Buckland, Virginia

Buckland Historic District is a national historic district located at Buckland, Prince William County, Virginia. It encompasses 30 contributing buildings, 11 contributing sites, and 6 contributing structures in the town of Buckland. The district is centered on a grist mill (c. 1899), Buckland Mill, the third such structure located on the site. Besides the mill, the most significant buildings include an early 19th-century wagon tavern and a small church (c. 1857). For the most part the houses are small, simple, 19th-century dwellings constructed of log, frame or stone; most were intended to serve a commercial as well as a residential purpose. Other contributing resources include the mill race and dam, Cerro Gordo plantation, portions of the Civil War Buckland battlefields, the Kinsley Mill and miller's house, and Buckland Hall (c. 1774).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, with a boundary increase in 2008.

The Battle of Buckland Mills, also known as The Buckland Races or Chestnut Hill, was fought on October 19, 1863, between Union and Confederate forces in the American Civil War. Union cavalry led by Brig. Gen. Judson Kilpatrick were caught in a Confederate ambush and defeated. Near Buckland Mills, on Broad Run, Confederate cavalry commander Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart, with Maj. Gen. Wade Hampton's cavalry division, were covering Gen. Robert E. Lee's retirement from his defeat at Bristoe to the Rappahannock River. On October 19, they turned on Kilpatrick's pursuing Federal cavalry, while Maj. Gen. Fitzhugh Lee's division charged the Federal flank. Kilpatrick was routed, fleeing five miles to Haymarket and Gainesville. The Confederates derisively called the affair "The Buckland Races", although some Confederate commanders likened it to a fox hunt. The Condeferate forces incurred 41 casualties. The Union forces lost about 261 men, most of which were taken prisoner.

Lake Manassas is a 770-acre (310 ha) reservoir located in Prince William County, Virginia, to the southwest of Gainesville. It is owned and operated by the city of Manassas, Virginia, although it is located outside the city limits. The reservoir was created in the late 1960s to provide drinking water for area residents and became operational in 1970. Today it contributes to a regional water system which serves the cities of Manassas and Manassas Park, Virginia, and unincorporated areas of Prince William County. Several golf clubs have courses along the banks, including Stonewall Golf Club and Robert Trent Jones Golf Club.

Vint Hill Farms Station (VHFS) was a United States Army and National Security Agency (NSA) signals intelligence and electronic warfare facility located in Fauquier County, Virginia, near Warrenton. VHFS was closed in 1997 and the land was sold off in 1999. Today the site hosts various engineering and technology companies, as well as two Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control facilities.

Potomac TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach CONtrol), abbreviated PCT, is the FAA air traffic control facility in charge of the Washington, D.C. airspace and Washington Special Flight Rules Area, assigning squawk codes. It is based in Warrenton, Virginia, United States. PCT is a consolidation of 4 former TRACON facilities controlling air traffic for the region's 4 major airports: Washington Dulles International Airport, Washington National Airport, Baltimore-Washington International Airport, and Richmond International Airport. PCT is organized into 4 areas, still associated with those geographic regions: Shenandoah (SHD) covers Dulles and the west area of PCT Mount Vernon (MTV) covers the Washington National Airport, Joint Base Andrews, and surrounding region Chesapeake (CHP) covers BWI and the northern area of PCT James River (JRV) covers Richmond and the southern area of PCT

The 2024 Solheim Cup is the 19th edition of the Solheim Cup matches, held 13–15 September at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia, United States. The Solheim Cup is a biennial team competition between the top women professional golfers from Europe and the United States. The Solheim Cup returns to even-numbered years in 2024, the first time since 2002 after the Ryder Cup returned to an odd-year schedule after 2020, as competition was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.The previous U.S. competition in 2021 was won by Europe, 15 points to 13. Europe retained the cup in Spain in 2023 after a tie of 14 points to 14.

Robert Trent Jones Golf Club (RTJ) is a private golf club located in Gainesville, Virginia, a suburb southwest of Washington D.C. Opened for play 33 years ago in 1991, the par 72 course plays between 5,570 and 7,425 yards (5,093 and 6,789 m).

The 2000 Presidents Cup was held between October 19 and 22, 2000. It was played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, U.S. The United States team won the competition by a margin of 211⁄2–101⁄2. The honorary chairman was American President Bill Clinton.

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and Cemetery a historic Baptist church and cemetery located in Gainesville, Prince William County, Virginia along U.S. Route 29. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.
