Battle of Yangon (1824)

The battle of Rangoon was fought between 11 and 14 April 1852 over the city of Rangoon (present-day Yangon), capital of the Third Burmese Empire, as one of the crucial clashes during the Second Anglo-Burmese War between 1852 and 1853. Just after a few days after sparking the conflict British expeditionary troops took control over the city and forced the Burmese army to retreat up north. British Empire then established Rangoon as the capital of British Burma until the end of its rule in 1948.

The Myanmar Motion Picture Museum is a film museum dedicated to the Cinema of Burma located in Yangon. It is housed in a building which was formerly the headquarters of the Myanmar Motion Picture Organisation (MMPO). It was established in November 1998 to display the efforts of successful film directors, actors and producers in the motion picture history of the country. The museum has seven sections devoted to the silver quadrennial (1920–1945), golden quadrennial (1946–1970), diamond quadrennial (1971–1995) and ruby quadrennial (1996–2020) periods, movie props and makeup, technical equipment, and best achievement awards.

Yangon (Burmese: ရန်ကုန်; pronounced [jàɰ̃.ɡòʊɰ̃]), formerly romanized as Rangoon, is the capital of the Yangon Region and the largest city of Myanmar (also known as Burma). Yangon served as the capital of Myanmar until 2006, when the military government relocated the administrative functions to the purpose-built capital city of Naypyidaw in north central Myanmar. With over five million people, Yangon is Myanmar's most populous city and its most important commercial centre. Yangon boasts the largest number of colonial-era buildings in Southeast Asia, and has a unique colonial-era urban core that is remarkably intact. The colonial-era commercial core is centered around the Sule Pagoda, which is reputed to be over 2,000 years old. The city is also home to the gilded Shwedagon Pagoda – Myanmar's most sacred and famous Buddhist pagoda. Yangon suffers from deeply inadequate infrastructure, especially compared to other major cities in Southeast Asia, such as Jakarta, Bangkok or Hanoi. Though many historic residential and commercial buildings have been renovated throughout central Yangon, most satellite towns that ring the city continue to be profoundly impoverished and lack basic infrastructure.

The Kandawgyi Palace Hotel was a five-star hotel and historical landmark overlooking the Kandawgyi Lake in Yangon, Myanmar. The hotel caught fire on the morning of Thursday, 19 October 2017 and was destroyed.

The Yangon Zoo (Yangon Zoo) (Burmese: ရန်ကုန် တိရစ္ဆာန် ဥယျာဉ် [jàɰ̃ɡòʊɰ̃ təɹeɪʔsʰàɰ̃ ʔṵjɪ̀ɰ̃]) is the oldest and the second largest zoo in Myanmar. Located immediately north of downtown Yangon near Kandawgyi Lake, the 70-acre (28 ha) recreational park also includes a museum of natural history, an aquarium and an amusement park. With a collection of nearly 200 species and 1100 animals, the zoo draws nearly 2.2 million visitors annually. The zoo was operated by the Forest Department under the Ministry of Forestry until April 2011, and is now operated by a private firm.Yangon Zoo is open from 8 AM to 6 PM daily.

Myanmar Noble University (MNU) is a private university in Yangon, Myanmar, located in Thingangyun Township's Thuwanna ward. Established in 2011, MNU is accredited with Pearson Education in partnership with the University of East London in the United Kingdom.

Kandawgalay (Burmese: ကန်တော်ကလေး; lit. "little lake") is a ward in Yangon, Burma located near Yangon Zoological Garden and the man-made, 150-acre, Kandawgyi Lake. Yangon Zoo located at Lake Road, Kandawgalay, Yangon.

Ice Wonderland was a tech-driven theme park created by Chinese sculptors. It was located at Kandawgyi Park in the Yangon region of Southeast Asia. The park was a joint venture between Jian Xi Long Dai Culture Limited and Asia Myanmar Consortium Development. Construction of the park began in September 2011 and it opened to the public on February 25, 2012, but closed a year later.Ice Wonderland consisted of massive ice sculptures, featuring characters such as the Smurfs and the Seven Dwarves, contained within a gigantic freezer. Sculpture displays were kept between -5 °C and -10 °C, and were changed every three months to preserve their appearance and to prevent melting. Jackets and rubber boots were provided to customers, who had to first adjust due to the great temperature difference between the park and the outside. Other attractions included an ice slide, toboggan rides for children, an arcade area with a variety of games, and an attraction called Fire Man, where players can act as a fireman and spray water onto a screen to put out a fire. 5D movies and snacks were also to be available to park attendees.

Kandawgyi Lake (Burmese: ကန်တော်ကြီး pronounced [kàɰ̃dɔ̀dʑí]; literally "great royal lake", formerly Royal Lake), is one of two major lakes in Yangon, Myanmar. Located east of the Shwedagon Pagoda, the lake is artificial; water from Inya Lake is channelled through a series of pipes to Kandawgyi Lake. It was created to provide a clean water supply to the city during the British colonial administration. It is approximately 5 miles (8 km) in circumference, and has a depth of 20 to 45 inches (50 to 115 cm).The 150-acre (61 ha) lake is surrounded by the 110-acre (45 ha) Kandawgyi Nature Park, and the 69.25-acre (28-hectare) Yangon Zoological Gardens, which consists of a zoo, an aquarium and an amusement park. In 2012, the park hosted Ice Wonderland. The lake itself is bounded by Natmauk Street to its north and east, Bahan Street to its west, and Kanyeiktha Street to its south. The lake used to be the site of the Rangoon Rowing Club turned Kandawgyi Palace Hotel, which was gutted by a fire in 2017. Along the eastern shorelines of the lake is the famous Karaweik, a concrete replica of a Burmese royal barge built in 1972. It houses a buffet restaurant today. On 15 April 2010, three bombs exploded in a road near to the lake in the afternoon during the Burmese New Year festival; 10 people were killed and 178 injured.

Alanpya Pagoda (Burmese: အလံပြစေတီ; also known as Signal Pagoda) is a 98.33-foot-tall (29.97 m) Burmese pagoda located on Alanpya Hill, on the southern part of Dhammarakhita Hill, in Yangon, Myanmar. The pagoda is south of Maha Wizaya Pagoda.

Myanmar Photo Archive (MPA; Burmese: မြန်မာဓာတ်ပုံမော်ကွန်းသည်, romanized: myanmardharatpone mawkwann sai) is both a physical archive of photographs taken between 1889 and 1995 in Myanmar (Burma), and a public awareness project of the country's visual culture. The MPA presents exhibitions, online resources, public events, and publishes books on the history of photography in Myanmar and former Burma. The collection holds more than 30,000 images and other related materials, and is the largest archive for Myanmar's photographic history.

The Maha Wizaya Pagoda (Burmese: မဟာဝိဇယစေတီ; Pali: Māhavijayacetiya) is a pagoda located on Shwedagon Pagoda Road in Dagon Township, Yangon, Myanmar. The pagoda, built in 1980, is located immediately south of the Shwedagon Pagoda on Dhammarakhita Hill. The enshrined relics were contributed by the King of Nepal, while the pagoda's hti (umbrella) was consecrated by Ne Win, the country's former leader. The construction of this particular pagoda is believed by some scholars to have been a form of merit-making on the part of Ne Win.The pagoda was built to commemorate the convening of the First Congregation of All Orders for the Purification, Perpetuation and Propagation of Sasana in 1980, which formed the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee, a governmental regulatory body of Buddhist monks.
