Monterey Square (Savannah, Georgia)

The Casimir Pulaski Monument in Savannah, or Pulaski Monument on Monterey Square, is a 19th-century monument to Casimir Pulaski, in Monterey Square, on Bull Street, Savannah, Georgia, not far from the battlefield where Pulaski lost his life during the siege of Savannah. The monument is one of the only two that still has a railing around it, the other being the Civil War Memorial in Forsyth Park.

2 East Taylor Street (also known as the Comer House) is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located in the northwestern tything block of Monterey Square and was built in 1880. It is part of the Savannah Historic District. It was formerly the home of Hugh Moss Comer (1842–1900), president of the Central of Georgia Railway. Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederacy, was a guest at the house in 1886 with his daughter Varina Anne Davis. The exterior of the house appears in the Clint Eastwood-directed 1997 movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. John Cusack's character, John Kelso, is welcomed to town by the home's owner from one of its verandas. The gate in the fenced wall that Kelso walks through has since been removed.

The Hurn Museum is a museum on Monterey Square in Savannah, Georgia, United States, devoted to American folk art, as well as the work of international self-taught artists. The museum is named after the late Deborah Hurn, a local champion of folk art in Savannah. The museum was opened in November 2004 by the Sottile family. The museum was viewed as controversial because it rejected the handicraft definition of folk art in favour of fine art. "Fine art separated the decorative arts years ago. We have to do the same with folk art" said co-founder Michael Sottile.

The Noble Hardee Mansion is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is located at 3 West Gordon Street, in the southwestern residential block of Monterey Square, and was built in 1860. It is part of the Savannah Historic District. The home, consisting of 3.5 storeys and containing fifteen fireplaces, was built for Noble Andrew Hardee, a cotton factor and owner of N. A. Hardee Company. He died seven years after the building's construction. From the late 1990s until around 2022, the building was occupied by Alex Raskin Antiques. The entrance to the store was at 441 Bull Street on the building's eastern side.The building was restored in the late 19th century, with additions made over the years removed.In the 1940s, it formed part of Armstrong Junior College.21st United States president Chester A. Arthur visited his relative Henry Triplett Botts at the mansion.The building was featured in the 1995 movie Something to Talk About, utilized by Julia Roberts as a surreptitous meeting place.In 2022, Ralston College was considering using the building.

Congregation Mickve Israel in Savannah, Georgia, is one of the oldest synagogues in the United States, as it was organized in 1735 by mostly Sephardic Jewish immigrants of Spanish-Portuguese extraction from London who arrived in the new colony in 1733. They consecrated their current synagogue, located on Monterey Square in historic Savannah, in 1878. It is a rare example of a Gothic-style synagogue. The synagogue building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Today, the synagogue is a member of the Union for Reform Judaism.

Scudder's Row (possibly Scudders Row) is a historic row house in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It comprises the five homes from 1 to 9 East Gordon Street, in the southeastern residential block of Monterey Square, and was completed in 1853. It is a contributing property of the Savannah Historic District, itself on the National Register of Historic Places.The properties were built between 1852 and 1853 by brothers John and Ephraim Scudder. John Scudder also built several of the homes on Savannah's Jones Street, which has been described as one of the most charming streets in America.Other similar-style row houses exist in Savannah's Gordon Row, the Jones Street Quantock Row, the Chatham Square Quantock Row, William Remshart Row House, McDonough Row and Marshall Row.

The Thomas–Levy House is a historic building in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It comprises the western half of a Second Empire baroque townhouse known as the Thomas–Purse Duplex, located in the northeastern residential block of Monterey Square. It was built in 1869 for Daniel Thomas, and is part of the Savannah Historic District.In a survey for Historic Savannah Foundation, Mary Lane Morrison found the building to be of significant status.Daniel Remshart Thomas (1843–1915) was a Savannah native. After the Civil War, he went into business with Captain Daniel Gugel Purse Sr. Three years later, the two men built a duplex, of which one half is now known as the Thomas–Levy House, with Purse owning number 14 next door. Thomas lived at number 12 with his wife Jeanne Manget. His family later moved to another duplex, the Abraham Smith & Herman Traub building at 210 East Gaston Street, where Thomas died in 1916.The Levy family purchased the property in the 1880s, and it was renovated and added to in 1897 by department-store owner and Alsace, France, native Benjamin Hirsch Levy I. Marion Levy Mendal died in 2019 at the age of 101. She was married to Benjamin Hirsch Levy II, grandson of the earlier owner. The building's basement level is the home of V & J Duncan Antique Maps, Prints and Books, established in 1983 by John and Virginia (Ginger) Duncan, who still run it. They purchased the property in 1977 for $36,000. They installed an elevator in 2008.Its courtyard features a reproduction of Antonio Canova's Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss sculpture that was on exhibition at the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco.John Berendt, author of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, visited the Duncans in the early 1980s, during the early research for his non-fiction novel. Ginger is mentioned in the book, while both John and Ginger appear in Clint Eastwood's 1997 film adaptation.

The Armstrong Kessler Mansion (formerly known as Armstrong House) is a nationally significant example of Italian Renaissance Revival architectural style located in the Savannah Historic District. The structure was built between 1917 and 1919 for the home of Savannah magnate George Ferguson Armstrong (1868–1924). It was owned by the Armstrong family from 1919 to 1935. Afterward, the structure and grounds served as the campus of Armstrong Junior College. Threatened with demolition, the Historic Savannah Foundation purchased the Armstrong House along with five other threatened historic buildings from the college for $235,000 in 1967. Once saved, Historic Savannah Foundation then sold the Mansion (and Hershel V. Jenkins Hall) at the exact purchase price to preservationist and antique dealer Jim Williams who restored it as his home. Eventually, both were sold to a major Savannah law firm as offices. The mansion was featured in The American Architect in 1919, and listed in A Field Guide to American Houses in 1984.

It was later sold to Charles S. Hardee for $4,500. Scudder also built the property next door at 15 East Jones Street.

Jones Street is a historic street in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is named for Major John Jones, an aide to brigadier general Lachlan McIntosh at the 1779 siege of Savannah during the American Revolutionary War.Jones street stretches just over 1 mile (1.6 km), from West Boundary Street in the west to East Broad Street in the east. It lies near the center of the Savannah Historic District. The street name changes at Bull Street, a north–south thoroughfare, becoming East Jones Street and West Jones Street, respectively, and they border two of Bull Street's southernmost squares. Jones Street has been described as one of the most charming streets in America. Several of its homes were built by John Scudder, who — with his brother, Ephraim — also built Scudder's Row on Monterey Square.The street is interrupted between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Montgomery Street by an off-ramp from Interstate 16, allowing direct access to Savannah's Historic District at Montgomery Street.In a 2016 study, Jones Street was one of several Savannah streets considered to be a "complete street" connection that "provide[d] safe, comfortable and convenient movement for pedestrians, bikes, vehicles, and alternative modes of transportation."Jones Street passes through six wards (from west to east): Currie Town, Pulaski, Jasper, Lafayette, Troup and Bartow.
