Arnfield Reservoir

Arnfield is an area of Derbyshire, England. It is located on the north side of Tintwistle (where the population is included), adjacent to the Arnfield Reservoir.

Swallows Wood is a nature reserve near Hollingworth, Tameside, straddling the border between Greater Manchester and north Derbyshire. The 60-acre (0.24 km2) reserve, which contains semi-natural woodlands, meadows, ponds and marsh areas, is owned by United Utilities who are responsible for its management. The site was formerly occupied by the Hollingworth and Waste Lodge reservoirs; these were demolished in 1987, and the nature reserve was installed in their place. Arnfield Reservoir, the lowest of the Longdendale Chain reservoirs, is nearby. The route of the proposed Longdendale Bypass would pass through the nature reserve and there is an ongoing campaign to save the wood. Although the bypass has been threatening the wood for nearly 30 years Tameside Council have recently committed to planting 10,000 managed trees, in an attempt to move the woodland gradually away from the bypass route.The wood is on the fringes of the Peak District National Park; many walkers enjoy the area as the views over the woods and moorland are particularly impressive. The area is named after former landowner John Swallow.

Hollingworth Reservoir is a former reservoir near Hollingworth, Tameside, Greater Manchester. The reservoir straddles the Greater Manchester–Derbyshire border. It was constructed in 1854 as part of the Longdendale Chain, but was abandoned in 1987 and now forms part of the Swallows Wood nature reserve.

Tintwistle ( TIN-səl) is a village and civil parish in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, England, which had a population of 1,400 at the 2011 census. The village is just north of Glossop at the lower end of Longdendale Valley. Tintwistle, like nearby Crowden and Woodhead, lies within the historic county boundaries of Cheshire.

Tintwistle Rural District was a local government district in north east Cheshire, England from 1894 to 1974.It was created a rural district by the Local Government Act 1894 from the part of the Ashton-under-Lyne rural sanitary district which was in Cheshire. It consisted of the civil parishes of: Tintwistle Hattersley (until 1936) Matley (until 1936)Hattersley and Matley formed an exclave of the district. They were abolished in 1936 and their area transferred to the Municipal Borough of Hyde, the Municipal Borough of Dukinfield, Longendale Urban District and the Municipal Borough of Stalybridge.In 1974 the district was abolished. At that time, much of north east Cheshire became part of Greater Manchester. Instead of becoming part of that county, or forming an exclave of Cheshire, Tintwistle became part of the High Peak district of Derbyshire.

Hollingworth is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside, in Greater Manchester, England. It is about 11 miles (19 km) east of Manchester on the Derbyshire border near Glossop. Historically part of Cheshire, it gave its name to a family who owned much of the surrounding area from before the time of the Norman conquest.

Peter Street and Brosscroft is an area in Derbyshire, England. It is part of Hadfield (where the population can be found), located on the north-east side. It is situated on the boundary of the Peak District National Park and as such is ideal for outdoor recreation activities including walking, cycling and watersports. It is within a stone's throw of the Park boundary, within two minutes walk (or cycle) of the Longdendale Trail and five minutes walk of the Trans Pennine Trail. The nearest of four linked reservoirs has been used for watersports in the summer, and the next reservoir has a resident sailing club. It is less than five minutes drive (ten minutes walk) to the railway station and a similar distance to the A628 trans-pennine trunk road. Residents thus enjoy a rural lifestyle but with the additional benefits of good east–west road links (to South Yorkshire/M1 and Manchester/M6) and a direct rail link to Manchester Piccadilly and thence to the Airport.

Higher Dinting is a village in Glossopdale, Derbyshire, England. The village is near Glossop, Dinting, and Dinting Vale; the village falls within the Simmondley ward of the High Peak Council. Higher Dinting was the site of the Dinting Railway Museum.Nicholas Garlick was born in Higher Dinting in 1555 and was executed at Derby in July 1588 for being a Catholic priest. The Padley Martyrs are still commemorated every July at Padley chapel. A memorial was placed in the vicarage garden in Higher Dinting.

Hadfield is a town in the High Peak of Derbyshire, England, with a population at the 2021 Census of 6,763. It lies on the south side of the River Etherow, near to the border with Greater Manchester, at the western edge of the Peak District close to Glossop.

Hadfield railway station serves the Peak District town of Hadfield in Derbyshire, England. The station is one of the twin termini at the Derbyshire end of the Manchester-Glossop Line, the other being Glossop. It was opened by the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway in 1844. The line formerly continued east of Hadfield to Penistone and Sheffield via the Woodhead Tunnel. Passenger trains on the Woodhead Line were withdrawn east of Hadfield on 5 January 1970, followed by complete closure in 1981. The tracks were lifted several years later, but the trackbed is still visible and has been partly adapted as a footpath. Since the end of through passenger services to Penistone and Sheffield, only the former eastbound platform has been used and the section westwards to the junction at Dinting is now single track. Hadfield is the eastern terminus for local trains to/from Manchester Piccadilly. From 1954 until 1984 the station was served by Class 506 electric multiple units (EMUs), latterly the only British Rail EMUs capable of operating on the Woodhead Line's non-standard 1,500 V DC electric system. In December 1984 the line was converted to the standard 25,000 V AC system and the Class 506s were withdrawn and replaced by Class 303 EMUs. The Class 303 EMUs were replaced by Class 305 EMUs in the mid-1990s, the Class 305 EMUs were replaced by Class 323 EMUs in 1997.
