The store was founded in 1975 as a feminist bookstore and was named after Virginia Woolf's 1929 essay of the same name. A Room of One's Own carries a broad selection of books, with a focus on works by women and non-binary people and the LGBT community.

St. Bernard Catholic Church, in Madison, Wisconsin, United States, is a parish church in the Diocese of Madison. The parish was founded in 1907 and the church building was completed in 1927. In 2023, Bishop Donald J. Hying petitioned the Holy See to designate the church building as the diocesan cathedral. Pope Francis erected St. Bernard's as the new cathedral the same year. The official decree has yet to be issued by the Holy See.

The Elmside Park Mounds are a group of Native American mounds in Elmside Park in Madison, Wisconsin. The group includes two animal-shaped effigy mounds; while their shapes are inconclusive, they have been described as a lynx and a bear. The mounds were once part of the Oakridge Mound Group, which included three other mounds, but the others were destroyed by home construction. Mound Builder peoples built the mounds in the Late Woodland period, likely between 800 and 1100 A.D., to serve as burial and ceremonial sites. The mounds may be the only remnant of a Late Woodland community on the northeast shore of Lake Monona and are archaeologically significant in the study of Late Woodland civilizations.The mounds were added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 10, 1991.

Olbrich Botanical Gardens is a 16 acre outdoor botanical garden and 10,000-square-foot conservatory in Madison, Wisconsin. Founded in 1952 and named for its founder, Michael Olbrich, the gardens are owned and operated jointly by the City of Madison Parks and the non-profit Olbrich Botanical Society. Noteworthy additions to the gardens were the Bolz Conservatory in 1991, and a Thai sala, a gift to the University of Wisconsin–Madison from the Thai Chapter of the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the government of Thailand through its king, Bhumibol Adulyadej. Opened in 2002, it is one of only six sala outside of Thailand and one of two in the United States (the other is located in Hawaii).

Madison East High School is one of four comprehensive four-year high schools in Madison, Wisconsin. It was established in 1922, making it the oldest public high school still operating in Madison. The school mascot is "Peppy Purgolder", an animal resembling a feline. Madison East athletes compete in the WIAA Big Eight Conference. Its girls' swim team won the WIAA Division 1 state championship in 2007.

Garver Feed Mill is a historic building complex located in Madison, Wisconsin, adjacent to Olbrich Botanical Gardens. The building was added to the Wisconsin State Register of Historic Places on May 19, 2017, and to the National Register of Historic Places (listed as "Garver's Supply Company Factory and Office") on August 7, 2017.The structure was built in 1905 for the U.S. Sugar Company, serving as a sugar beet processing plant from 1906 to 1924. The site was purchased in 1930 by James R. Garver, remodeled and became the main facility for Garver's Supply Company. As of December 2017, the building and grounds are undergoing restoration to open the site to the public as a venue for local food producers and restaurants and as an event space. The restoration work on the main building is expected to be completed in Spring 2019, after which small lodging structures will be installed to the north of the building. Officials with the city of Madison are hoping that Garver Feed Mill will become a location for second-stage food producers and will serve as an anchor for a "food innovation corridor" in the city.

On the afternoon of July 22, 2026, a man armed with a knife, who injured a police officer during a struggle, was fatally shot by a police officer in Madison, Wisconsin. The shooting happened at the corner of Williamson and Baldwin Streets. The shot man was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries. The Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation will investigate the incident. All four officers involved were placed on administrative leave.

The Willy Street Cooperative (locally known as the Willy Street Co-op) is a food cooperative located in Madison, Wisconsin that specializes in natural, organic and locally produced foods. The co-op offers products from over 180 local farmers and vendors. The cooperative is owned by over 31,000 equity-owning members.The co-op is an economically and environmentally sustainable, cooperatively owned grocery business that serves the needs of its owners and employees. WSGC supports local and organic suppliers throughout south-central Wisconsin. It operates according to seven basic principles, sometimes known as the Rochdale Principles. The cooperative has assisted struggling cooperatives such as the Yahara River Grocery Cooperative in Stoughton.

The Bascom B. Clarke House in Madison, Wisconsin was built in 1899, designed in Queen Anne style with Gothic Revival details for Clarke, who founded the magazine American Thresherman. In 1980 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
