western bank of the River Axe, which is crossed via a small bridge with a weir under it on a lane that joins the A358 road at Musbury. The West of England Main Line runs through a cutting close to the village, which is four miles north of the Jurassic Coast at Seaton. The village has a church, St Mary at the Cross, a village hall, and some attractive thatched cottages and is within the East Devon AONB.

The River Coly is a 13-kilometre (8.1 mi) long river in the county of Devon, in the south-west of England. It rises in several streams in the north of the parish of Farway. It then flows south through Farway village before turning east and flowing through the town of Colyton, where it is joined by the Umborne Brook. Below Colyton the Coly turns south again and flows through the village of Colyford, shortly after which it joins the River Axe at the landward end of the latter's estuary.

The Seaton Tramway is a 2 ft 9 in (838 mm) narrow gauge electric tramway in the East Devon district of South West England. The 3-mile (4.8 km) route runs alongside the Axe Estuary and the River Coly, running between the coastal resort of Seaton, the village of Colyford, and the ancient town of Colyton. For much of its route, it operates between the estuary and the Seaton Wetlands nature reserves, offering views of the wildlife of both.The tramway operates over part of the former Seaton Branch Line, which closed in March 1966. It was established in 1970 by Claude Lane, founder of Modern Electric Tramways Ltd, which had previously operated in Eastbourne between 1954 and 1969. Fourteen tramcars are part of the visitor attraction, which sees over 100,000 visitors per year. All of the tramcars are based on classic British designs, and vary in size between half-scale (1:2) and two thirds-scale (2:3). Most were built from scratch by Claude Lane and/or his successor Allan Gardner, but three were rebuilt from full-size cars which originally ran in London, Bournemouth and Exeter.

St Mary at the Cross is a Church of England church in Whitford, Devon, England. It was built in 1908 and remains active as part of the Five Alive Mission Community.
