The 13th European Cross Country Championships were held at San Giorgio su Legnano in Italy on 10 December 2006. Mo Farah took the title in the men's competition, while Tetyana Holovchenko won the women's race.

Beata Vergine Assunta is the parish church of San Giorgio su Legnano, a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Milan, in Lombardy. Dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, it was consecrated on April 23, 1935. It has a Neo-Renaissance style and is characterized by a central plane of Bramante derivation.

San Giorgio su Legnano (Legnanese: San Giorgiu) is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Milan in the Italian region Lombardy, located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northwest of Milan. San Giorgio su Legnano borders the following municipalities: Legnano, Villa Cortese, Canegrate, Busto Garolfo. It is located in the Po Valley northwest of Milan, from which it is 34 km away, near the valley in which the Olona river flows. Located slightly higher than the neighbouring Legnano (hence the preposition "su", en. "up", in the name), it is one of the smaller municipalities in the metropolitan city of Milan. Since 1957, the town has hosted the annual Campaccio competition, a cross country running event which attracts world class athletes. On 10 December 2006, San Giorgio su Legnano hosted the 2006 European Cross Country Championships.

Stadio Giovanni Mari is a multi-use stadium in Legnano, Italy. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of A.C. Legnano. The stadium holds 5,000 people. It is also used for the horse race of Palio di Legnano.

Legnano (Italian pronunciation: [leɲˈɲaːno]; Lombard: Legnàn or Lignàn) is an Italian town and comune in the north-westernmost part of the Province of Milan, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from central Milan. With 60,259, it is the thirteenth-most populous township in Lombardy. Legnano is located in the Alto Milanese and is crossed by the Olona river.The history of Legnano and its municipal area has been traced back to the 1st millennium BC via archaeological evidence. Already in remote times, in fact, the hills that line the Olona proved to be habitable places. The town was established in 1261.Because of the historic victory of the Lombard League over Frederick Barbarossa at Legnano, it is the only town other than Rome named in the Italian national anthem ("[...] Dall'Alpi a Sicilia dovunque è Legnano [...]", en. "From the Alps to Sicily, Legnano is everywhere"). Every year the people of Legnano commemorate the battle with Palio di Legnano. In the institutional sphere, on 29 May, the date of the battle of Legnano, it was chosen as the regional holiday of Lombardy.

The Alto Milanese ("Upper Milanese" or "Northern Milanese") is a highly populated and industrialized area of Lombardy, comprising the northwestern part of the Metropolitan City of Milan, the southern part of the province of Varese and a few municipalities of the southeastern part of the province of Como. It has an area of 235 square kilometres and a population of some 700,000 people, making it one of the most densely populated areas of Italy. The Battle of Parabiago was fought in February 1339 near Parabiago, in Lombardy, northern Italy, between the Milanese army and the St. George's (San Giorgio) Mercenaries of Lodrisio Visconti. A renowned condottiero, the latter was an exiled member of the Visconti family then in power in Milan with a kind of triumvirate formed by Azzone and his uncles, Luchino and Archbishop Giovanni Visconti. Aiming to return victoriously to his city, he hired some 2,500 knights, mainly from Germany, and 1,000 Swiss infantry which had fought in the unsuccessful war of Mastino II della Scala for the hegemony in northern Italy. These units were led by Werner von Urslingen and Konrad von Landau.

The Church of Saint Edward is a Roman Catholic church in Busto Arsizio, Italy. Construction of the church began on 24 June 1938 and was consecrated by Cardinal Ildefonso Schuster on 12 October 1939. The church serves as the parish church for the neighbourhood of Sant’Edoardo.

Palazzo Leone da Perego is a historical building in Legnano. It was rebuilt in 1898 preserving some decorations of the previous medieval building of the same name. Located a few steps from the Basilica di San Magno, it has two entrances, one in via Magenta and the other in via Girardelli. It is named after Leone da Perego, archbishop of Milan who died in Legnano in 1257. Together with Palazzo Visconti it forms the "Corte Arcivescovile".

The Parco del Roccolo is a local park of interest to more than one municipality and it is located between the rivers Olona and Ticino in the northern part of the Po Valley, in a north-western area in the province of Milan, on the southern edge of the Altomilanese. The park includes wooded and agricultural areas in the municipalities of Arluno, Busto Garolfo, Canegrate, Casorezzo (where the park headquarters are located), Nerviano (since 1997) and Parabiago, with a surface of 1595 hectares (about 16 km²). The park takes its name from a technique once used in bird trapping, now considered illegal, the Roccolo: an oval clearing in which stood a three-storey tower camouflaged among the vegetation. It was established in 1991 for the safeguard of the natural elements of the area and for the enhancement of agriculture, which involves about 80% of the surface of the park, with the cultivation of corn, wheat, oats, barley, soybeans and fodder. Of the remaining land area, 9% is characterized by forests, while 1% by roads, quarries and the Villoresi canal with its network of secondary irrigation canals. Another characteristic of the park is the presence of numerous farmhouses scattered throughout its territory, witnesses to the historical agricultural past of the area. Recognized in 1994 as an agricultural park of supra-municipal interest by the Lombardy Region, it is currently being extended to the WWF Oasis of the Vanzago woods.
