Gartness railway station

Gartness is a hamlet in Stirling, Scotland. It is located 1.8 miles/2.9 km from Killearn and 3.1 miles/5 km from Drymen. Most pupils attend Killearn Primary School and senior pupils attend Balfron High School. The Endrick Water passes through the hamlet.In 1572, John Napier had an estate at Gartness with his second wife, Agnes Chisholm.

The A81 road is a major road in Scotland. It runs from Glasgow to Callander via Woodside and Maryhill within the city, as well as Bearsden, Milngavie and Strathblane, a total of 30 miles (48 km). The A81 has been ranked among the five most dangerous roads in Scotland based on serious and fatal accidents between 2007 and 2009, in proportion to volume of traffic.

Finnich Glen in Stirlingshire, is a short, steep glen up to 70 ft deep which runs east from Finnich Bridge on the A809. It was carved from the red sandstone by the Carnock Burn. It features a circular rock known as the Devil's Pulpit and a steep staircase known as the Devil's Steps, built around 1860. Following its use to depict the fictional St Ninian's Spring in the time-traveling romance TV series Outlander in 2014, the site has seen an explosion in tourism, with an estimated 70,000 visitors now coming to the site each year. This has caused stress on both the location itself, and to tourists and local officials, as visitors have trampled fences to access the site and then scrambled down the crumbing, broken 200-year-old stone steps used to access the bed of the gorge, damaging the site and on numerous occasions requiring mountain rescue teams to be dispatched to the gorge for rescues. There being no parking facilities, the large influx of tourists have additionally left large numbers of vehicles parked along the side of the adjacent narrow rural road, blocking access for local residents and first responders. Under a £2 million development plan, landowner David Young has proposed to develop the site as a tourist attraction, including a visitor centre and restaurant, toilets, a 150-spot parking lot, formal "footpaths, viewing platforms and bridges above the gorge, and a new wood-and-metal staircase". The plan requires approval from the local council.It also featured as a location in The Nest.

Drumquhassle was a Roman fort associated with the Gask Ridge in Scotland. It was found from aerial photography in the late 1970s. The name selected for the fort deliberately made it hard for English born readers to pronounce. The fort was from the Flavian period; it was built and briefly occupied by during the administration of Sallustius Lucullus. It is known as a "Glen-blocker" fort and is located within sight of Loch Lomond.

Dalnair Castle, also known as Dalnair House, is a Scottish baronial castle dating from around 1884. It is located outside the village of Croftamie in Stirling, Scotland, on the edge of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.

Croftamie (Scottish Gaelic Croit Sheumaidh) is a small village and community council area in the Stirling council area in Scotland. It lies to the south of the larger village of Drymen. The village was traditionally part of Dunbartonshire. Under the local government reforms in 1975 it became part of the Dumbarton district of Strathclyde. A boundary change in 1983 transferred Croftamie to the Stirling District of the Central Region. Further reforms in 1996 saw the Central Region abolished and Stirling District became the unitary Stirling council area. There is an active community council for Croftamie, which generally meets at the But and Ben public house.Drymen station on the Forth and Clyde Junction Railway was situated in the village.

Drymen (; from Scottish Gaelic: Druiminn [ˈt̪ɾɯmɪɲ]) is a village in the Stirling district of central Scotland. Once a popular stopping place for cattle drovers, it is now popular with visiting tourists given its location near Loch Lomond. The village is centred around a village green which is an unusual feature in Scottish villages but more common in other parts of the United Kingdom.

Balfron railway station was a railway station that served the village of Balfron in Scotland. The station was served by trains on the Strathendrick and Aberfoyle Railway and the Forth and Clyde Junction Railway, both of which closed in the 1950s. The station was about 2 miles (3 km) away from the village that it served, therefore passengers and goods had to be transported by horse and cart to the village. A hamlet known as Balfron Station has since grown up around the site of the former station.

Killearn (Scottish Gaelic: Cill Fhearann, from orig. Ceann Fhearann, "Head/End of (the) Land/Territory" – until the 15th century when Ceann was replaced by Cill; denoting the presence of a house of worship) – is a small village of approximately 1700 people in the Stirling council area of Scotland. The village has its own primary school, a local Co-Op store, a pre and post school club - The Little Outdoor Classroom, and two nurseries - Mulberrybush Montessori and Heron HouseThe village is approximately 15 miles (24 kilometres) north of Glasgow, 7 miles (11 kilometres) east of Loch Lomond, and sits on the northwest flank of the Campsie Fells, most predominantly in the shadow of the volcanic plug of Dumgoyne, overlooking the confluence of the Endrick Water and Blane Water. The Glengoyne whisky distillery, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and West Highland Way long-distance walking route are situated close to the village. The residential special school of Ballikinrain is also located in Killearn Parish, and caters for boys with special needs from throughout Scotland. (The school has been earmarked for closure in July 2015). The Church of Scotland congregation at Killearn Kirk falls under the Presbytery of Stirling, within the Synod of Forth. Within the Roman Catholic Church, Killearn falls under the Parish of Saint Anthony within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh; although the Catholic community in Killearn is served by St. Anthony's Church in the neighbouring town of Balfron.
