La Bâtiaz Castle (French: Château de la Bâtiaz) is a castle in the municipality of Martigny, in the Canton of Valais, Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.The garderobes (toilets) at La Bâtiaz played a part in determining that the architect for the UNESCO listed castles in Wales came from Savoy before working in Wales. Historian and custodian A. J. Taylor travelled to La Bâtiaz and noticed that the castle and the one at Harlech shared one unique feature, the design of their toilets. The discovery enabled Taylor to confirm that James of Saint George had been the architect of both.

Martigny (French pronunciation: [maʁtiɲi]; German: Martinach, pronounced [ˈmaʁtiːnaːx]; Latin: Octodurum) is the capital city of the district of Martigny, canton of Valais, Switzerland. It lies at an elevation of 471 meters (1,545 ft), and its population is approximately 20,000 inhabitants (Martignerains or "Octoduriens"). It is a junction of roads joining Italy, France and Switzerland. One road links it over the Great St. Bernard Pass to Aosta (Italy), and the other over the col de la Forclaz to Chamonix (France). In winter, Martigny is known for its numerous nearby Alp ski resorts such as Verbier.

The district of Martigny is a district in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. It has a population of 48,906 (as of 31 December 2020).

The battle of Octodurus took place in the winter of 57–56 BC in the Gallic town of Octodurus in what is now Martigny, Valais, Switzerland. The battle resulted from a Roman attempt to open the Great St. Bernard Pass over the Alps. It was a Roman victory, but the ferocity of the fighting ended with the Roman legion moving back out of the Alps.

Martigny railway station (French: Gare de Martigny, German: Bahnhof Martigny) is a railway station in the municipality of Martigny, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is an intermediate stop on the standard gauge Simplon line of Swiss Federal Railways and the junction of the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) Martigny–Châtelard and standard gauge Martigny–Orsières lines of Transports de Martigny et Régions and RegionAlps, respectively.The station has five tracks. Three tracks are located on the Simplon line, served by a side platform and island platform. There is a bay platform on each end of the station, serving the Martigny–Châtelard and Martigny–Orsières lines.

The Drance (French: La Drance/Dranse, French pronunciation: [dʁɑ̃s]) is a river in Valais, Switzerland with a length of 14.5 kilometers (9.0 mi) to the confluence with the Rhône, a maximum length of 43 kilometers (27 mi). It has a drainage basin of 676 square kilometers (261 sq mi). The river is formed from the confluence of the Dranse d'Entremont and the Dranse de Bagnes at the village of Sembrancher. Further upriver the Dranse d'Entremont splits into the Dranse d'Entremont and the Dranse de Ferret.

Fondation Pierre Gianadda, inaugurated in 1978, administers museums and exhibitions located in Martigny, Switzerland. The permanent exhibitions include the Automobile Museum, Gallo-Roman Museum, Louis and Evelyn Franck Collection, Sculpture Park, and Chagall Court.

Martigny-Bourg railway station (French: Gare de Martigny-Bourg) is a railway station in the municipality of Martigny, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is located on the standard gauge Martigny–Orsières line of Transports de Martigny et Régions.

The Idiap Research Institute is a semi-private non-profit research institute at Martigny in the canton of Valais, in south-western Switzerland. It conducts research in the areas of speech processing, computer vision, information retrieval, biometric authentication, multimodal interaction and machine learning. The institute is affiliated with the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and with the Université de Genève.

Martigny-Croix railway station (French: Gare de Martigny-Croix) is a railway station in the municipality of Martigny, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is located on the standard gauge Martigny–Orsières line of Transports de Martigny et Régions.

Vernayaz MC railway station (French: Gare de Vernayaz MC) is a railway station in the municipality of Vernayaz, in the Swiss canton of Valais. It is located on the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) gauge Martigny–Châtelard line of Transports de Martigny et Régions. The depot for the line is located just south of the entrance to the station. Another station, Vernayaz on the standard gauge Simplon line of Swiss Federal Railways, is located roughly 1.1 kilometres (0.68 mi) to the north, across the Trient river. There is no local transport connection.
