St. James High School (SJHS) is a public high school in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, United States, located west of Highway 17 on Highway 707 approximately six miles from the Atlantic Ocean. It is one of 13 high schools in the Horry County School District. St. James has over 1,700 students and is the home of the St. James High School Sharks. St. James Elementary, Burgess Elementary, Seaside Elementary, St. James Intermediate, and St. James Middle School feed into St. James High.

The Myrtle Beach metropolitan area (also Myrtle Beach-Conway-North Myrtle Beach, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area) is a census-designated metropolitan statistical area consisting of Horry County in South Carolina. The wider Myrtle Beach CSA includes Georgetown County, South Carolina. From 2013 to 2023, Brunswick County, North Carolina was included in the MSA. In 2023, it was moved to the Wilmington, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area, where is was originally located before 2013. The region's primary cities, in order by population are Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Conway, South Carolina; North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Georgetown, South Carolina.

The Palmetto Trail is a planned 500-mile-long (805 km) foot and mountain bike trail in South Carolina for recreational hiking and biking. Several of the sections are also equestrian trails. It will extend from the Oconee County mountains to the Intracoastal Waterway in Charleston County. It currently consists of 26 segments totaling 350 miles (563 km). Maps and trail guides are available.The trail is sponsored by the Palmetto Conservation Foundation in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. The trail has support from the South Carolina General Assembly. Actual trail construction has been aided by volunteer groups, land managers, Santee Cooper, the South Carolina National Guard, and many others.

Inlet Square Mall is a single-level, 434,482-square-foot (40,364.7 m2) regional shopping center located in Garden City, South Carolina, United States. Opened in 1990, the mall originally housed 45 stores and services, but as of December 2023, it only has two major tenants remaining: Belk and Planet Fitness. The mall has faced has encountered difficulties due to store closures, including major anchors like Kmart and JCPenney, as well as junior anchors Stein Mart and Books-A-Million. The opening of a Walmart Supercenter in Garden City led to the closure of Kmart in 2014, followed by the announcement of JCPenney's closure in 2015. In the same year, a Planet Fitness replaced the former Ladies Choice fitness center, and Stein Mart closed due to a lease issue but relocated to the South Strand Commons shopping center near Surfside Beach, the new location opened in October 2015.

Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1997, is a recent addition to the United States National Wildlife Refuge system. It is located in parts of northeastern Georgetown County, South Carolina, southern Horry, and southeastern Marion counties, and contains lands adjacent to the Pee Dee River, the Little Pee Dee River, and the Waccamaw River near their confluence. Currently the size of the refuge is 22,931 acres (92.80 km2) but plans call for the total refuge to be over 50,000 acres (200 km2). It was founded to preserve valuable undeveloped coastal wetland and adjacent uplands that provide habitats for many species of wildlife. Among the endangered species protected there is the red-cockaded woodpecker, whose habitat is primarily the longleaf pine forest on Sandy Island. This is also a nesting area for swallow-tailed kites and bald eagles. The stated objectives of this refuge are: Provide habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, wading birds, raptors, neo-tropical migratory birds, and resident species. Environmental education and interpretation. Provide opportunities for hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation.The refuge visitor center is located just north of Georgetown on U.S. Route 701. It overlooks the Great Pee Dee River in the small community of Yauhannah.

Garden City, sometimes known as Garden City Beach, is a census-designated place (CDP) in Horry County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,209 at the 2010 census. Garden City Beach is located directly south of Surfside Beach. The developed part of the beach extends south beyond the limits of the Garden City CDP, into Georgetown County, and ends on a peninsula at the mouth of Murrells Inlet.

Murrells Inlet is an unincorporated area and census-designated place in Georgetown County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 7,547 at the 2010 census. It is about 13 miles south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and 21 miles north of Georgetown, the county seat. The community was once primarily a fishing village. It has developed in modern times, along with the rest of the Grand Strand, as a tourist and retirement location. It is known for the Murrells Inlet Marshwalk, a 1⁄2-mile-long (0.8 km) boardwalk overlooking a salt marsh. Many restaurants have been developed along the boardwalk.

Murrells Inlet Historic District is a national historic district located at Murrells Inlet, Georgetown County, South Carolina. The district encompasses 37 contributing buildings and contains a significant concentration of buildings that visually reflect the transition of the area from adjoining estates of two 19th-century rice planters into a 20th-century resort community. The district contains two antebellum houses, which are local interpretations of the Greek Revival style and a collection of early-20th-century vernacular resort buildings. Residential in character, the historic district contains approximately 19 houses. Although they exhibit some diversity, the prevalent use of wood as a building material, the large screened porches, and the setting of moss-draped trees, marshland, and piers provide a visual unity.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Bucksport is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Horry County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 876 at the 2010 census. It is a rural port on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway at the merger point with the Waccamaw River. The port has some services available for boaters and is also home to the Bucksport Restaurant.

Sandy Island is the name of a small unincorporated community in Georgetown County, South Carolina, United States, and a larger island between the Pee Dee and Waccamaw Rivers that has been preserved as a refuge and nature center. The island is about 9,000 acres (36 km2) of a prehistoric sand dune. It is bounded east and west by the rivers, on the north by Bull Creek, and on the south by Thoroughfare Creek. The northern part of the island is higher and is mostly a longleaf pine forest, which provides a refuge for the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker and numerous other species of plants and animals. About 9,000 acres (36 km2) of the island has been purchased by The Nature Conservancy for permanent protection from development. On the southern, lower end of the island are the remnants of old rice plantations, with the watergates and earthwork canals, built by African enslaved people who were skilled in rice culture. Such development was used to manage the water supply for irrigating the rice fields. A small community in the south is made up of a few families who are descendants of former slaves. The island is only accessible by boat, and workers and school children commute to the mainland daily for work and school. Because of its resources, the island is regularly visited by naturalists, planters, archaeologists and geologists. Brookgreen Gardens runs daily "scenic" boat rides close to the island. Tours of the southern end are available by private tour company.

Huntington Beach State Park is a 2500 acre coastal preserve and state park near Murrells Inlet, in Georgetown County, South Carolina. It has a large sandy beach, few beach-goers, and numerous wild birds to watch over the seasons.

Socastee is a census-designated place (CDP) in Horry County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 19,952 at the 2010 census.
