The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is one of the richest golf tournaments on the European Tour. It is played in September, on three different links courses, centred on the "home of golf", St Andrews in Fife, Scotland. The tournament is a pro-am, with the format based on the long-running United States PGA Tour's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am held annually since 1937 (except during the Second World War), where each team consists of one amateur and one professional. The three course rotation consists of The Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Links and Kingsbarns Golf Links. The 54-hole cut is made of the top 60 professionals and the leading 20 pro-am teams, regardless of the professional member of the team making the individual cut. These players and teams advance to the final round at St Andrews. Originally called the Dunhill Links Championship, the event was introduced in 2001 as a replacement for the Alfred Dunhill Cup, a three-man team tournament which became marginalised when the long established World Cup of Golf was given enhanced status as part of the World Golf Championships in 2000, becoming the WGC-World Cup. To increase interest in the event, many of the amateurs are well known personalities from the worlds of sport and entertainment. These have included Tico Torres Nigel Mansell, Ian Botham, Gary Lineker, Boris Becker, Michael Douglas, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Vaughan, Matthew Pinsent, Hugh Grant, Justin Timberlake, Michael Phelps and Shane Warne.

Coaltown of Wemyss () is a village in south-east Fife, Scotland, around 5 km north of Kirkcaldy. The town was built in the 1890s as an estate village on the lands of nearby Wemyss Castle to house - as the name implies - mineworkers employed in several coal mines in the area. The miners' cottages were designated as a conservation area in 1980. Today the Coaltown has a primary school, some small shops, and the Earl David Hotel, named after David Wemyss, 2nd Earl of Wemyss. Wemyss Castle itself is not open to the public but its gardens can be visited during summer.

Thornton Junction railway station served the village of Thornton, Fife, Scotland from 1847 to 1969 on the Fife Coast Railway.

Milton of Balgonie () is a small village in central Fife, Scotland. It is situated 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Glenrothes between the nearby villages of Markinch and Coaltown of Balgonie to the west and Windygates to the east. Nearby attractions include Balgonie Castle which is situated between Milton and Coaltown. The ruins of Balfour House, where Mary, Queen of Scots sometimes resided, are to the south of the village. The village has been home to a number of industries through the ages, from flax, flour and wood mills, and to coal mining, although none now remain active: the sawmill being the last standing, but already partially redeveloped. The coal mine was situated at the west end and was the 'ingaun ee' type: a mine accessible by walking into rather than a vertical shaft. There is little remaining apart from a bricked up entrance in the wall opposite Castle View, some concrete stairs, and the sloped mound of the entrance in the field behind.

Kirkcaldy (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Phàrlain, Scots: Dunfaurlin) was a local government district in the Fife region of Scotland from 1975 to 1996. The district was named after the town of Kirkcaldy but also covered a wider area, including the Fife regional capital of Glenrothes.

West Wemyss Tolbooth is a municipal building in Main Street, West Wemyss, Fife, Scotland. The structure, which is used as commercial offices, is a Category B listed building.

Dysart ( ; Scottish Gaelic: Dìseart) is a town and former royal burgh located on the south-east coast between Kirkcaldy and West Wemyss in Fife, Scotland. Dysart was once part of a wider estate owned by the St Clair or Sinclair family. They were responsible for gaining burgh of barony status for the town towards the end of the 15th century. The first record of the town was made in the early 13th century, its initial role being to settle civil matters between the church and landowners. During the middle of the 15th century, trade with the Low Countries began for salt and coal exportation. In the 16th and 17th centuries, trade expanded to the Baltic Countries. Dysart acquired two nicknames: "Salt Burgh" and "Little Holland" as a result. Following the sudden decline of the town's harbour caused by the closure of the Lady Blanche Pit, the town was amalgamated into the royal burgh of Kirkcaldy under an act of parliament in 1930. Urban clearance during the 1950s and 1960s saw large parts of the historic town demolished for new housing. Demand from the town's residents meant that part of the historic town — most notably the 16th-century and the 18th-century houses of Pan Ha' opposite the harbour — were salvaged and preserved for future generations.

Wemyss Castle (pronounced [weems]) is situated in Wemyss on the sea cliffs between the villages of East Wemyss and West Wemyss in Fife, Scotland. Wemyss Castle is considered to be a multi-period building, and today's castle includes many elements from former periods such as the 15th century tower and the 19th century stables and gatepiers.

Thornton Stadium is a greyhound racing track in Thornton, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland. The track is the last remaining independent track and is therefore not regulated by the Greyhound Board of Great Britain. Racing takes place on most Saturdays at 7.30pm.

Coaltown of Balgonie is a village of 1,059 people (2011 census) in south central Fife. It is located on the B9130 road, next to the new town of Glenrothes. Coaltown has a premier shop, a pub, the Balgonie Arms, a bowling green, Balgonie Bowling Club, a village hall, the Victoria Hall, an undertakers, and a garage, Balgonie Motors. There is a playpark for children beside the primary school. Opposite the school is the football pitch for local team, Balgonie Scotia AFC.

West Wemyss ( ) is a village lying on the north shore of the Firth of Forth, in Fife, Scotland. According to the 2007 population estimate, the village has a population of 237. The village was granted burgh of barony status in 1525, bearing the name from the Wemyss family who lived in Wemyss Castle.

Dysart Tolbooth and Town House is a municipal building in the High Street, Dysart, Fife, Scotland. The structure, which was comprehensively restored in 2009, is a Category A listed building.
