Ratina (district)

Ratina (Finnish: Kauppakeskus Ratina) is a shopping center in Finland, opened in the heart of Tampere on 19 April 2018, construction of which began in April 2015. Ratina is Tampere's largest shopping center with 53,000 square meters of retail space, offering groceries, fashion, interior design, wellness and leisure services, as well as cafés and restaurants. Under it, a parking space for more than 1,200 cars has been built, which is the largest parking garage in the center of Tampere.

Koskikeskus is a shopping center in Kyttälä, Tampere, Finland, next to Sokos Hotel Ilves. It was opened in March 1988, when it was the largest shopping center in Finland at the time. The shopping center and the adjacent Hotel Ilves were built on the site of the old Verkatehdas.

The Tampere Bus Station (Finnish: Tampereen linja-autoasema) is a bus station in the city center of Tampere, Finland, located in the Ratina district along the Hatanpää Highway. It takes about 20 minutes by bus to Tampere Airport from the bus station. The bus station, designed by Jaakko Laaksovirta and Bertel Strömmer, representing functionalist architecture, was completed in 1938, and is now a protected cultural site as well as an architectural attraction. When completed, it was also the largest bus station in the Nordic countries.The bus station was at its busiest in the late 1960s, with around 470 departures on normal weekdays. By the end of the 1980s, the number had shrunk to less than 400, mainly due to an increase in the car traffic, but also partly due to the relocation of some local routes to the Pyynikintori square. When the cargo handling facilities at the bus station had become cramped, a new freight station was built between the bus station and the Tampere Highway, which was opened in early 1985. The bus station also had the office of Länsilinjat Oy until 1984, when all the company's operations moved to new premises in the Sarankulma's industrial area. Between 1995 and 2004, the relocation of the bus station to the Central Station was examined in several stages in connection with the national transport hub project. The work also examined the model of a decentralized transport hub, where the bus station would remain in the Ratina district. On 31 May 2004, the City Council's planning department decided that the bus station would remain in its original location. A major renovation of the Tampere bus station began in December 2007, which lasted about a year, where the departure platforms were moved to the east of the station, and the parking spaces for buses were removed. The renovation was completed in late 2008, when the retail premises at the north end of the building were completed. The construction of the future Ratina shopping center was taken into account in the renovation and renovation work. The shopping center was built in 2015–2018 between Ratina Stadium and the bus station, and at the same time the Vuolteenkatu street, which passed through the shopping center site, was moved just behind the bus station. The bus station also provides direct access to the shopping center via escalators.

2022 World Masters Athletics Championships is the 24th in a series of World Masters Athletics Outdoor Championships that took place in Tampere, Finland, from 29 June to 10 July 2022. The main venue was Ratinan Stadion (Tampere Stadium). Supplemental venues include Hervannan keskusurheilukenttä (Hervanta Sports Field), Pyynikin urheilukenttä (Pyynikki Sports Field), Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre (TESC) for throwing events, and Pyynikki Ridge for Cross Country. This edition was originally scheduled for 20 July to 1 August 2020 in Toronto, Canada, but that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and rescheduled. This Championships is organized by World Masters Athletics (WMA) in coordination with a Local Organising Committee (LOC): Juha Yli-Rajala (City of Tampere), Harri Aalto (Finnish Athletics). The WMA is the global governing body of the sport of athletics for athletes 35 years of age or older, setting rules for masters athletics competition. A full range of track and field events were held. In addition, non-stadia events included 8K Cross Country, 10K Race Walk, 20K Race Walk and Half Marathon.

Tampere Stadium (Finnish: Tampereen stadion), also known as Ratina Stadium (Finnish: Ratinan stadion), designed by architect Timo Penttilä and completed in 1965, is a multi-purpose stadium in Tampere, Finland, with a seating capacity of 16,800 people, and up to 32,000 people for concerts. In 2018, the stadium hosted the IAAF World U20 Championships. The pitch and main stand were originally completed for the 1952 1952 Summer Olympics when Ratina hosted five qualification and preliminary round matches. In 2009, Ratina was one of the stadiums of the UEFA Women's Euro 2009. Ratina has also hosted several matches of the Finland national football team.

The Sori Square (Finnish: Sorin aukio) is a square located in the center of Tampere, Finland, in the southern part of the Kyttälä district. It is located in the area bounded by the Hatanpää Highway, Suvantokatu, Tuomiokirkonkatu and Vuolteenkatu. At the eastern end of the square is the Tampere Orthodox Church from 1898. There is a terminus at Tampere Tram Line 1 on the west side.The square was built in the 1980s, and its artistic composition was by sculptor Harry Kivijärvi. In the square is his 10-meter sculpture called Pirkka. Kivijärvi has also designed the area's lamps, benches and trash bins, as well as a mosaic-decorated water basin in the northern corner of the square. The work was completed in the autumn of 1987.The name of Sori Square was marked in the town plan in 1985. It is based on the old place name Sorinahde; the hill that rises from Ratina towards Kalevankangas has been called Sorinahde, and the square is located in the middle of the hill.

The Tampere Police Station (or the Tampere Central Police Station; Finnish: Tampereen poliisitalo, Swedish: Tammerfors polishus) is a police station located in the Ratina district in Tampere, Finland, and also the administrative center of the Central Finland Police Department. The police station is also used by the Finnish Security Intelligence Service (SUPO). There are about 400 police officers working there and about 50 others. The police station consists of two buildings located near the Tampere Bus Station along the Hatanpää Highway and Sorinkatu streets; due to this, in Tampere colloquially, the police station and its surroundings are also known as Sori by locals.The station is owned by Senate Properties.

Tammerkoski is a channel of rapids in Tampere, Finland. The city of Tampere is located between two lakes, Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi. The difference in altitude between these two is 18 metres (59 ft) and the water flows from Näsijärvi to Pyhäjärvi through the Tammerkoski rapids. The banks of the Tammerkoski are among the oldest industrial areas in Finland. There was a busy marketplace in the 17th century. Tampere was founded on the banks of the rapids, as the rushing water provided a great deal of power for the needs of industry. There are four power stations and three dams located on the Tammerkoski. The highest in altitude is the dam between Finlayson and Tampella. From this dam, the stream is led to the power stations of Finlayson and Tampella on either side of the rapids. In the middle, there is the city's power plant and the lowest one in terms of altitude is the dam at the Tako paperboard mill, which belongs to M-real. The three uppermost power stations are owned by the city, while the powerstation by Tako is owned mostly by the municipal power company of Southern Savonia.

Hämeensilta (the ″Häme Bridge″) is a bridge in Tampere, Finland, crossing the Tammerkoski rapids. The main street of Tampere, Hämeenkatu, runs along the bridge, connecting the Kyttälä district to the western parts of the city center. Hämeensilta is one of the city's best known landmarks, especially famous for the statues on the rails of the bridge. The arches of the bridge are made of concrete and they are coated with a red granite. The 68-metre-long (223 ft) Hämeensilta was completed in 1929. It is named after the Finnish name of the Tavastia province.

The Battle of Tampere was a 1918 Finnish Civil War battle, fought in Tampere, Finland from 15 March to 6 April between the Whites and the Reds. It is the most famous and the heaviest of all the Finnish Civil War battles. Today it is particularly remembered for its bloody aftermath as the Whites executed hundreds of capitulated Reds and took 11,000 prisoners placed in the Kalevankangas camp.

Tuomiokirkonkatu (literally "Cathedral Street") is a north–south street in the center of Tampere, Finland, which runs through the districts of Jussinkylä and Kyttälä. The street is about a kilometer long. In the north it ends at Lapintie, in the south Vuolteenkatu. In Kyttälä, part of Tuomiokirkonkatu has been turned into a pedestrian street. In the future, the pedestrian section will be expanded so that it will eventually extend south from Kyttälänkatu to Suvantokatu and the Sori Square (Sorin aukio).The street got its current name in 1936, when the city underwent a major street name reform. Tuomiokirkonkatu refers to the Tampere Cathedral, which is located along the street. The previous name Viinikankatu was in the town plan in 1886–1936. The old name was abandoned because it was considered misleading; after the town plan changes, the street no longer led to the Viinikka district.Tuomiokirkonkatu has several important sites for cultural historically architecture of cityscape. In addition to the nationally significant the Tampere Cathedral (1906), the Orthodox Church (1898), which was Kyttälä's first church building, rises along the street. Other notable buildings include the Classical High School of Tampere (1907), the Tuominen Stone Wall (1910), and the Stockmann department store (1981).

Tampere Orthodox Church (also known as the Church of the Alexander Nevsky and the Saint Nicholas) is an Eastern Orthodox church in Tampere, Finland, located in the Kyttälä city district. It is dedicated to Saint Alexander Nevsky and to Saint Nicholas. Tampere Orthodox Church was completed in 1899 to the design of the Russian military architect T. U. Yazukov.
