Hankkio is a district in Tampere, Finland, located in the eastern part of the city. The neighboring parts of the city are Messukylä, Ristinarkku, Linnainmaa, Vehmainen, Haihara, Kaukajärvi and Viiala. The Hankkio district is bordered on the south by the Kangasalantie road and on the north by the Tampere–Haapamäki railway.The district is named after Hankkio farm, which was the former croft of the Messukylä's rectory. At one time there was a commercial garden on the farm. Hankkio moved to the city of Tampere in connection with the Messukylä municipal consolidation at the beginning of 1947. The district was zoned in 1960 as an industrial and residential area. Tampere's eastern bypass, completed in the 1990s, split the district and cut off Hankkionkatu, renaming parts of the Etu-Hankkion katu and Keski-Hankkion katu streets.

Kaukajärvi is a district in Tampere, Finland. It is located between the Highway 9 (E63) and the three-kilometer-long Lake Kaukajärvi, where district gets its name.

Linnainmaa is a district of about 6,000 inhabitants in the eastern part of Tampere, Finland, about six kilometers from the city center. Tampere's eastern bypass borders Linnainmaa in the west, and Highway 12 in the north. The building stock of Linnainmaa consists mainly of detached houses built in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as newer detached, multi-storey and terraced houses. The average age of those living in Linnainmaa is 40.9 years. The largest age group is 30-49 years old. The majority of the residents of the district are employed, the second largest are pensioners.

Ristinarkku (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈristinˌɑrkːu]) is a district in Tampere, Finland. The district also includes the Janka's residential area. There are a school and several retail stores in the area. The area is close to the city center and has apartment buildings as well as townhouses. The Sampo Highway runs through Ristinarkku, and the district is bordered on the south by the Tampere–Haapamäki railway and on the east by the eastern part of the Tampere Ring Road (Highway 9). The neighboring parts of the city are Hakametsä, Huikas, Takahuhti, Pappila, Linnainmaa, Hankkio and Messukylä.The Ristinarkku area was the center of the village of Takahuhti, which belonged to Messukylä, where most of the village's houses were still built in the late 19th century as a dense group. The rest of the name Ristinarkku is most likely based on the word orko, which means a meadow or field cleared of drooping. Professor Viljo Nissilä has speculated that a surveyor who has not had local knowledge has written the word orko in what he thinks is a more understandable form of arkku (meaning "coffin"). Thus, the original name Ristinorko, which would have meant the field cleared next to the road junction and gradually also the junction, would have changed into Ristinarkku (literally meaning the "coffing of cross") with a similar phonetic status in the Finnish language. On the other hand, the word arkku is also ambiguous, as it can refer to, for example, a coffin or a bridge support. The roots of the name may date back to the 13th century, as the medieval settlement of Takahuhti had become a group village by the 14th century at the latest. The first town plan of Ristinarkku was confirmed in the 1950s.The name of the Vehnämyllynkatu street is based on the wheat mill located in Ristinarkku, built in the late 19th century. The mill was demolished in connection with the construction of a street bridge across the railway in 1957.

Leinola is a district in the eastern part of Tampere, Finland. The neighboring parts of the city are Linnainmaa and Holvasti. Leinola School is located in the Leinola district. The area is served by bus lines 1, 8 and 38 of the Tampere City Transport. The southern boundary of the district is the Tampere–Haapamäki railway. There is also a statue of Marshal Mannerheim in Leinola.Leinola was mentioned in the 1540 land register as a village belonging to the parish of Messukylä, with five houses. The owner of three of these houses had the same nickname Leinoij in the 1553 land register. Messukylä was annexed to the city of Tampere in 1947, and the first town plan for the Leinola area was confirmed in 1952.The area's street names includes both Kalevala-themed and canine-themed nomenclatures, the latter based on the old place called Koiramäki ("dog hill"). Instead, the street names Lukinkatu, Mikkolankatu and Vestonkatu refer to old main buildings of the historical village. The name of Karjumäenkatu is based on Karjumäki ("boar hill"), located north of the street, which was once used as a pig pasture. The Pulkkisenkatu and Pulkkisenraitti are both named after Pulkkisenmäki, and the Pulkkinen's smokehouse is remembered as the last in the area.

Tampere University of Technology (TUT) (Finnish: Tampereen teknillinen yliopisto (TTY)) was Finland's second-largest university in engineering sciences. The university was located in Hervanta, a suburb of Tampere. It was merged with the University of Tampere to create the new Tampere University on 1 January 2019. The university's statutory duty was to pursue research and give the highest education in its field. The research, conducted by some 1,800 staff and faculty members, mostly focused on applied science and often has close ties to many different companies (such as Nokia). Located next to the university campus is a Technology Centre Hermia, including a large Nokia research facility. TUT was one of the only two Finnish universities which operate as foundation. The yearly budget of the university was some 147 million euros. Close to 50% of its budget was external funding. According to Times Higher Education, it ranked 11th in the world, and 4th in Europe, for industry collaboration.

Messukylä (Swedish: Messukylä, also Messuby) is a former municipality of Finland which was annexed by the city of Tampere in 1947. The medieval stone church (built c. 1540) in Messukylä is the oldest building in Tampere. During the Civil War (1918), Messukylä was the scene of heavy battles around both the medieval and new churches.

The Police University College (Finnish: Poliisiammattikorkeakoulu (Polamk), Swedish: Polisyrkeshögskolan) is a university of applied sciences in Tampere, Finland providing police academy training and research under the Ministry of the Interior for the Police of Finland and other Finnish law enforcement units.

Hermia is a science park near Tampere University of Technology (TUT). Hermia is located in Hervanta, a suburb of Tampere, Finland. Hermia is also acting as a technology centre for its region. Hermia offers office space and facilities for both small technology startups and larger companies. It consists of 100,000 m2 of office space and is home to 150 companies and research organizations, for example to many research and development units of the cell phone manufacturer Nokia. Products developed in the offices of Hermia have included the first Nokia Communicator mobile phone, as well as Nokia's first camera-phone. The site is also home to one of the offices of Nokia Research Center, where among other activities the EFR and WB-AMR codecs were developed.

Kaukajärvi is a Finnish lake in Pirkanmaa (also known as the Tampere Region). The lake is 3.2 kilometres (2.0 mi) long, 950 metres (3,120 ft) wide and covers an area of 143 hectares (350 acres). Its average depth is 12 metres (39 ft) and the maximum depth has been measured as 23 metres (75 ft). The municipalities of Tampere and Kangasala adjoin the lake. Kaukajärvi was the venue for the 1977 World Rowing Junior Championships and the 1995 World Rowing Championships.

Turtola (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈturtolɑ]) is a district in Tampere, Finland. It is located in the southeastern part of the city near the Tampere Ring Road, about five kilometers from the city center. Its neighboring parts of the city are Muotiala, Aakkula, Messukylä, Viiala and Korkinmäki. The Hervanta Highway runs through Turtola. One of Tampere's hypermarket centers is located in Turtola.Turtola, mentioned in the 1540 land register, was one of the houses of Messukylä – Messukylä's parish book village, which originally belonged to the parish of the Greater Pirkkala. However, a document dating back to 1465 mentions Olaff Twrdo as a representative of the Messukylä division. There is no complete certainty about the origin of the name Turto, but according to Professor Viljo Nissilä, the name Turto can be combined with the verb turtu and the adjective turta. Professor K. V. Kaukovalta also associates the Finnish adjective turta with the meaning 'heavy-hearted and serious'. The village name Tursola in Kangasala and Sahalahti may have the same root. The name Turto is also associated in some sources with the Swedish male given name Tord. Turtola became a rustholl in the 18th century and was divided into two parts, Turtola and Turtos, in 1773. The municipality of Messukylä was annexed to the city of Tampere at the beginning of 1947 and the first town plan of the Turtola district was approved in 1963.

DUO (originally Hervantakeskus) is a shopping center located in Hervanta, Tampere, Finland. Its original part was designed by the architects Raili and Reima Pietilä, and was completed in the autumn of 1979. The duo has three large grocery stores: Lidl, S-market and K-Supermarket. In addition, there are Alko and Tokmanni as well as restaurants, specialty shops and other commercial services. There is an underground parking garage on the ground floor. There is a total of 11,700 square meters of retail space for rent in the shopping center.The shopping center is part of the central axis of Hervanta designed by Pietilä, which is a nationally significant entity of public buildings. It was once intended to improve Hervanta's concrete-like appearance. The old part of the shopping center, designed by Raili and Reima Pietilä, has features that are characteristic of the architecture and Art Nouveau style of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is a kind of mix of a European market hall, a train station and a winter garden. The fountain structure and the large windows, in turn, are elements that point to the era of large European department stores.In 2007, an extension was completed for the shopping center, which was designed by Arkkitehtitoimisto Eero Lahti Oy. It doubled the space of the center. The opening of the new section was held in April, and the renovation of the old section was completed towards the end of the year. The business center was renamed DUO, which indicates that the building consists of two parts, the new and the old side. In 2019, the real estate investment company Citycon sold its holdings in the shopping center to the real estate investment company NREP.
