Sunderland College, is a further education, higher education college based in Sunderland, North East England. The enrolment includes around 6,300 part-time learners and approximately 4,800 full-time students. A report following a January 2010 Ofsted inspection awarded the school a Grade 2 (good) that included a Grade 1 (outstanding) on 3 inspection criteria. The college is a member of the Collab Group of high performing schools.

Barnes is an inner suburb in the southwest of Sunderland in northeast England, situated about a mile from the city centre. The area is split into Barnes, which lies towards the east, and High Barnes, which lies around Barnes Park and the Bede Sixth Form Centre of City of Sunderland College. Barnes is bounded by Chester Road to the north, Durham Road on the south, Springwell Road to the west and the city centre to the east. Barnes Park is a historic public park in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. Taken together with its post-war extensions, which run to the former county borough boundary, it is the largest park in the city.

Plains Farm (known locally as Plainsy) is a suburb of Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England, and is a council-built housing estate, erected in the 1940s. Neighbouring areas include Silksworth, The Barnes, Thorney Close, Springwell and Farringdon. The housing in the area is run predominantly by Home Group and Gentoo Sunderland. Many houses are rented via the two companies; others have been purchased by home owners. The majority of housing is either Terraced or Semi Detached.

Millfield is a suburb and electoral ward of the City of Sunderland, in Tyne and Wear, England. Most of the buildings in the area were built after the Victorian Era and are mostly built up of large terraced houses built for working-class people of the 20th century. When first built Millfield was located near the heart of Sunderland City Centre, but now has expanded. It now links Pallion with the City Centre. Millfield like Pallion is built very near the bank of the River Wear but then extends to Chester Road (The largest road in Sunderland & Washington). Also located in Millfeild is an Aldi Supermarket and right next to the supermarket is the Millfield Metro station. Millfield was part of the Sunderland South parliamentary constituency for elections to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Millfield is now part of Sunderland Central.

Pallion is a suburb and electoral ward in North West Sunderland, in Tyne and Wear, England. Most of the buildings in the area were built during the Victorian Era and consist of large terraced houses built for shipbuilders, but also smaller one-storey cottages in other areas for local workers (the shipyard industry has now long gone). The place-name 'Pallion' is first attested in 1328, where it appears as le Pavylion. This is a French name meaning 'the Pavilion'.On the edge of the parish (on the bank of the River Wear) once stood Pallion Hall, the childhood home of Sir Joseph Swan, developer of the lightbulb. The house was demolished in 1901. Near this part of the area is a retail park, Pallion Metro station and an industrial estate. The new Northern Spire Bridge crosses the Wear just to the north of here. Pallion was also the home of the infamous New Monkey club, which had shaped rave culture in the North East. The club was shut down in 2006 after a drugs raid where there were 18 arrests. 165 officers stormed the club, later the club was forced to shut down.The electoral ward of Pallion was a safe seat for the Labour Party from its creation in the 1970s until early 2018, when it was won by Liberal Democrat campaigner Martin Haswell.[1] Pallion's ethnicity is very similar to the Sunderland average.

Millfield is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving Sunderland Royal Hospital and the suburb of Millfield, City of Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 31 March 2002, following the opening of the extension from Pelaw to South Hylton.

Thornhill Academy, (formerly known as Thornhill School) is a co-educational secondary school located in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England.It was a community school administered by Sunderland City Council, and had a specialism in business and enterprise. In September 2017 Thornhill School converted to academy status and was renamed Thornhill Academy. The school is now sponsored by the Consilium Academies Trust. Thornhill Academy admits pupils mainly from Barnes Junior School, Diamond Hall Junior School, Hudson Road Primary School and Richard Avenue Primary School.The school offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils. Graduating students often go on to study at the Bede Sixth Form, a sixth form consortium including Thornhill Academy and Sunderland College.

Springwell is a suburb of the city of Sunderland. Not to be confused with the village of the same name in the city's far west, Springwell is 2 miles from the city centre to the area's southwest. The suburb borders Thorney Close, The Barnes and Plains Farm. Built in the 1940s, Springwell originated as one of a series of post-war council housing estates in the area.

St Anthony's Girls' Catholic Academy (formerly St Anthony's Girls' Catholic School) is a secondary school and sixth form located in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England.It was established as a grammar school by the Sisters of Mercy in 1902 and relocated to the current site on Thornhill Terrace in 1939. The school became comprehensive in 1972 and became a voluntary aided school in 1976. The school achieved specialisms in technology in 1999 and languages in 2009, and converted to academy status in 2012.St Anthony's Girls' Catholic Academy offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils, while girls in the sixth form have the option to study from a range of A-levels and further BTECs.The current head of school is Mrs Catherine Hammill, and the current executive head teacher is Mrs Francesca Craik.
