Cedar Ridge High School (New Jersey)

The Cedar Grove School is a historic one-room schoolhouse located at 4216 County Route 516 in Old Bridge Township of Middlesex County, New Jersey. Built in 1885, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 24, 1976 for its significance in education and community history. Since 1964, the building has been the Thomas Warne Museum, run by the Madison–Old Bridge Township Historical Society.

Old Bridge High School (formed from combining the former Cedar Ridge and Madison Central high schools) is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school of the Old Bridge Township Public Schools. The school is located on County Route 516 in Old Bridge Township, however, it is assigned a Matawan mailing address. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1970.Through partnerships with Fairleigh Dickinson University and Middlesex County College, students can take college courses for credit in both high school and college.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,711 students and 203.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.4:1. There were 314 students (11.6% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 77 (2.8% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch. Based on 2021-22 data from the New Jersey Department of Education, it was the fifth-largest high school in the state and one of 29 schools with more than 2,000 students.The school operates from 7:35 A.M. to 2:06 P.M. and runs on a 6-period schedule using block scheduling.

Cheesequake is an unincorporated community located within Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Cheesequake is located along Route 34, south of Cheesequake State Park.The community's name has been said to be derived from the Lenni Lenape word Cheseh-oh-ke, meaning "upland" or from the word chiskhakink or chickhake, meaning "land that has been cleared."

Cottrell Corners is an unincorporated community located within Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Located at the corner of Old Bridge-Matawan Road (County Route 516) and Cottrell Road, the area is named for the Cottrell Family who owned an apple farm at the crossroads since before the United States was founded. Though the last parcel of the farmland had originally been sold to a developer in 2002, the Middlesex County Freeholder Board purchased the property and intends to preserve it. In addition to the farm, the area contains stores, a townhouse development, and is the seat of the Old Bridge municipal offices and library.

Brownville is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 2,383.

Cheesequake State Park is a 1,610-acre (2.52 sq mi) state park located in Old Bridge, Middlesex County, New Jersey, in the United States. The New Jersey Legislature allocated $100,000 in 1937 to purchase property for the park. The state first acquired a 250-acre (100 ha) tract of farmland and a Civil War-era mansion from the Favier brothers in January 1938. Additional lands were acquired over the next two years, and the Civil Conservation Corps, part of the Works Progress Administration, helped develop the property. The park was opened in June 1940. It is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry and is part of the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail Route. The name Cheesequake has been variously described as deriving from the Lenape words Cheseh-oh-ke ("upland"), Chichequaas ("upland village"), or Chiskhakink ("at the land that has been cleared").

The Devitte Military Academy was an American military academy founded in 1918 by Major Leopold Devitte and Suzanne Jacques DeVitte. It started as the "Devitte School" but changed its name in 1927. It closed in 1979.Starting out as co-educational residential school, in 1920, it became an all-male school. It was located on Wolleytown Road in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey.At its start, the school campus covered about 70 acres. In 1931 it expanded to 80 acres. By 1974, the campus had been scaled back to 58 acres of "athletic and academic facilities".The school closed in 1943 but reopened in 1952.Most of the students were from the United States, Mexico and Central America.

The Burnt Fly Bog Superfund Site is located in Marlboro Township in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Contamination began in the 1950s and 1960s. It was used as a dumping ground for hazardous chemicals and oils. This site was used to reprocess or recycle oil, and it was also used as a landfill during the 1950s. The contamination affected the surface water and soil. The EPA got involved in the 1980s and addressed the situation. Human health concerns were a main part of the EPA getting involved because residents lived only about 1,000 to 2,000 feet around the site. Major components of the remedy included excavation and off-site disposal of contaminated soil from Northerly Wetlands, Tar Patch Area. The back filling of the areas addressed, monitoring of the surface water and sediments, and biological sampling in the Westerly Wetlands. The current status of the site is complete. The remedial stages were completed in the late 1990s and a five-year monitoring of the surface water was completed around 2004.

Freneau is an unincorporated community located within Matawan in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. It is named for Philip Freneau (1752–1832), a poet during the American Revolutionary War. The community is located along New Jersey Route 79 in the southern portion of Matawan and was formerly served by the Monmouth County Agricultural Railroad (now a part of the Henry Hudson Trail).

Matawan is a borough in Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. A historic community located near the Raritan Bay in the much larger Raritan Valley region, the borough is a commuter town of New York City within the New York Metropolitan Area. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 9,565, an increase of 755 (+8.6%) from the 2010 census count of 8,810, which in turn reflected a decline of 100 (−1.1%) from the 8,910 counted in the 2000 census.Matawan was part of the Bayshore Regional Strategic Plan, an effort by nine municipalities in northern Monmouth County to reinvigorate the area's economy by emphasizing the traditional downtowns, dense residential neighborhoods, maritime history, and the natural beauty of the Raritan Bayshore coastline. The plan has since been integrated into the 2016 Monmouth County Master Plan. Matawan is a part of the New Jersey Transit Village Initiative, a type of residential-focused transit-oriented development focused around the Aberdeen-Matawan train station.
