The State University of New York Upstate Medical University (SUNY Upstate) is a public medical school in Syracuse, New York. Founded in 1834, Upstate is the 15th oldest medical school in the United States and is the only medical school in Central New York. The university is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. SUNY Upstate is an upper-division transfer and doctoral university with degree-granting programs in the Norton College of Medicine (NCOM), College of Health Professions (CHP), College of Graduate Studies (CoGS) and the College of Nursing. As one of 140 academic medical centers in the United States, the Upstate University Health System serves over 1.8 million people annually. Its facilities include Upstate University Hospital, the region's only Level 1 trauma and burn center; Upstate Community Hospital; Golisano Children's Hospital; Upstate Brain & Spine Center; Upstate Heart and Vascular Center; Upstate Cancer Center; and other satellite sites in Central New York.Part of the SUNY system since 1950, Upstate is located in the heart of downtown Syracuse next to Syracuse University. Many of Upstate's faculty provide patient care, teach, and conduct research at the University Hospital. Upstate provides 10,959 jobs, making it Central New York's largest employer. The university adds more than $2.5 billion to the state economy annually. Nearly 7,900 SUNY Upstate alumni physicians are licensed in the United States and they generate more than $24.8 billion in economic activity and support or employ nearly 132,354 employees.

WRVD (90.3 FM) is a member-supported public radio station in Syracuse, New York. Owned by the State University of New York at Oswego, the station simulcasts the programming of WRVO in Oswego, New York.

The SUNY Eye Institute (SEI) is a consortium of scientists from five campuses within the State University of New York. Participating institutions include four SUNY medical schools (Downstate Medical Center, Upstate Medical University, Stony Brook University Medical Center, and the University at Buffalo) and the SUNY College of Optometry. The SEI was organized in 2007 and formally recognized by SUNY in 2009. Its aims are (1) to foster collaboration among SUNY research scientists in support of research on all aspects of visual function, with an emphasis on diseases of the human eye and their treatment, and (2) to enhance training in clinical and basic visual sciences in the U.S. State of New York. It receives financial support from SUNY through the SUNY REACH program.In October 2010 the SEI had 55 member scientists with primary faculty appointments. Scientific research largely overlaps with the mandate of the National Eye Institute (NEI), a part of the National Institutes of Health. The NEI provides the bulk of direct funding for research at the SEI through approximately 40 research grants to individual faculty scientists. The SEI convenes annually in early fall for a two-day scientific meeting. The meeting was held at the College of Optometry in Manhattan in 2009, at the Upstate campus in Syracuse, NY in 2010, at Stony Brook campus in 2011, and at Buffalo campus in 2012. The SEI sponsors pilot projects and hosts several lecture series that are broadcast between member campuses.

The Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) is an interdisciplinary research institution that informs and advances the policy, economic and wellness concerns of the America’s veterans and families. It is housed in the National Veterans Resource Center at Syracuse University. The IVMF annually serves thousands of U.S. veterans, service members, and their families around the world and as of 2019, the Institute had served 100,000 military service members, veterans, and their families through their programs.

Pioneer Homes, in Syracuse, New York, was one of the earliest government public housing projects in the United States. Pioneer Homes was completed in 1941 and remains fully occupied even as another nearby public housing project was demolished. The project consists of 607 apartments, which include both row houses and 3-story walk-ups, all constructed of masonry with brick exteriors in an early modern style. The project is bordered by East Adams Street, Renwick Avenue, Taylor Street, and South Townsend Street. After a rash of drive-by shootings, the Syracuse Common Council voted in 2005 to gate off four out of the five project entrances to reduce traffic and crime. The area is one of concentrated minority poverty, in which Syracuse led the United States as of 2013. That is partially blamed on Interstate 81, which runs through downtown Syracuse and is thought to contribute to segregation. Plans to replace or remove the aging span of I-81, a major concern of the Pioneer Homes Tenant Association, are ongoing, with plans due to be released in early 2019.

The Hotel Skyler, whose full official name is Hotel Skyler Syracuse, Tapestry Collection by Hilton is a hotel in the Syracuse University area of Syracuse, New York, located in a former synagogue at 601 S. Crouse Avenue, down the hill from the Crouse-Irving Hospital.

Marshall Street, or "M" Street, is a street in the University Hill neighborhood in Syracuse, New York, adjacent to Syracuse University. Marshall Street often refer to the commercial area including and surrounding the 100 Block of Marshall Street. This area primarily functions as an off-campus commercial area for college students.

University Hill is a neighborhood and business district in Syracuse, New York, located east and southeast of Downtown Syracuse, on one of the larger hills in Syracuse. The neighborhood is bounded on the west by Almond Street and Interstate 81. It continues east to Ostrom Avenue and Thornden Park, where it borders the Westcott and University neighborhoods. Interstate 690 currently serves as the neighborhood's northern boundary.University Hill is the major educational and medical district of Syracuse, as well as an important business district, with three of the top ten employers in the Syracuse region located there. The most expansive of these is Syracuse University, from which the neighborhood's name derives. "The Hill" is also to home a Veterans Administration Medical Center, the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, as well as Crouse Hospital and the Richard H. Hutchings Psychiatric Center. These five institutions account for over 16,000 full-time positions and over 20,000 students.

Crouse College, also known as Crouse Memorial College and historically as John Crouse Memorial College for Women, is a building on the Syracuse University campus. It was funded by John R. Crouse, a wealthy Syracuse merchant (principal donation) with the White family (bankers, secondary doners), and designed by Archimedes Russell. It is built in the Romanesque revival—Richardsonian Romanesque style.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. It is also one of the historical Comstock Tract buildings on the Syracuse campus. It currently houses Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts. Chiefly, its classrooms and auditorium are at the service of the Setnor School of Music.

The Syracuse University School of Education is the education school of Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. Founded in 1906, the school is dedicated to training highly skilled and knowledgeable practitioners, teachers, administrators, counselors, and scholars. The school offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs, as well as Certificates of Advanced Study, in elementary education, higher education, special education, school counseling, and educational leadership.

Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC) is a nonprofit and nonpartisan data gathering, data research, and data distribution organization in the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.TRAC collects big data from the federal agencies and maintains a databases of federal enforcement, staffing and financial data. TRAC also focuses on using the Freedom of Information Act to request such data. The FOIA Project is an initiative of TRAC that monitors federal agency FOIA decisions and practices.Over the years, TRAC has been cited in hundreds of news articles.

Setnor School of Music, officially The Rose, Jules R., and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music, is one of seven academic units of the College of Visual and Performing Arts of Syracuse University. It is housed primarily in the historical Crouse College building.
