Benning Road station

Woodlawn Cemetery is a historic cemetery in the Benning Ridge neighborhood of Washington, D.C., in the United States. The 22.5-acre (91,000 m2) cemetery contains approximately 36,000 burials, nearly all of them African Americans. The cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 20, 1996.

Clarence W. Blount (April 20, 1921 – April 12, 2003) was an American politician who was the first African American to be the majority leader of the Maryland State Senate. He represented the 41st district in Baltimore City from January 11, 1971 to January 8, 2003.

Payne's Cemetery was a 13-acre (53,000 m2) cemetery located in the Benning Ridge neighborhood of Washington, D.C., in the United States. It was founded in 1851 as a privately owned secular cemetery open to the public, but it primarily served the city's African American community. The cemetery was declared abandoned by the city in 1966. About 2,000 bodies at Payne's Cemetery were reinterred at National Harmony Memorial Park cemetery in Prince George's County, Maryland. Two public schools and a recreation center were constructed atop the cemetery in the late 1960s, during which time hundreds of corpses were unearthed and summarily disposed of.

Central Northeast, also sometimes called Mahaning Heights, is a small neighborhood located in Northeast Washington, D.C. with Fort Mahan Park at its center. It is bounded by Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue to the north, Benning Road to the south, the tracks of the Washington Metro and Minnesota Ave station to the west, and 44th Street NE to the east. It is home to the Friendship Collegiate Academy, a public charter high school. This neighborhood is part of Ward 7.

Benning Ridge is a residential neighborhood located in Southeast Washington, D.C. It is bounded by Fort Chaplin Park to the northwest, Southern Avenue to the south, Benning Road to the east, and Ridge Road SE to the west. Benning Ridge is an unusual neighborhood for its location east of the Anacostia River: although it is surrounded by working-class and low-income African American neighborhoods, Benning Ridge is rather affluent, with a diverse population of middle- and upper-middle-class white and black residents. As of 2015 the neighbourhood was one of the top ten most liberal neighbourhoods in Washington D.C..

The Capitol View Neighborhood Library is part of the District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) System. It was opened to the public on January 23, 1965, after 10 years of advocacy by the Capitol View community.

Benning Heights is a residential neighborhood located in northeast Washington, D.C. It is bounded by East Capitol Street to the south, Brooks Street NE to the north, 44th Street NE and Benning Road NE to the west, and Division Avenue NE to the east. It is served by the Benning Road Metro Rail station on the Blue Line and Silver Line of the Washington Metro (Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority/WMATA). Politically, Benning Heights is in Ward 7.

Lincoln Heights is a residential neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C. It is bounded by Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE to the north, Blaine Street NE to the south, Division Avenue NE to the east, and 49th Street NE to the west. The neighborhood is almost entirely composed of the Lincoln Heights Housing Project, a 325-unit public housing complex with low-rise apartment buildings and townhouses ranging from one bedroom to four bedrooms. The complex is run by the District of Columbia Housing Authority.

Benning Terrace is a public housing project of 274 apartments and townhouses in southeast Washington, D.C. located east of the Anacostia River in the Benning Ridge neighborhood. It is known to the natives as "Simple City."

East River Heights is a residential and mixed use neighborhood located in Ward 7 of Washington, DC. It is considered the "downtown" area of the ward and has high walkability ratings. Its borders are East Capital Street, Minnesota Ave, Benning Road up to 41st Street. It is a neighborhood of retired and working people and many children. There is quite a bit of development occurring. The houses are small but have large yards. It is centrally located. It is located between the Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road stations on the Washington Metro. The neighborhood is considered a strong up and coming neighborhood, especially for young professionals in the area. Providing homes with yards makes it attractive to those who are considering starting a family. While maintaining its cultural identity, the neighborhood is making space for promising changes. Uber has invested in the community, operating one of their Greenlight hubs in the East River Park shopping center.
