Gravellona Toce (Italian pronunciation: [ɡravelˈloːna ˈtoːtʃe]) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 110 kilometres (68 mi) northeast of Turin and about 8 kilometres (5 mi) west of Verbania.

The Strona (Italian pronunciation: [ˈstroːna]) is a mountain torrent in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, northern Italy, a tributary of the Toce. It rises from the small lake near Monte Capezzone at an elevation of 2,100 metres (6,900 ft) and runs through the Valle Strona (the communes of Valstrona, Massiola, Quarna Sopra, Loreglia, Germagno, Omegna, Casale Corte Cerro and Gravellona Toce) before entering the Toce. At Omegna it is joined by the Nigoglia, the outlet of Lago d’Orta.

The Nigoglia (Lombard: Nigoeuja or Nigòja; Piedmontese: Nigheuja) is a short Italian river whose source is at the northern end of Lake Orta, of which it is the sole outflow. Its course of less than 2 kilometres passes in a northerly direction through the town of Omegna and into the Strona. As a rule, the outflows of Italy's major subalpine lakes run in a southerly direction, down to the plains of the Po valley. The Nigoglia is the exception, seeming to run "upwards" towards the high Alps. This peculiarity gave rise to the motto in the local dialect which is posted on the Omegna town hall, and which is quoted at the end of Gianni Rodari's children's story C'era due volte il barone Lamberto: La Nigoeuja la va in su; e la legg la fèm nu! ("The Nigoglia runs upwards, and we make our own laws!")

Loreglia is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 110 kilometres (68 mi) northeast of Turin and about 9 kilometres (6 mi) southwest of Verbania. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 279 and an area of 9.2 square kilometres (3.6 sq mi).Loreglia borders the following municipalities: Casale Corte Cerro, Germagno, Ornavasso, Quarna Sopra, Valstrona.

Mottarone is a mountain in the Western Alps of Piedmont, north-western Italy, with an elevation of 1,491 metres (4,892 ft). It is located between the provinces of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and Novara.

On 23 May 2021, an aerial tram on the Stresa–Alpino–Mottarone Cable Car crashed to the ground after a traction or haulage cable snapped about five metres (16 ft) from the summit of Mottarone, a mountain near Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. Normally, a hydraulic safety brake would have stopped the runaway car immediately but the cable car was operating illegally with the brake disabled. The crash killed fourteen passengers in the cable car, and seriously injured one child.

Verbania-Pallanza railway station (Italian: Stazione di Verbania-Pallanza) serves the city and comune of Verbania, in the Piedmont region, northwestern Italy. Opened in 1905, it forms part of the Milan–Domodossola railway. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). However, the commercial area of the passenger building is managed by Centostazioni. Train services are operated by Trenitalia. Each of these companies is a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), Italy's state-owned rail company.

Lago di Mergozzo (En. Lake Mergozzo) is a small sub-alpine lake in northern Italy just to the west of Lago Maggiore and north of Lago d'Orta, at the mouth of the Val d’Ossola in the province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, Piedmont. In ancient times it was the extreme point of the short northwestern arm of Lago Maggiore, formed by glaciation. However repeated flooding of Maggiore’s tributary the Toce deposited sediment which gradually formed a stretch of land which cut off Mergozzo from the larger expanse of water, and from the Toce itself. Today the settlement of Fondotoce (a frazione of Verbania) stands on this alluvial plain. The small town Mergozzo, which lies at the other end of the lake, gives it its name. The greater part of the lake falls within the commune of Mergozzo, the rest within Verbania. Monte Orfano (790 m) rises from the south-west shore of the lake; the limestone rocks of which it is composed are heavily quarried. On the opposite side of the lake the mountains form the beginning of the Corni di Nibbio chain which divides the Val d’Ossola from the Valgrande and its National Park. The lake is fed by the waters of a number of clean mountain streams, the two most important being the Rio Bracchio and the Rio Rescina. Its sole outlet is the 2.7 km canal which links it to Lago Maggiore near Fondotoce. The difference in levels between the two lakes is slight, and when Maggiore is in flood, the flow of water in the canal goes into reverse. This opens up the possibility of pollutants entering Lago Mergozzo. Nevertheless, today the lake, where the use of motor boats has long been forbidden, is one of the least polluted in Italy; it has become a tourist destination particularly popular with people from Germany and the Netherlands.

The Fondo Toce or Fondotoce (Italian pronunciation: [ˌfondoˈtoːtʃe]) Natural Reserve is a nature reserve established in 1990 in the Verbania municipality, which takes its name from the river Toce.The area includes the Toce connection with Lake Maggiore, characterised by the widest lake's rushes, very important for the reproduction of fishes and migratory birds. The Great cormorants sleep here by the river and swallows stop here during migrations. There are rare and native vegetals, like the water caltrop (Trapa natans verbanensis).

The Stronetta, or Rio Stronetta (Italian pronunciation: [ˈriːo stroˈnɛtta]), is a small mountain torrent in the Province of Verbano Cusio Ossola, northern Italy. It rises in the mountains to the south-east of Gravellona Toce and flows through the industrial district of the town, and into Lago Maggiore at Fondotoce, a locality of Verbania. A peculiarity of the river is that in places it is entirely covered by vegetation, and can be difficult to make out.

Quarna Sopra is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 75 kilometres (47 mi) from Malpensa Airport in Milan, 140 kilometres (87 mi) northeast of Turin and about 15 kilometres (9 mi) southwest of Verbania.Quarna Sopra borders the following municipalities: Germagno, Loreglia, Omegna, Quarna Sotto, Valstrona. Sights include the Belvedere, a balcony over the Lake Orta with an view of all the surrounding area.
