Mottarone is a mountain in the Western Alps of Piedmont, north-western Italy, with an elevation of 1,491 metres (4,892 ft). It is located between the provinces of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and Novara.

On 23 May 2021, an aerial tram on the Stresa–Alpino–Mottarone Cable Car crashed to the ground after a traction or haulage cable snapped about five metres (16 ft) from the summit of Mottarone, a mountain near Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. Normally, a hydraulic safety brake would have stopped the runaway car immediately but the cable car was operating illegally with the brake disabled. The crash killed fourteen passengers in the cable car, and seriously injured one child.

The Nigoglia (Lombard: Nigoeuja or Nigòja; Piedmontese: Nigheuja) is a short Italian river whose source is at the northern end of Lake Orta, of which it is the sole outflow. Its course of less than 2 kilometres passes in a northerly direction through the town of Omegna and into the Strona. As a rule, the outflows of Italy's major subalpine lakes run in a southerly direction, down to the plains of the Po valley. The Nigoglia is the exception, seeming to run "upwards" towards the high Alps. This peculiarity gave rise to the motto in the local dialect which is posted on the Omegna town hall, and which is quoted at the end of Gianni Rodari's children's story C'era due volte il barone Lamberto: La Nigoeuja la va in su; e la legg la fèm nu! ("The Nigoglia runs upwards, and we make our own laws!")

Casale Corte Cerro is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 110 kilometres (68 mi) northeast of Turin and about 9 kilometres (6 mi) west of Verbania. It was part of the Mountain Community of Strona and Basso Toce until 2010 when it merged with the Mountain community Due Laghi, Cusio, Mottarone and Strona, which ceased to exist in 2012. Today the town is part of the mountain union of Cusio and Mottarone. Casale Corte Cerro borders the following municipalities: Germagno, Gravellona Toce, Loreglia, Omegna, Ornavasso.

The Strona (Italian pronunciation: [ˈstroːna]) is a mountain torrent in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, northern Italy, a tributary of the Toce. It rises from the small lake near Monte Capezzone at an elevation of 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) and runs through the Valle Strona (the communes of Valstrona, Massiola, Quarna Sopra, Loreglia, Germagno, Omegna, Casale Corte Cerro and Gravellona Toce) before entering the Toce. At Omegna it is joined by the Nigoglia, the outlet of Lago d’Orta.

Baveno is a town and comune in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, part of Piedmont, northern Italy. It is on the west shore of Lago Maggiore, 21 kilometres (13 mi) northwest of Arona by rail. To the north-west are the famous red granite quarries, which have supplied the columns for the Cathedral of Milan, the church of San Paolo fuori le Mura at Rome, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele at Milan and other important buildings.One of the main attractions is a historic reach of villas and castles, built in the 19th century. The Fondo Toce or Fondotoce (Italian pronunciation: [ˌfondoˈtoːtʃe]) Natural Reserve is a nature reserve established in 1990 in the Verbania municipality, which takes its name from the river Toce.The area includes the Toce connection with Lake Maggiore, characterised by the widest lake's rushes, very important for the reproduction of fishes and migratory birds. The Great cormorants sleep here by the river and swallows stop here during migrations. There are rare and native vegetals, like the water caltrop (Trapa natans verbanensis).

The Stronetta, or Rio Stronetta (Italian pronunciation: [ˈriːo stroˈnɛtta]), is a small mountain torrent in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, northern Italy. It rises in the mountains to the south-east of Gravellona Toce and flows through the industrial district of the town, and into Lago Maggiore at Fondotoce, a locality of Verbania. A peculiarity of the river is that in places it is entirely covered by vegetation, and can be difficult to make out.

Verbania-Pallanza railway station (Italian: Stazione di Verbania-Pallanza) serves the city and comune of Verbania, in the Piedmont region, northwestern Italy. Opened in 1905, it forms part of the Milan–Domodossola railway. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). However, the commercial area of the passenger building is managed by Centostazioni. Train services are operated by Trenitalia. Each of these companies is a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), Italy's state-owned rail company.
