Old Bridge High School (formed from combining the former Cedar Ridge and Madison Central high schools) is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school of the Old Bridge Township Public Schools. The school is located on County Route 516 in Old Bridge Township, however, it is assigned a Matawan mailing address. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1970.Through partnerships with Fairleigh Dickinson University and Middlesex County College, students can take college courses for credit in both high school and college.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,711 students and 203.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.4:1. There were 314 students (11.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 77 (2.8% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch. Based on 2021-22 data from the New Jersey Department of Education, it was the fifth-largest high school in the state and one of 29 schools with more than 2,000 students.The school operates from 7:35 A.M. to 2:06 P.M. and runs on a 6-period schedule using block scheduling.

Cheesequake is an unincorporated community located within Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Cheesequake is located along Route 34, south of Cheesequake State Park.The community's name has been said to be derived from the Lenni Lenape word Cheseh-oh-ke, meaning "upland" or from the word chiskhakink or chickhake, meaning "land that has been cleared."

Cottrell Corners is an unincorporated community located within Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Located at the corner of Old Bridge-Matawan Road (County Route 516) and Cottrell Road, the area is named for the Cottrell Family who owned an apple farm at the crossroads since before the United States was founded. Though the last parcel of the farmland had originally been sold to a developer in 2002, the Middlesex County Freeholder Board purchased the property and intends to preserve it. In addition to the farm, the area contains stores, a townhouse development, and is the seat of the Old Bridge municipal offices and library.

Cheesequake State Park is a 1,610-acre (2.52 sq mi) state park located in Old Bridge, Middlesex County, New Jersey, in the United States. The New Jersey Legislature allocated $100,000 in 1937 to purchase property for the park. The state first acquired a 250-acre (100 ha) tract of farmland and a Civil War-era mansion from the Favier brothers in January 1938. Additional lands were acquired over the next two years, and the Civil Conservation Corps, part of the Works Progress Administration, helped develop the property. The park was opened in June 1940. It is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry and is part of the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail Route. The name Cheesequake has been variously described as deriving from the Lenape words Cheseh-oh-ke ("upland"), Chichequaas ("upland village"), or Chiskhakink ("at the land that has been cleared").

The Devitte Military Academy was an American military academy founded in 1918 by Major Leopold Devitte and Suzanne Jacques DeVitte. It started as the "Devitte School" but changed its name in 1927. It closed in 1979.Starting out as co-educational residential school, in 1920, it became an all-male school. It was located on Wolleytown Road in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey.At its start, the school campus covered about 70 acres. In 1931 it expanded to 80 acres. By 1974, the campus had been scaled back to 58 acres of "athletic and academic facilities".The school closed in 1943 but reopened in 1952.Most of the students were from the United States, Mexico and Central America.

Freneau is an unincorporated community located within Matawan in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. It is named for Philip Freneau (1752–1832), a poet during the American Revolutionary War. The community is located along New Jersey Route 79 in the southern portion of Matawan and was formerly served by the Monmouth County Agricultural Railroad (now a part of the Henry Hudson Trail).

Madison Central High School is a defunct public high school in Old Bridge Township, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States, that opened in 1962 and closed in June 1994. Increasing numbers of students from Old Bridge attending Matawan High School led to double sessions in the 1960-61 school year, with the prospect of triple sessions being necessary as the growing number of students being sent from Old Bridge could swell enrollment even further beyond capacity. The school opened in 1962 as Madison Township High School, serving freshman and sophomores, while those in their junior and senior years continued to attend East Brunswick High School, Keyport High School, Matawan High School or South River High School as part of sending/receiving relationships. Cedar Ridge High School opened in 1968 to help alleviate overcrowding at Madison Central. Old Bridge High School opened in September 1994 and was formed from the merger of Cedar Ridge and Madison Central, which were the two existing high schools in Old Bridge Township.The school had an enrollment of 1,210 in the 1990-1991 school year, slightly larger than the student body at Cedar Ridge.

Matawan is a part of the New Jersey Transit Village Initiative, a type of residential-focused transit-oriented development focused around the Aberdeen-Matawan train station.

Imperial Oil is a current Superfund site located off Orchard Place near Route 79 in Morganville, Marlboro Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey. This site is one of 114 Superfund sites in New Jersey. It is in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2 Superfund area of control and organization. The 15-acre (61,000 m2) Imperial Oil Co./Champion Chemicals site consisted of six production, storage, and maintenance buildings and 56 above-ground storage tanks.
