Holmen (Drammen)

Drammen Fjernvarme District Heating is a district heating system in Drammen, Norway, a regional capital some 65 km west of Oslo. The heat pump was manufactured by Star Refrigeration in 2011 with three systems giving a combined capacity of 14 MWs to central Drammen providing 85% of hot water needed for the city. The district heating system is owned and operated by Drammen Fjernvarme who have the rights to the concession area given by the Drammen Municipality. This requires all new buildings larger than 1000 m2 to be built with a water-based heating system and connected to the district heating system. The heat pump uses the natural refrigerant ammonia that has a zero global warming potential and is not a greenhouse gas. The heat source is seawater that is taken in around 8 or 9 °C from a depth of 18 m and is cooled by low pressure liquid refrigerant. Using a vapor-compression refrigeration cycle, the system heats district water from 65 °C to 90 °C for use in building heating and hot water systems. The system has an average coefficient of performance (COP) of 3.0 which means 1 unit of electricity is combined with 2 units of heat from the seawater to provide 3 units of heat to the district heating circuit. With the low cost of hydro-based electricity, it is cheaper to run a heat pump than a gas or electric boiler. In addition, the compressor technology used in the Drammen heat pump is the single screw compressor from Vilter (Emerson). Its internal design allows for balanced forces allowing it to perform with a very long bearing life at more than 120,000 hours for normal refrigeration compressors.The heat is extracted from a local fjord whose water temperature is around 8 °C. The water is heated from recovered energy at a temperature of 120 °C. A city ordinance requires most new buildings to exploit this form of heating.

Brakerøya Station (Norwegian: Brakerøya stasjon) is a railway station located at the village of Brakerøya in Drammen, Norway on the Drammen Line. The station is served by the Oslo Commuter Rail L13 service with half-hour headway by Vy.

The Drammen Bridge (Norwegian: Drammensbrua) is a motorway box girder bridge that crosses Drammenselva river in the town of Drammen in Norway. It is the longest road bridge in Norway, 1,892 metres (6,207 ft) long. The bridge has 41 spans; the longest span is 60 metres (200 ft). The maximum clearance to the water is 11 metres (36 ft). The Drammen Bridge was opened in 1975 with two lanes. A parallel bridge was finished in 2005 with two more lanes. The new bridge has round, slim pillars, while the old one had wide, rectangular pillars. It was decided to replace the pillars under the old bridge, with round pillars similar to the new. This work started shortly after the new bridge opened, and the bridge was closed. The replacement was finished in December, 2006.

Fjell Skole is a school located in Fjell, Drammen, Norway. 77% of the students are from a minority background. The school also runs classes for immigrants to the Drammen area. In 2008, the school was awarded the Humanistprisen from the Human-Etisk Forbund for "its work in anti-racism, friendship between nationalities, and its mind-changing work". In 2003, it was awarded the Benjamin Prize for its work against racism.

Aass Brewery (Norwegian: Aass Bryggeri) is Norway's oldest brewery still active. Founded in 1834 in Drammen, Norway, the brewery's primary products are beer and aquavit. The company also produces a wide range of soft drinks. Aass was also co-owner of the Norwegian soda pop brand A/S Solo.

Buskerud District Court (Norwegian: Buskerud tingrett) is a district court located Buskerud, Norway. This court is based at four different courthouses which are located in Drammen, Hokksund, Kongsberg, and Nesbyen. The court serves the western part of Buskerud which includes cases from 16 municipalities. The court in Drammen accepts cases from the municipalities of Drammen and Lier. The court in Hokksund accepts cases from the municipalities of Øvre Eiker, Modum, Sigdal, and Krødsherad. The court in Kongsberg accepts cases from the municipalities of Flesberg, Kongsberg, Nore og Uvdal, and Rollag. The court in Nesbyen accepts cases from the municipalities of Flå, Hemsedal, Hol, Gol, Nesbyen, and Ål. The court is subordinate to the Borgarting Court of Appeal.The court is led by a chief judge (sorenskriver) and several other judges. The court is a court of first instance. Its judicial duties are mainly to settle criminal cases and to resolve civil litigation as well as bankruptcy. The administration and registration tasks of the court include death registration, issuing certain certificates, performing duties of a notary public, and officiating civil wedding ceremonies. Cases from this court are heard by a combination of professional judges and lay judges.

Strømsø is a borough of Drammen, Viken, Norway.Strømsø is located at the southern side of the river Drammenselva. Until about 1600, Stømsø was an island surrounded by the Drammenselva, but was later made landfast. In 1728 Strømsø was granted rights as a trade center by the king, and these rights were expanded to full trade rights in 1745. In 1811 Strømsø and Bragernes (on the northern side of Drammenselva) were united to form the town of Drammen. Strømsø has sports facilities, retail, office, industry and schools. Most of Strømsø consists of residential areas. At Strømsø we find Drammen railway station, being a junction for the Randsfjorden Line (connecting to the Bergen Line crossing the Hardangervidda), the Sørlandet Line (leading to Kristiansand and Stavanger) and the Vestfold Line. The main part of Drammen Harbor is situated at Strømsø. Opened in 1925, the Drammen shipyard (Drammen Slip og Verksted) was an important part of Drammen's industry until it closed down in 1986. The historic crucifix shaped church Strømsø Church (Strømsø Kirke) which was opened in 1667 is located in Strømsø. The tower of the church was not built until 1694. The church's architect was Daniel Knoff.During the first part of this century the old industrial area of Strømsø, formerly known as Grønland, has been remodeled and transformed into a Science Park (Kunnskapsparken), providing facilities for several governmental institutions such as the police authorities, County offices and the campus for Buskerud University College, Norwegian School of Management - BI Buskerud, Telemark University College (TUC) and Drammen library.

The port and river city of Drammen is centrally located in the south-eastern and most populated part of Norway. Drammen municipality also includes smaller towns and villages such as Konnerud, Svelvik, Mjøndalen and Skoger.

Bragernes Church (Bragernes Kirke) is a parish church at Drammen in Viken county, Norway.It was designed by Ernst Norgrenn (1839-1880) in Neo Gothic style and built of brick. It was consecrated in 1871. The old Bragernes church (Gamle Bragernes kirke) was west of Bragernes square. Built in 1708, it burned down in 1866.Bragernes church is located at the end of Church Street north of Bragernes square in the center of Drammen. Bragernes Cemetery is west of the church. The tower is 64 metres (210 ft) tall. The pulpit was designed by Ernst Norgrenn, while the baptismal font was by Christian Borch. The altarpiece, Resurrection was painted by Adolph Tidemand. It was copied in many Norwegian churches. The church organ has 38 voices and was built in the romantic style of organ builder Carsten Lund Organ Builders of Copenhagen (Carsten Lund Orgelbyggeri).

Drammenshallen is an indoor arena located in Drammen, Norway. It opened in 1978 and is primarily used for handball, and to a lesser extent, track and field, trade shows, exhibitions, and in the past major concerts. Drammen HK and Glassverket IF is currently the main tenant at the facility. The capacity is approximately 4,000 or 6,000 for concerts.
