Rockville High School is a public secondary school located in Vernon, Connecticut. The school also serves as a vocational agriculture school for the region. The school was established in 1870 and its current building was built in 1958.

The Saxony Mill was a historic textile mill complex at 66 West Street in Rockville section of Vernon, Connecticut. With a construction history dating to 1836, it was one of the oldest surviving wood-frame textile mills in the state prior to a 1994 fire which led to its demolition. The mill complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Hockanum River is a river in Connecticut. Hockanum is derived from the Native American Podunk people Algonquin language word meaning "hook-shaped", so named because of the course of the river. The Hockanum neighborhood in East Hartford is named after it. It rises at the outlet of Shenipsit Lake in Rockville, then flows through Vernon, Ellington, Manchester, and East Hartford. Its mouth on the Connecticut River is immediately north of the Charter Oak Bridge and south of and across from the mouth of the Park River. The Hockanum River runs for about 22.6 miles (36.4 km) until it spills into the Connecticut River. There is a popular paddling route that follows the river for 13 miles (21 km). It begins at the bridge at Pleasant View Drive, one mile west of Vernon Center, and continues to the Connecticut River. This river run is mostly quickwater with one Class II whitewater area that eventually fades to flatwater and tidal water at its mouth at the Connecticut River. Historically used for industry, the river has in recent years had hiking trails and linear parks developed along its banks. The banks of the river are slowly being cleaned up after years of pollution and dumping.

Congregation Knesseth Israel, also known as the Ellington Shul, is a Modern Orthodox synagogue located at 236 Pinney Street in Ellington, Connecticut, in the United States. The congregation was founded in 1906 by a group of Yiddish-speaking Jewish farmers from Russia and Eastern Europe. Its building, dating to 1913, is a rare example of an early 20th-century rural synagogue in the state, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

The Florence Mill, known later as the U. S. Envelope Building, is a former industrial facility located at 121 West Main Street in the Rockville section of Vernon, Connecticut. Developed in stages between 1864 and 1916, it exhibits changes in mill construction technology over that period, include a rare early example of Second Empire architecture. Now converted into senior housing, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Hartford and Tolland Turnpike was a turnpike that once connected the statehouse in Hartford, Connecticut, to the county courthouse in Tolland, Connecticut. The turnpike was created by the Hartford and Tolland Turnpike Company, organized in October 1801, and apparently opened to traffic shortly afterward. Due to errors in its initial survey, it was resurveyed in May 1804 and the route adjusted accordingly. Its westernmost terminus was in East Hartford, Connecticut, at the ferry (and subsequent bridge, first built in 1808) across the Connecticut River to Hartford. It then ran roughly along the lines of today's Governor Street and Tolland Street in East Hartford, through what is now the Tolland Turnpike and then Interstate 84 in Manchester, Connecticut, then along the Hartford Turnpike (Connecticut Route 30) in Vernon, Connecticut, and into Tolland, Connecticut, and finally along the Tolland Stage Road (Connecticut Route 74) into the center of Tolland. A surviving milestone may be seen on the Hartford Turnpike in front of the Vernon Community Arts Center. Tolland was a junction point for multiple turnpikes, and when the Stafford Pool Turnpike (c. 1803) and Worcester and Stafford Turnpike (1810) opened, the Hartford and Tolland Turnpike formed an important segment in the major route between Hartford and Boston via Worcester, Massachusetts.

The New England Civil War Museum and Research Center was originally started by local Civil War veterans in 1896. It was not until March 1994 that it was formally established as a museum and opened to the public. It is located within the Memorial Building, inside a former Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Hall in Rockville, Connecticut. Thomas F. Burpee Post #71 of the Grand Army of the Republic held their meetings in the Grand Hall from 1890 until 1929. Alden Skinner Camp #45 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, their direct heir, have held their monthly meetings in the hall since 1890, making it the oldest, continuously used GAR Hall in the entire country.

Rockville is a census-designated place and a village of the town of Vernon in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. The village is part of the Capitol Planning Region. The population was 7,920 at the 2020 census. Incorporated as a city in 1889, it has been consolidated with the town of Vernon since 1965.

The Old Rockville High School and East School are a pair of historic former school buildings at School and Park Streets in the Rockville section of Vernon, Connecticut. Built in 1892 and 1870 respectively, the two buildings are good examples of late 19th-century school architecture, and the former high school is a particularly good example of Richardsonian Romanesque design. The buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. The high school now houses school administration offices, and the East School houses court offices.

Ellington Center Historic District is an 80-acre (32 ha) historic district in the town of Ellington, Connecticut that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. The historic district encompasses most of Ellington Center, including the town green and buildings that face the green or the streets that lead to it.: 26, 28  It includes the Hall Memorial Library. Architecture represented includes the Colonial Revival style and work by Nelson Chaffee. The Ellington green is largely open space with tall shade trees. A granite monument on the green identifies the site of the first meetinghouse in Ellington Center, built in 1739.The National Register listing included 103 contributing buildings, three contributing sites, and two contributing objects. It also included 26 non-contributing buildings, six non-contributing structures, and three non-contributing objects. The district does not include commercial property east of the green, the town hall and its annex, Center School, and several houses within its general boundaries. Center School, a public elementary school, occupies a brick building constructed in 1949 to replace a structure that was constructed in 1852 as a one-room schoolhouse and later expanded.Hall Memorial Library, a Neo-Classical Revival building built of brick and limestone, is one of the largest buildings in the historic district. The historic district also includes two churches.

The Hall Memorial Library in Ellington, Connecticut was built in 1903 and was the first free public library in the town. It was designed by New York City architect Wilson Potter. It is a contributing building in the Ellington Center Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
