Ashington Town Hall

Ashington railway station was a station on the Newbiggin-by-the-Sea branch of the Blyth and Tyne Railway network which served the town of Ashington in Northumberland, North East England. The station was closed by British Railways in 1964, but it has been the subject of a reopening campaign since at least the 1990s.

Portland Park was a football ground in Ashington, England. It was the home ground of Ashington A.F.C. between 1909 and 2008. It also hosted greyhound racing from 1936 until 1993.

Many inhabitants have a distinctive accent and dialect known as Pitmatic. This varies from the regional dialect known as Geordie. Some of the known phrases can be concluded to: "Way Aye", "Hway/Hawere" and "Ner Nat".

Wansbeck was a local government district in south-east Northumberland, England. Its main population centres were Ashington, Bedlington and Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. The area which was bounded by the district is mostly urban, on the North Sea coast north of the Tyneside conurbation. It bordered Blyth Valley district to the south, the border being the River Blyth. It was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by the merger of the urban districts of Ashington, Bedlingtonshire and Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. It is named after the River Wansbeck. The district council was abolished as part of the 2009 structural changes to local government in England effective from 1 April 2009 with responsibilities being transferred to Northumberland County Council, a unitary authority.

Northumberland College is a further education college based in Ashington, Northumberland, England. The present site opened in 1957, and became the County Technical College in 1961, transformed again in 1987, becoming the Northumberland College of Arts and Technology, and finally settled upon its current status in 1995.It has a main campus in Ashington in the south east of the County and additional centres at Kirkley Hall, Hexham and Berwick. The college offers outreach courses from a number of smaller community venues and employability courses in community venues. Northumberland College provides further education courses to school leavers and adult learners in a wide range of subjects, including Access and Education; Art, Design and Interactive Media; Business and Administration; Construction; Early Years; Engineering; Functional Skills; Foundation Learning; Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy; Health and Social Care; Hospitality and Catering; Information Technology; Land Based Industries; Renewable Energies; Sport and Leisure and Travel and Tourism. A recent development is a new course in Music Production. Higher Education courses are also available. There are Foundation Degrees in Horticulture, Agriculture, Arboriculture, Environmental Conservation, Animal Management, Equine Studies and Children's Workforce Practice as well as Higher National Diplomas in Travel and Tourism, Hospitality, Engineering, Textile Studies, Photography and IT. A wide range of apprenticeships are available in Business Administration, IT, Engineering, Construction, Horticulture, Hospitality, Health and Social Care and Early Years. Northumberland College merged with Sunderland College and Hartlepool Sixth Form in 2019 to create Education Partnership North East. Gary Potts is the current principal.

Ashington Association Football Club is a football club based in Ashington, Northumberland, England. They are currently members of the Northern Premier League Division One East and play at Woodhorn Lane. Formed in 1883, the club have played in a number of local and regional leagues, including the Northern Alliance, the East Northumberland League, the North Eastern League, the Midland League, Wearside League and the North Regional League. They were a founding member of the Football League Third Division North in 1921 and are the northernmost team to have played in the Football League. The club were later founder members of the Northern Premier League in 1968 and have been in the Northern League since 1970.

Stakeford is a large village in south east Northumberland, England. Its about 17 miles (27 km) north of Newcastle upon Tyne. It lies south of the River Wansbeck from Ashington, the nearest town. The village takes its name from the former river crossing to the north of the village, this was a crossing through the mudflats which was marked with stakes to give an idea of the water depth, hence the name Stakeford. The river crossing has long gone, but remains of the stakes can be seen in the river bed becoming visible whenever the dam downstream is opened. The old river crossing was replaced by a bridge in the early 20th century, which in itself was replaced by the new Stakeford Bridge in 1994. There is now no trace of the original ford due to the mudflats being used as a landfill site in the 1950s and 60s and the creation of a riverside country park in the 1970s. It is a mainly residential village. There are three pubs and a Social Club. There is also a miners' institute although it never had a mine as this was located in the adjacent village of Bomarsund. Stakeford has several shops and a primary school. Today Stakeford forms one built-up area, with neighbouring Guide Post and Sheepwash.

Woodhorn, part of Museums Northumberland and formerly known as Woodhorn Colliery Museum, is located in Ashington, Northumberland, England. The museum depicts the lives of coal mine workers and features original buildings and equipment from the former colliery, including the two headframes, a winding house, other engine houses, a steam winding engine, stables, a building with ventilation equipment, a blacksmith and joiners shop, and the office. Several buildings contain original equipment and mining exhibits, while others have been converted to museum exhibit areas or wedding, conference and event facilities.In addition to exhibits about the mine and the life of a miner, the museum features a permanent collection of art created by the Ashington Group. There are also changing exhibits of history, art and science.
