The International School of France, or Ermitage, is an international day and boarding school in Maisons-Laffitte, just outside Paris, France. The school, which was founded in 1941 by a woman seeking to improve conditions of students during World War II, offers an English bilingual education up to French Baccalaureate / International Baccalaureate (IB) level. This is a day school with 5- and 7-day boarding houses. Ermitage focuses on children with different backgrounds from all around the world, not just France. In 2009, the school began offering the IB Diploma Programme. In 2018 the school was also authorised to offer the IB Middle Years Programme. The school is headed by Benjamin Hunter. Enrollment was 1100 students in 2012. Student ages range from 21/2 (TPS) through 19 (Terminale, equivalent to Year 13 in Great Britain or grade 12 in the US).

The Hippodrome de Maisons-Laffitte at 1 avenue de la Pelouse in the northwestern Parisian suburb of Maisons-Laffitte in France was a turf horse racing facility and track for Thoroughbred flat racing. Opened in 1878 by Joseph Oller, inventor of the pari-mutuel machine, it sits on 92 hectares that belonged to the wealthy banker Jacques Laffitte. The nearby Château de Maisons-Laffitte is home to The Museum of the Racehorse. In November 2018 France Galop announced that the racecourse would close at the end of 2019 due to financial pressures on the organisation. The final meeting was held on 29th October 2019. Despite the efforts of local government officials there are no plans to re-open the track and the racing surface has been allowed fall into disrepair.The racecourse layout was unique as it was one of the few courses in the world that staged both left- and right-handed races. It is about 8 km (5 mi) from Saint-Germain-en-Laye. The name "Mesnil" comes from Latin: mansionilis meaning "little estate". The name "Le Mesnil-le-Roi" could be said "The King's small estate" (Francis I).
